  1. Did your wife enjoy the way that you were viewing her?
  2. We all ride for our own reasons... Some ride to stay healthy, some to be competitive and beat others, some to be competitve with themselves to beat their own times, some for the social aspect, some even ride to get away from their partners or the stress of home or work. Whatever your reasons are...DONT STOP just because the time you got in the Argus was not what you hoped for. There is always next year. Personally, I always hope to achieve the best possible time I can do in the Argus but with the mass bunches and crowding all the way to Smits. I have come to realise that my Argus is probably a bit slower than what it could be had there been more space on the road, less riders, bigger start group intervals e.t.c. As a person with many an Argus finish under the belt (read lycra), I enjoy riding my bike with like minded people and WILL certainly take every opportunity to ride the Argus for as many years to come as I can
  3. What an awesome read....well done for helping another ... PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN
  4. Well done !!!!!!!
  5. Looking at the results, I have learnt that age is not a factor for completing the Argus even if you are 90+ years old....what an amazing achievement by all those more mature people... WELL DONE With the popularity of the Argus and the number of people that do it over and over and over and over again, they will soon (ok 13 years time) have to bring out the 50+ club for those that have done 50 or more finishes
  6. Your interpretation is correct. Basically it gives those that are loyal Argus finishers a preferential start compared to the PPA / Open groups even if they didnt qualify for better seedings to be higher up the seeding levels. naturally if one qualified for a better seeding then that would be allocated to you first before the "loyalty" groups
  7. There will always be times when people get a good seeding against the previous years events and then landed up high up the alphabet soup when they didnt train to be there for the current ride......however.....one cannot implement a seeding system to cater for every single eventuality. I do think though, that with the PPA/Argus seedings penalising any events over 6 months does require some extra thought but that is for another topic !!
  8. Start: Only gripe I had was that my start card was not punched at the initial check which I only found out needed to be done when I tried to enter my start chute. The portable urinals were a great idea for the start !!! Timing: My Cateye time was within a 10th of a second compared to the Racetec timing...perhaps the problem lies with the OP's equipment Last years timing was also almost spot on Group release: Since I start lower down the order, I cannot comment about the start times of the earlier groups. What I did notice is that bunches from my group [R] pretty much stayed together all the way until just past Simonstown when the wind effected separations between bunches. I do however think that 1 minute time gaps for start groups isnt the most ideal especially for the more hard core riders. Having now completed my 19th Argus, I can certainly say that the event and its organisers get a 99.99 out of 100 for their efforts and I will certainly be back next year. Well done to the Cycle Tour team, the PPA, city of Cape Town, the sponsors, the marshals, the supporters and everone else involved in this event   the seeding of riders still however comes into question when some riders land up in the upper to mid level alphabet soup seedings with clearly no visible means of getting such good seedings...especialy when looking at their previous 12 months results for other rides on Racetec

    Argus - 2 laps

Come on all you peeps who did 2 laps, - let us know what your start group was - what time you finished your first lap in - what group you started your second lap in - what time you finished your second lap in Kudos to all of you that managed this especially with the wind and it goes without saying that this includes FRAIL since he probably did a lap before the start anyways HAHA...cause he is a MACHINE !!!

    Argus 2014

The results will probably be out on racetec by late Monday or Tuesday morning....finalisation thereof with queries will probably only be done by next week. Argus will have printed results on Thursday according to what the Argus editor said when interviewed although the posters along the route state Friday.....all very confusing from the Argus side.

Riding on someone elses number will get the person banned. For medical reasons and personal details, it should be obvious why this policy is so important and strictly enforced.

    Updated weather report

    Argus 2014

Official weather report from the South African weather service http://www.weathersa...tour_2014_1.pdf I would think that their "predictions" would be a little more accurate than sites such as windguru e.t.c. Also check out this thread http://www.thehubsa....s-2014-weather/
  16. Seems that Zakkie is an attention seeking person that doesnt truly understand the ramifications of the incident and how something like this will affect peoples attitudes towards cyclists for a long time to come. While this is certainly not a personal attack on Zakkie, if he/she does indeed have any information to add, then let him take that information to the police, PPA, Cycle Tour management e.t.c. where the information can be verified and acted upon. Failing which, lets not give this person any more attention than what he/she has already gotten The little game that he/she is playing doesnt help the situation out there and here on the hub at all where the cycling community is already in an uproar about the "incident" the other thing is.....how on earth can the driver of the van control what the people in the back of the van are doing. It is not his job to manage the team of "cleaners" but merely to transport them around. From what I have read, he is but a youngster himself trying to do a civic duty that many of us wouldnt do ourselves....I mention this since if indeed cyclists were pelted with water bombs, then why take it out on the driver ????????
  17. With the predicted winds, I wouldnt worry about slicks, I would try find a way to fit a motor
  18. From the official South African Weather office - Weather forecast for the Pick n Pay Cape Argus Momentum Cycle Tour for Sunday 09 March 2014 http://www.weathersa...tour_2014_1.pdf :( :( :( :( Looks like any personal bests are out the window....a reasonable finish will be the order of the day by the looks of it
  19. Hmmm, was looking good but good it is no more
  20. Looking better Of course closer to Sunday will be more accurate
  21. As per windguru
  22. Rode in K and was expecting to do between 3:30 and 3:45. Up until about 60km, it certainly looked that way, but with the heat that just wasnt to be with several stops at the water points. Great route if not for the extreme weather, and well marshalled. The finish being so far from the mats and coke was a bit of a let-down as was the long trek to the parking before the race. Otherwise great event edit: grammer

Did this little exercise some time back....
  24. Don't the Blue Bulls wear pink lycra ?
  25. Thanks for the feedback on the map. I do notice that the op refers to a 101km ride whereas the brochure refers to 108km....anyways this looks to be a fast one.
