  1. RIP to our lost cyclist and condolences to his family I think the solution here is to grade the various trails on their difficulty / danger level. This has been the norm on many MTB trails and if I remember correctly from the TBMBC maps, that these trails are indeed graded. BLACK - extremely difficult RED - difficult BLUE - moderate difficulty GREEN - easy to moderate difficulty YELLOW - easy The problem is that these difficulty or danger level gradings are not well signposted at the bottom of each trail, and/or not very well known to the more recreational MTB'er. They are also normally associated with single track and not trails themselves. Lets remember one thing, we were all noobs once and its never a pleasant sight seeing an injured/bleeding cyclist on the side of the trails because of a fall. PS. Lets also as MTB'ers realise our skill levels and rather not take the trails that are beyond what we or our machines are capable of !
  2. If and when this case goes to court, us hubbers demand that it is streamed to thehub This is almost as good as the who shot JR mystery back in the 80's
  3. Just dont get the Cape Epic people to do it
  4. Let clear something here... Grey import is basically a parallel import of the same goods available locally just at a cheaper price. These are not supported by the local distributor........HiFi Corporation sold grey imports for many many years....It is also my understanding that grey imports although not supported locally are NOT illegal. Counterfeight goods on the other hand are illegal and the law needs to take its course in dealing with these products. In this case the Chinarello is indeed a counterfeight and not a grey product as has been confirmed by the local distributor as such. The OP therefore has legal recourse against the shop amongst other things.
  5. I think that a very good point that will further assist the direction in which the op may take...and that is what the invoice says. If the invoice states that the bicycle purchased is a Dogma lookalike or something to that effect then by all means the op got what he bargained for. If it on the other hand states Pinarello Dogma with the matching component specs of what a normal stock standard Dogma has then I would be first in line to support the op in taking further action, be it legal, be it standing outside the shop with a banner that says they sell Chinese copies/counterfeight goods e.t.c. Whether the Chinarello is good in itself is not the question but rather the expectation that the op had when purchasing what he thought would be the genuine article. I would certainly take further steps if I were in a similar position ranging from: - reporting the matter to the police and opening a fraud docket - writing a letter to SARS highlighting my experience at said shop with regards to counterfeight goods - writing emails to the various cycling bodies in the area ranging from the cycle clubs to the PPA equivelant to assist them in letting their member know that said store sells counterfeight goods - Taking the matter up with the Consumer Council for the said shop being in breach of CPA policies and rules for not providing a refund in the CPA mandated time frame. - Finally, I would take the matter further by getting lawyers involved. (I am sure that there are many lawyers who are members of the hub that would be only too willing to put on a letterhead the consequences of this proceeding to court and sending this on the the cycle shop)

  7. Depends if the bike is a 26" or 29"
  8. Thanks for that answer. Are there tech zones at each water point ?
  9. Strange question for those that have done the EPIC... The pro's have spares and the like at the waterpoints/tech zones that they may use on their bikes if the need arises. These range from wheels, brake pads to even a seat post with saddle as seen in one of the DSTV highlights programs where the ladies were looking for a spare rear shock. What do the average joe's do if they need these sort of spares? Is it tickets for them if they cant get hold of this type of stuff or is there some sort of mini tech shop at the waterpoints that they may call on to purchase stuff ? On that note, the pro's who enter the Epic are sponsored, whereas the average joe has to pay his own way for an entrance to the event.....surely its just as important that the average joe gets the opportunity to finish the race and not have to pull out do to these sort of mechanicals.
  10. Nope ! I am saying that in post production they have way more opportunity to include streamed content into an delayed broadcast EXTENDED highlights package than they would if they were dealing with live broadcasts.
  11. There is a big difference between incorporating streamed content into a live broadcast and using it in a post production facility where it can be converted into the necessary format for a post production highlights package.
  12. I think the point is being missed. If coverage can be streamed to the web then it certainly can be incorporated into a highlights package....the material is there....they just arent using it for the highlights package !!
  13. That being said, these guys know the route, they need to plan better to not be in the wrong place at the wrong time so as not to get caught in bottlenecks....perhaps if Evans and his partner rode a bit faster earlier on, they would have headed that long line of riders going up the singletrack instead of being stuck behind them. I do however believe that a 60 minute penalty is a bit harsh. In the position these riders face themselves where mere minutes could separate the leaders from those behind, especially in the pro elite categories, a 30 minute penalty could have been harsh enough but still kept the team penalised with enough of a chance to actually make up the time and kept the race interesting.
  14. I agree, the tv coverage or rather what is broadcast to us on DSTV is definitely where some serious improvements can be made. They advertise the event as being the biggest televised MTB race in the world yet we get 30 minutes of coverage of which about 10 minutes covers a recap of the previous days' stage. Those motorbikes, choppers, stationery camera people e.t.c. are certainly out there for many hours of the day. The material is probably there in the form of recordings yet it is not broadcast to us South Africans. Do other countries (perhaps Europe) get a more comprehensive coverage ??? If they can stream coverage to the web, then surely they can provide the South African viewers with a more comprehensive highlights package. The sponsors surely deserve better !!!
  15. True, but then again, he might have started the stage with it in and was only reseating a tyre that was problematic
  16. While watching the highlights on DSTV, I noticed that one of the riders was dealing with a tyre/puncture issue. It appeared as though he had one of those foam rubber perma tubes in his tyre. It was blue-ish in colour and certainly had the appearance of a shaped foam type item. Am I mistaken or does one get light blue coloured MTB tubes ? With a full suspension bike where the suspension/rebound can be adjusted to take into account the tyre hardness (read tyre pressure when using air).....can one in fact ride with a permatube ?
  17. What is that thing under Sausers waterbottle ?? ...and I like the GOPRO facing backwards LOL

    Argus 2014

Did a 3:38 in 2013 and was seeded in R this year. The funrides that I did in January and February helped get me into that group. I cant see you getting much better than U next year with only this years Argus result on record especially with the seeding penalty for results older than 6 months.
  22. Haha, perhaps I am one of those die-hard roadies Then again, my MTB of choice is still the 26'er
  23. Anyone know where one can get 700 20c road tyres (pref Conti's) in the Western Cape. I used to purchase these from CWC in Bellville before they moved to their Willowbridge premises
  24. To the mountain biker who unfortunately lost his life....may your soul Ride your eternal route in Peace. May your family be comforted in this unfortunate time and may your wife be strong for the child to be. May the 2 cyclists recovering from the accident make a full and speedy recovery. Thoughts and prayers to you all.
  25. They do say that any landing that you walk away from is a good landing...especially after you got a bit of air
