  1. Yes, you're right (lol) - last Sunday at around 6 or 7pm I swore I'd never do another IronMan & now I'm thinking I might just do this one... How quickly you forget the pain & just remember the good feelings of competing & finishing. I believe the Challenge organisation is second only to Kona so I'm sure they'll have all their ducks in a row when it comes to road closure support & the general vibe etc & I'm glad that Paul Woolf's IM has some competition at last - hopefully he'll think twice about using those idiotic race referees next time as well! Anyway I think Challenge Cape Town will be at least as tough as Gordons Bay in 2001 but well worth doing.
  2. Hopefully no more Dickens' quotes from organisation run by Walt Disney characters. IMHO CSA needs a healthy dose of professionalism for the organisation of such an event - in fact, as has been suggested, they should outsource it to experienced outfits that know what they're doing - the IronMan organisers wouldn't be a bad place to start as their events have always run like clockwork & on time without fail. Also this is apparently one of the guilty motorists from yesterday's shambles: My link
  3. By the sounds of things I'm so glad I didn't do this race & yes, what is the story with people stretching their arms out to the side with their bottles before they take a slurp? The last time someone did this next to me I said "no thanks" - thought he was offering me a drink.
  4. Hell no, not yet anyway - just 100/120km rides or so would suit me for the next week or so. Are you interested?
  5. Anyone who's training for Iron Man keen in meeting up for rides on weekends or during the week from Randburg - maybe leave from Lifestyle? Or are there any existing IM training groups in the area that anyone knows about?
  6. Yip, I also got it in the post - I believe Cycle Lab members get it gratis...
  7. Ya I know it's a tall order - luckily I can work flexi hours, lol!
  8. Anyone interested in doing long slow rides (3 - 4hrs, ironman training) from the Randburg area during the week. To leave after the peak traffic, ie around 8h30 - 9h00, from Lifestyle? Anyone interested?
  9. Give me a boerie roll any day! Unless I get a 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the race (which will be never) then I'll gladly accept a proper medal!
  10. Did a 2h50 from I group last year - This year starting in G so hopefully can crack a sub 2h50!
  11. This year: G group @ 6h54 Last year: I group ...so a bit of improvement but at this rate I'll be about 90 when I finally get to A Auris2008-10-20 04:16:23
  12. Yes I do remember that big crash - must've been in '84 I think - I was fortunate never to have a biggie at EL but have a look at this pic to see what was left of my 1100R. Incidentally Pocketbikes, I had the scrap rebuilt & even raced it at Donnington a few months later - see pic below. By the way I've signed the petition to save the circuit - lets hope it has some impact - I also raced at the last race ever at the old Roy Hesketh circuit in PMB in 1981 (where I came second to the late great Keith Petersen) in the 750 race - apparently the circuit has been reopened almost in its original design except for the sweep/angels which I believe was been altered slightly Incidentally idrive, what & when did you race? 13. That's right idrive - I remember my father taking me to a GP there in the early 60's (I was only a nipper then) where Jim Clark, Graham Hill et al were racing. Here's a pic taken from the pit area in 1982 - they look a bit run down but they did the job & everything about racing in EL at the GP circuit was great!
  14. As someone who used to race motorcycles there (as part of the national mcycle championship) in the 1980's I feel it would really be sad to see it go. Whenever I'm down there I always take a nostalgic drive around the circuit - it's actually in better nick now than it was then - Potters Pass has been smoothed out & has extra run off area etc which helps when you're doing 200 & plenty on an old 1100 Honda that's doing its best to chuck you off. Anyway it used to be the most exciting track to ride at in the '80's so it would definitely be a shame to see it go.
  15. For 4 months of triathlon training a year... definitely worth it! don't forget, if it looks the part it must be worth at least 1kph or 2kph extra as well!!
