  1. I heard from the shop that it was a brand new bike being prepared for a customer - think it looks like this....
  2. Initially I was super impressed with the Schwalbe Little Alberts grip, cornering and rolling resistance but after the third puncture in two weeks yesterday I'm starting to lose it. Each time it's been a knobbly that's been torn off and the sealant struggles to do it's job. I'm running them at 2.2 bar and it just seems like every time I ride a rocky downhill these tyres fall apart. Any suggestions for a good 29'er tyre that needs to get me through the Epic without self-destructing.......
  3. Thanks - will do
  4. I've had very good service for Cyclesure in the past but I'm tempted to go with Miway because of their support for the sport. What do you guys think?
  5. Thank you all for your pearls of wisdom - I now assume that one shouldn't use a 10-in-1 lubricant on the pads but should rather refer this tender matter to the genius/generous hubber community. Thanks for the effort - I think I'll let my LBS solve the problem - I can't get no satisfaction here................
  6. I'm sure I've seen a thread like this before but I can't find it. I've got XT discs which when I apply brakes on a fast downhill they scream and squeal at a zillion decibels - which I am sure the locals enjoy at 4am. Any idea what could be wrong? The pads are brand new.
  7. Anybody want to see how good they are - come ride with a few of us tonight at 18h00 from the Pizza Del Forno at Featherbrooke Village. Two of us will be carrying the magiclight - believe me, these lights are awesome!
  8. There are a tremendous amount of people calling the 29" a fad that will ultimately go out of fashion. My recommendation is give the big hoops the benefit of the doubt and take them for a ride - but be warned - you might just be convinced that it's time for a new bike. Feel free to disagree - after you've given the 29er a try.
  9. I read an article somewhere on the net that the current men and women USA champions both ride 29'ers and both are part of the Team Subaru Gary Fisher. I'm currently riding a borrowed Ventana El Kapitan 29'er and am hugely impressed - now I cant wait for my HiFi Pro to arrive in the mail..........
  10. We were there yesterday - only the Merida and Cannondale guys - The trails were fine - yes, there was a bit of water but nothing more than could be handled easily. Thanks to the Merida guys - we rode a couple of the bikes on offer - made the trip worth it.
  11. I'll take the music over Arnie's clueless commentary any time. Gerald de Kock is not bad tho - and he's an experienced MTB'er. I love the MiWay show - means I dont have to watch Supercycling.........
  12. Anybody know why the 94.7 results are not appearing on Racetec's website - no problems yesterday but this morning there's nothing.........or am I doing something wrong??
  13. I saw the guys from Specialized, Eddy Merckx, saw a Volcan or two - a couple of Trek's, hardly any MTB's. Honestly - it's not a bad expo despite being very small. The queues are currently very long but they move quickly. Nice vibe, pretty girls, prettier bikes, I give it 5/10. Thank goodness I work across the road - the Sandton City parking lot looks like mayhem - use the Alice Lane entrance to Sandton City- lots of parking on the western side.
  14. My LBS used to be there every year until the costs became rediculous - he said he would have to turn over his entire stock in his shop just to pay for the priviledge of being at the expo - binned that idea and now makes 10 times more money servicing bikes at the Epic (actually I have no idea how much he makes at the Epic)
  15. Hey SPTLSB1, relax bru - not all of us that ride to VG know of the fee - I would have been surprised - dont know where your attitude comes from but it has this rather unpleasant dog dung smell. I don't but any of the cycling mags anymore - complete waste of good money. Borriz - thanks for the heads-up, appreciate it.
  16. http://www.magiclight.co.za/magiclight Just bought a set of these - took them out early this morning - 900 Lumens at full power - all for R1,450 delivered the day after I paid. Absolute bargain at the price. If you're looking for a top class light at a good price this is the one, no doubt!! (5-Star rating)
  17. I never suggested going back to Logwood - I agree that it cannot host it anymore - but it was fun while it lasted. My question is a concern over rumours of a very technical course at Rietvlei and it's suitability for novice MTB'ers.
  18. will be number 12 for me. Going to enjoy the tandem this year.......
  19. To you guys that have ridden the Rietvlei route.....It'll be my 9th 24-Hour so I really cant wait - Logwood was still the best 24-Hour venue and route. In 2004 Noah's flood struck us - the wooden bridge over the wall was a challenge but I really remember Terry Spinman sliding down the dropoff without his bike - he let it find it's own way down - this at 2am - man we were laughing like we were drunk - good memories from all the 24 Hours. Dimitri and his gang put on a great show every year. HOWEVER - I've heard some concern about the technicality of the course - we're thinking of entering a ladies team - clueless from a MTB perspective but reasonably OK as roadies - will they cope? I want to encourage enthusiasm for MTB'ing - not scare them off.
  20. Hello Trackz - long time - I see Spinman is very quiet these days.....I run 2.5-2.8 depending on the environment I'm riding in - I weigh a paltry 80kg's - but now that my 29'er is on order I'm keen to know what pressures one would use on the bigger hoops.
  21. Wifey and I had an easy ride on the tandem at Saturday's Satellite Challenge. After crossing Harties we turned left and just ahead was a guy just finishing fixing a puncture. Right in front of us he takes the old tube and flings it into the bush. Well done china - I hope you heard my wife's remark - she can be a real b!tch when she gets pissed off.
  22. Heard a rumour that the Gary Fisher 2010 29'ers are going to be really agressively priced - bring on 2010!!!!
  23. But even Burry rides a ST!!!! Good quality ST is the way to go - check out the bikes on the front-end of the Epic - S-Works, Scalpel, Merida ST's, even Kevin and David rode Raleigh soft tails. Once you've decided to go soft tail your next Q should be 26" or 29"?????
  24. It is exactly why I asked the LBS to send the frame to Cycleart - the Hub raves about their work - which made it worse when I saw the result.... The bike is a steel framed Daccordi (circa 198?) - I've posted original pics on the Hub a while back. I did not get a quote (my own fault) but paid willingly because I took full responsibility - my own fault. I'm not complaining about the cost - seriously - if the job had been up to the standard that other hubbers had raved about I would have willingly paid more than the R1,700 I was charged..........but it's not... up to scratch - urgh! bad pun, sorry
  25. No idea - When they deliver the frame back to the LBS I would assume that it's ready to be handled in the rebuilding process - It wasn't a complex paint job - plain old Fire-Engine red with white decals....
