  1. At the beginning of this year - after seeing the awesome respray's by CycleArt on The Hub I asked my LBS on the West Rand to get them to respray my steel frame Daccordi. After charging me A LOT more than I expected (equivalent to the value of the bike!!) - I went to collect my machine. The paint job was shocking to say the least. There are fingerprint marks embedded in the paint (could only have happened when the paint was wet - but they're blaming Eben's guys at the LBS, the paint was touched up after the job with a different shade of red (at the downtube shifters) and they delivered the frame with paint chipped off the frame. I'm really sorry I asked them to touch my classic - If anything goes wrong they blame the LBS - crap in my opinion. It's now been 4 months and they haven't even had the decency to go and witness my complaint at Eben's shop. In your opinion do I make a scene or do I accept this and walk away after having paid them their exhorbitant fee??
  2. The team concept might be getting a little long in the tooth. Team or individual I'll be there!!
  3. Really cool to hear a good story for a change
  4. I'm considering replacing the DT Swiss 1540's on my S-Works. If you had to buy a new set of MTB wheels what would you buy? Oh, and I have no interest in Ksyeriums (getting stuck on my roadie stuff again), YES I mean't Crossmarks ....... Cactus2009-02-11 01:13:06
  5. As a Gautenger it was great to ride Jonkershoek with Christof Sauser and Co in preparation for Epic '08 . Oakpics were there with cameras going beserk......................still waiting for the promised disc with the pics
  6. Reminder - this is happening tonight. (Extended BUMP)
  7. West Rand: Roodekrans If it's NOT raining (I'm optimistic as it's bucketing outside as I write this) I'm leaving the Caltex garage on the corner of CR Swart and Ouklip Streets, Roodekrans, Roodepoort ON MY MTB at 18h30 tomorrow night. The offroad ride is along Robert Broome, down past the Sterkfontein psychiatric hospital and back again. Barring any mishaps we should be done by 20h00. The distance is about 30k's. NB!! LIGHTS are critical - it could be interesting to watch a descent down Sterkies singletrack at speed in the dark without them. Please RSVP with a PM so that I know there'll be somebody waiting for me. PS!! if it rains stay at home - I'm still drying off from Sabie X.....

  9. Absolutely agreed!!!
  10. Awesome bike for a GREAT price!! - I was looking at the new bike guide in the latest BICYCLING and crapped myself at the new list prices. I think you've built yourself a bargain!!!!! Well done. Mampara, Thanks for the link - I've just added it to my Favourites.
  11. May I be very presumptious and ask what it cost you?
  12. From a pricing perspective it seems to me that R1.50/km has now become the average for a road race (R150 for a 100k race). What really ticks me off is the cost for riding a tandem. In my opinion it's still only 1 bike so the call is - are we charged an entry fee for the bike or the riders???? I easily accept that tandems should be charged more than a single, but DOUBLE........... I use my tandems (road & MTB) to introduce novices to bigger rides - but being charged double the sigle-rider fee makes it rediculously expensive. So my apologies to Berge & dale, Carnival City and Ride for sight but my finances only allowed me to ride Fast One (R330 entry fee) and Emperors Palace (R300). Keen to ride Kremetart but have a suspicion it's not going to happen.
  13. Wow, that RIZE is NICE!! so is the Yeti, and the Giant, and the Specialized, the Focus is a brick, you can get a Marin Mount Vision Pro from West Rand Cycles. Scott make nice girls bikes (ducks and heads for cover...) but you've forgotten about the GT's, Ellsworth, Orbea, BH, some Merida's are cool because they're made by Specialized engineers....Raleighs are cool - but ugly......I like the Gary Fisher 29'er but the Ventana El Kapitan is also good...................eish............So many bikes - so little time, enjoy your shopping
  14. Will be keen to see a pic
  15. How much are they selling for?
  16. Thanks so much Velo- the Rolls it has to be. Thanks for the heads-up on TotalCycling.com. Oiram, I also see you changed the wheels - if you want to get rid of the originals please pm me (I'm currently building three retro steel road bikes) On the topic of steel...... - no....I wont hijack - I'll start a new thread.
  17. What did you do with the original saddle?? i'm looking for a retro saddle for the Daccordi I'm currently building - this is what it looks like so far.
  18. They found the weapon of mass destruction!!!!!!!!!!
  19. I'm so pleased I don't have to make this decision for a while still......... My personal call at the moment would be between the Gary Fisher HiFi or the SantaCruz Superlight, or, using your choices, the Specialized Epic.
  20. My goodness this thread is funny - can i have another popcorn please...............
  21. Very nice indeed. great thing to be able to use the bike to spread the Gospel. Tazman, check your pm.
  22. In all seriousness, is a bike ride worth your life? I dont care who I'm riding with, if the robot's red I stop - and if you're wearing Westgate Wheelers kit and you jump a red robot you are asked to return your kit and your membership is terminated immediately. Guys, to risk your life for the sake of a bike ride proves your immeasurable stupidity. My 20gazillion Zim dollars worth. Have a moerse lekker 2009!
  23. A friend of mine is looking for a workstand. She can get a Parktool PCS-4 for R3k. I said it sounds like a good deal. What do you guys think?
  24. Posting has been a serious mission today - the site is dismally slow. Means I actually had to do some work today - bummer - whatever you do don't try download an emoticon - slows everything down......:-{(
  25. Thanks for the comments.I paid R3,800 for it. I have been searching for a top end classic steel for a while. My dream is still to get a Eddy Merckx in 7-Eleven colours (my dream-team when I was a youngster after the movie "American Flyers" got me hooked on cycling for life) The bike weighs in at 9.8kg's which, for it's day, was ultra superlight. Unfortunately it looks like the bike spent a lot of time being baked by the sun - the paint on the top of the tubes has faded into what I would call a 'dirty yellowish white' (if that makes sense) and it's got a couple of scratches down to the metal. So unfortunately it is going to have to pay a visit to CycleArt. But i think the stainless spokes will also make a BIG difference. Will post new pics as the restoration happens.
