  1. Would be keen. Where from, how far, what time, what is slow to medium pace for you Roer? I was going to post the same for MTB out south. So lets see what replies we get.
  2. Any good advice : in which situations should the lock out be used? ]
  3. Please can someone advise the best option bike carrier for a Honda CRV with rear wheel mounting. I do not like the idea of the strap on type which rests on the wheel as two MTB's can weigh a fair bit. How would one have to modify the standard town bar bike caddy or are the tow bars fitters familiar with type of problem? Txs
  4. Hi and welcome - I would suggest one of the best places close to you in the Vaal area to meet and ride from is The Circus. Regular rides MTB or Road. It is the big circus tent along the R59. Heading North it would be on your right hand side. Take the Randvaal off ramp and you can not miss it. Riders congregate at 6h45 for a 7h00 start. PM me if you would like to arrange to come through and see where we are and what to expect. Cheers Buffwhack
  5. Cycle out from the circus is not too technical though these can be included for of a challenge. Mostly single track, farm roads and some longish climbs that require stamina more than short sharp strength work. Route can go out toward Bronk drive or it can head out to Walkers Fruit Farms and include the common, farmlands the old None reserve and the Arboretum. So if you want to join me this Saturday let me know. PM me as I will lead the ride if anyone joins. Otherwise I will be forced to ride road.
  6. Why has this topic stopped? Is it winter enought yet? Anyone want to ride next Saturday from the circus?
  7. Yes I do know the area ? and yes I do swing both ways cause otherwise I'd never get any riding done
  8. What does one need to do to get a MTB ride out south of Jo'burg??? Am I just not selecting the right day or time? Are there any groups that meet every weekend that I could join? Please,I am forced to ride road bike as it seems that the MTBikers don't want to get out and ride.Buffwhack2008-06-26 09:51:39
  9. Tick - Tock Circus is on the R59 heading towards Vereeninging and the Randvaal/Walkerville turnoff. Can't miss the tent. So anyone willing to join? Speed will not be crazy but also not too slow anything from 12 to 25 plus at places.
  10. Maybe it's my bike - it's ot as tough as it looks
  11. Okay I am trying this again - Is there anyone wanting to join in on a group ride. Departing from the Circus (Guateng South) 8am this coming Saturday morning. Not looking at a killer of a ride but would like to be out 3 hours or so. Bring money for a half way pit stop. Will not be a technical ride. Any one out there ?
  12. Anyone have any comments or feedback on the Scott Scale 60 2007. Thinking about getting one but not too familiar with Scott. A couple of postings rate it pretty good but most negatives seem to be about frame thickness or lack of it. Front shocks are Rock Shock Tora and these too seem to be questionable.
  13. 9 speed ultergra - I feel that the jockeys are too close to the spokes when I am on the biggest sproket. Do I set this distance with the H/L adjuster screws or could it be another problem? I know I use the L screw if it is not selecting the smallest sproket but turning the H does not seem to do anything. Advice please. Thanks Buffwhack2008-06-08 07:30:34
  14. I see Mr Borman is on the line but all feel free to assist. I am putting together a training bike, moved all the components from a bike too large to a better suited size. All has gonne pretty well, have been using my Diffinative guide DVD and books. I understand how to set the limit screws but what I am not sure of is how do I get the derailleur to shift the chain to the big chain ring, is this determined by the cable or the limit screws? I know its always best to take it to someone who knows what they are doing but I enjoy working on my bikes and feel it necessary to know how and what to do should I one day need it whilst out on the raod. Don't laugh guys, I'm a girl. No my other half does not cycle.
  15. Thanks Big H
  16. I am moving my old 9 speed Ultegra components onto a new frame. I know you need some special tools to perform some tasks - is removing cranks one of them?
  17. Hello Joe Low - I was going to send out a message as to your whereabouts, you have been very quiet. I have a few scrapes and bruises. More upset as I was feeling like it was going to be a good one for me.
  18. Well that was just bleeding marvellous. For the first time I managed to stay in there with the lead bunch. I was in 7th heaven thinking "this is it I'm going to see how long I can sit with them". Coasting along at 42 - 45 km, we just started to get into a rhythm when someone went down near the front. We fell like dominos, I took the gravel option only to have someone go down in front of me and Bobs your uncle I was out with a buckled wheel. No back up no spare, not even 10min into the race. I curse the girl who casued it and hope no one was husrt too bad. So how was your race?
  19. I am sure this would have come up before - however I have not been around as long as some of your Hubbers. I have been using White Lightning (dry) on both my MTB and Road bike and have found it a pretty cleam product to use. I changed over to Weldtite. I can not belive how messy this stuff is. Beside the tatoo on the inside of my calf the chain and components related to the chain are filthy. Its looks as if I have not cleaned my bike for weeks. Is this perhaps a sign of over lubrication or is it just the nature of this prodyct?
  20. You are one of the luck ones - see nationwide.co.za, just posted a letter to advise all but does not say how long for
  21. Too much aceeeeeed Nice try - sweet
  22. Are there any IATA boffins out there that know anything about how the whole travel industry works. My partner was booked to return from the UK after attending a funeral,on Monday the 3rd. Well as most of you know, Nationwide have been grounded. Was onto the Travel agent and all they say that the passangers must make their own way back at their own cost, @#$%!#$ marvellous. So we've just paid R6000 for a return trip and now we must pay R10 000 for a oneway ticket from London. Can not get hold of Nationwide and nobody is interested at the travel agent. Any one have advise other than alcohol
