  1. does anyone know who was taking pictures? and where to fine them?
  2. I am also *** on uphills but built for the downhills
  3. Narra My son was one "of the youngters" on the 45km (he won the race)He complained that when he asked for track it was not given, so had to go off line. he says that mid pack of the 75km and over 30,s would not let them past!!!! Or as he put it as i came in broken from the 45km "The old farts must realize that they are too slow"
  4. Hi, For a first event by the organiser it was not bad and offered good value for money R60 for the 20km & R80 for 40(34km) other races of the same distance are over R120 + late penalties= R170. They had 120 online entries and in true Jhb fashion 200 on the day so it is no surprise they ran out of cable ties, but a good MTB always has there own stock My only gripe is that Jhb MTB riders cannot do technical or anything that looks like a bump in the track. i fell off twice because riders just stop. The track was a good mix and was fun, and for those that were overtaken by a fat old bast**d on a single speed with a ridged fork should feel embarressed

Hi The CGC office is in fourways you can contact them on 011 465 9635 Your club should have sorted this out, CGC has licences that clubs have not collected yet. It could be why you do not have it yet

  8. hi I am in the area and in need of someone to ride with PM me
  9. Your data for the number board does remain the same. The data for the race comes from the online portals as the timming system used could be different from race to race. The online companies, timming companies and others are protective over the data and do not use the same fields for ID age etc etc that is why at most races there is a large amount of manual work that has to take place As someone said SS are one of the better companies and you cannot do Sabie +2000 entries by hand with the new 5 number boards. I have been on the finish lines and to take down 3 numbers on boards with that amount of riders is impossible
  10. Hi, Having been on both sides of the fence, rider/Organizer/commissarie/water bottle holder for a race snake, The most common cause of wrong sex/age is that riders do not check what they have on the online entry system before they press proceed. The data that spectrum sport use comes from these online portals. i have seen many times and had to sort out sex/age changes in the results because the data is wrong. Next time you enter please check before you enter the button. Just my 2 cents
  11. Hi Had the same problem on the chain stay, it started cracking from the drain holes GF replaced. Also check the carbon seat stays at the top were it is joined on to the alum part and at the bottom by the drop outs as mine broke soon afterwards, could have been from stress from first problem. that was in December 2008 and have not had anymore problems since
  12. Go with the XT wheels, i changed from the Bontragers as they had too much flex, Also seen a set American Classics which were tubless and in white, Verrry nice
  13. Hello, A trick that i saw the great Gary Fisher use on his bike when he was last here, was to tie a large headed zip tie on to the chain stay just behind the gears. This stops the chain from catching and chain suck is prevented, simple. I have used this on all our bikes since including the Sabie xperence and no chain suck!!!!!!!!!!! Lube will also help Rgds
  14. The point is that 29r are for people over 1.7 mtrs tall. For those that do not ride 29r,s you will not know how we feel at the end of a ride which is slightly better than your mates on their small wheels!!! You will all come over to the dark side at some point, unless you are under 1.7!!!
  15. Hi If you go for the race kings get the protection tyres as the side walls are better than the UST. I have also heard that the protections are the only ones made in Germany, the other versions are made in India and there have been problems?
  16. PS Lance won a race a few months ago on a 29r
  17. Hi have been riding 29r,s for over a year now. It has changed my riding for the better. I may lose a little bit of time going up hill, but down its goodbye and on the flat so much faster. I will admit that it takes longer to get warmed up as you need more effort but by the end you finish freasher as you will have done less peddling that your mates.
  18. Have a look at your frame, also had the same problem turned out to be a crack in the chain stay. Once replaced problem gone
  19. Hi I have been running 2 pairs for over a year now. One set for me 100kg and 1 for my race snake son 60kg Both sets have had problems with staying true, though it has been fixable. I have also had to replace both freehubs at the same time. My set low kms high wt, the other very high km low wt? Have broken a few spokes. and trying to get spares takes or ever(thks steven for bad service) Having said all of the above, i would not change them as they do give me a sense of comfort knowing that they are bulet proof. If you can get a set at good price buy them.
  20. I need some help I was out riding when the greater forces pulled my front wheel out from under me. When i had stopped rolling i was covered in a few black jacks ( are we still allowed to call them that in the new SA) And what i can only describe as mother natures VELCRO Now if i had been wearing the cheaper riding clothes i would have put them in the bin, but with life always wanting to kick you when you are down it was my Assos shorts and cape storm jacket. Has any one any suggestions on removing this "velcro" from my very expensive riding gear???
  21. Hi, had to take my son to a sports nutrition expert last week. I was told that USN cytopower was not what it is cracked up to be and is no good at all, this would explain why he was washed out. Its not Kj that you need but carbohydrates For a sports drink to use during workouts and racing, i was told to use 1/2 apple juice, 1/2 water, But have settled for Energade as it has a higher carb per 100ml (40g)
  22. If i am not mistaken, most of those packets are left over from the Nationals that was held a few weeks ago. I rode around on the sunday after and on the top road when you come out the second time, which was the only place to drink/eat the road was full of the packets. And a lot more than what was collected today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Entry fees

For my 2 cents I am a family of 4, my son and i would do the longer distances which i do not mind paying for because we race. But for my wife and younger son who do the fun rides paying over R30 for 10-15Km is taking it to far The fun races held at northern farm is just a rip off, as the costs must be very low. I have just come back from KZN and with the MTB races the family aspect is well looked after and is inexpensive and well attended. There should be a set cost per KM for a race/fun ride so that we are not screwed over
