  1. "Forgive my ignorance but who is Johan Bornman?" He invented the first bike. Carved it out of wood with a penknife. Seriously.
  2. There is an oil inside the shock and after a while it denatures seperating into water and sticky gunk.
  3. Ride to? As in on the road?
  4. "oh Rubbish, it costs a LOT more these days to eat healthily than to eat poorly..." Only considering the cost of the food. Add in the triple bypass surgery and its not so cheap anymore.
  5. Prepare to get flamed! ***sound of flamethrower warming up***
  6. Carbon is much stronger than aluminium/steel for given weight when stressed in the correct way (i.e. not in an impact of a crash).
  7. Thanks Azonic. I can attest that scraping it with a tyre lever does not work. Out of interest: where can you buy Stayseal?
  8. Anyone know a good way to do this?
  9. Another option is Groenkloof - you will probably have to loop it to get in the km's.
  10. "hmmm can we still enter online or at the race on Saturday?" That what he means by line entries. Vori Berg is a nice ride. It is a bit further to drive there than Van Gaalens though...
  11. Some components hold value better (quality wheelset, frame) while others (drivetrain, tyres) are essentially consumables and they value is largely related to their wear and tear status.
  12. "I am trying kingkloof this weekend." I know nothing about it. Where is it? What is it like?
  13. Teaks will feel longer than 40km because of some steep climbs and a lot of tight singletrack.
  14. You can ride at Northern Farms - there are lots of riders there and there has not been an issue since they upgraded security. It about 40km to go around so you might have to repeat. Teaks is also about 40km if you do both sides of the road. Teaks is an awesome trail so go try it out. Make sure you go around the right direction as they switch it often. Another option is Breedts Nek - although its on public roads and more for 'hills training'.
  15. Anyone know how many cyclist are killed in a year by accidents? - referring to cyclists who cycle for sport.
  16. Patches is right. XT soak up mud and dirt like a white sheet. Hope II's are the best value for money while Chris Kings hubs are the best hubs for silly money.
  17. "I'd say that the majority of mtbkers (80% ?) wont feel the difference between QR vs Thru axle neither will they be able to tell the difference between 1980 rubber and 2011 rubber or between an alu frame and a carbon frame." I assert that 80% of MTB'ers will agree with that statement and believe themselves to be in the top 20%.
  18. I had longer over Christmas - then again Egnland was all iced up.
  19. "Its was a ghetoo conversion" UST tyres are much tighter around the rim to prevent this. Depending on your weight you should pump Ghettos harder than normal to try and prevent this. Note: if it comes off at high speed be prepared for some pain.
  20. One advantage is not strength according to one-poster-somewhere-on-the-internet there is no instance of a quick release ever snapping in two from the force of riding (not to say quick releases can't come loose etc).
  21. “Having babies is a revolutionary thing. You must reproduce! If you shame a black man about his large family, you should immediately change your attitude.” Zuma is certainly doing his part. Gotta wonder if they own any history books though...
  22. Northern Farms is a nature reserve.
  23. "Or Northern Farm" I often see child seats on bikes here (complete with young children in them!).
  24. "Sorry - homeopathic stuff does not work." They are used by many, many people and sold in every pharmacy I have been into. Your anecdotal evidence that they do not work for you is not exactly helpful.
  25. Scotty is right. Scientific trials show that vitamins are highly effective at preventing colds/flu but absolutely useless at curing them. That being said - it can't hurt - besides, most people 'feel much better' after a vitamin B injection.
