  1. Oh dear... don't think we'll tackle the?relative merits?of protecting one bit of environment over another and other types of impacts either.... You could be right?about?why?the bridge was built (though more likely?as others have said - some?don't want?to stop and get off?if?they can't ride not soo much wetness) and Minty?is probably?correct in about? size?of bridge and the rest of his point. ?It is ratherly large... ? The idea that heavily ridden trails sometimes need dumbing down to prevent environmental damage is still valid (even if I've been shouted down about it in this context!) Oh bloody good point Homer! (shuffles off to take advice) ?? Cheryl J2009-04-14 08:39:00
  2. Um what?info? ? Hi Cheryl, I'm not talking about the concrete bridge section. We are talking about the RIVER CROSSING. When last were you at Tokai? Ahh - you mean the?erosion at?the river crossing..... (note I did?ask which lot of erosion you were asking about....!). ?Well there's been quite a bit?of?that too over?the?last number?of years.??On both sides?of the bank.... ?Also go through?that spot?after a bunch?of guys have?rideen through (prior bridge) and you?could?see?the silt?in?the water. (not?that walking through?there?as some do didn't also cause damage........) Anyway - point is, very high volumes of riders can have?a big?environmental?impact, which?can?require 'dumbing?down' of trails to?prevent environmental?impacts...... anyway - i want to see that bridge in winter, once its acquired a nice moss coating........ ?
  3. Um what?info? You?can't miss?the?erosion / widening trail down to the concrete bridge unless you've been sleeping for?the?last few?years?everytime you ride?up?there.....??its got easier?to ride?up?as?the?slope has?eroded back,?not?to mention?as?other?options have been created, widening turning?circle?on?top,?more exposed tree routes?a bit?higher etc etc Unfortunately?as far?as I?know there?aren't?any plans?to sort?it?out?currently.???
  4. The bridge is good environmentally, less erosion / silt deposited in the river everytime someone rides through and wafting over all the critters that live in it.. etc etc. That's a high frequency ride trail. ?hmmm now to do something about the erosion / ever widening trail down to the concrete bridge.... ?? Fact is - in highly used areas, trails may need to be 'dumbed' down to avoid the nastier envirnomental impacts.??Not everyone rides 'just the trail as it is', many seek easier lines. ?And no - in a highly used area like Tokai education aint going to get to them all..... Thanks! to all the guys taking the time to fix up. ?
  5. aaarrgghhh.... I have to work Spose its one way of supporting the camera equipment habit....... not to mention the bike habit too!!!

  7. Cool pics Ronelle. ?Looks a tad faster than yesterday!
  8. Cyclone - suggest you have a look at the map they've got at the Arboretum gate. Its got several routes marked. The road to Silvermine is really pretty (and a tad bumpy towards the end...). Also - the ride to the mast has stunning views and might suit you better? Its a half / half ride with some tar for you. The last 5.5km's averages about 9-10% gradient (probably the biggest hill in CT! Should help you break a sweat. Oh and on the way back down, look out for the singletrack on the left once you're back on Level 5 (see aforementioned map). Hope you enjoyed it - twas an absolutely stunning day out there this morning
  9. QUOTE=Ronelle] awesome series... how his head missed that stump is a miracle... Unless it did?

    Anthem X1

I have a question: Does anyone else's Anthem X1 bob a lot when pedalling - particularly when spinning uphill - unless you 'lock out' the rear shock? ?I have set sag to recommended 10mm or so and unless I 'lock out' the shock with the RP32 lever thingy I get a lot of bob... Tis fine if locked out but then I need to remember to unlock on the way down. Thoughts?
  14. Ok a few more here

  18. Great pictures guys. Thanks!
  19. Very nice. ?great in the mud and easy to clip into when setting off. Just remember to keep them very well serviced otherwise the bearings turn into a small heap of rust...... (you can get a rebuild kit though)
  20. What a great event. ?I had loads of fun and it was a complete privelage being able to ride so many different bikes :-) It was quite amazing how different everyone's opinoins of the different bikes actually was. Thanks very much to all involved and all the hard work. ? That was great fun Cheryl J2009-02-16 01:38:15
  21. SANParks have?all the trails mapped and?are very clear which?are?open to which users. there is an EMP for mtbing for the peninsula. ?Not too sure whether the latest edition has been posted publicly. ?Also they do have a map (I think...). ?There is one at the gate on a big board. I'm not sure of extent of education of other users.......
  22. as long as you stick to riding on mtb routes only as well and have never taken a chance and ridden where you should have not. no I don't ride where i?should not.??i'm?not?aware?of?the fact?that generally landowners have?a good?sense?of what?is?going?on, and?are more?receptive?to law abiding users than?those breaking?the?rules. ?ever tried?to get?access extended /?more trail opened only?to have?the?landowner/manager?put?the 'but we don't trust mtb'ers coz they?don't obey?the?rules now' argument...?
