  1. JR , thats the point, you know there are bikes, but do they ? ?Maybe it was their first time on this track and as it waws not marked MTBers only they thought they could use it? Did you take the time to chat to them ? ?And single track ? so if they were in single file could you have gotten past them ? What should they have done to make your ride more pleasant ? All good points Slowbee. ?However what is key is that if you want to ride your horse in Tokai (part of the National Park) you need to have an annual permit. ?As part of buying this you get told where you are / are not allowed to ride. ? there is also a sign at the gate which provides some indication....
  2. Hi I've noticed this aswell... luckily I haven't had the same experience as you... ? Perhaps try contacting SANParks who administer the area? ?All horseriders have to have permits and there are not a lot of them apparently. ?So it shouldn't be too hard for SANParks to issue a warning / please to the approx 100 riders NOT to use singletrack built specifically for MTBing. Trail sharing is all very well on large jeeptracks / roads. ?Its ridiculous on singletrack ----------------------------- Ok just mailed Meurant who has mailed the SANParks guy. Be interesting to see the response Cheryl J2009-01-23 01:22:52
  3. Agreed. ?Your frame does sound big... I'm 1.64m tall and I have a small mountain bike frame and a small road frame. Cheryl J2009-01-22 05:26:48
  4. Great shots Ronelle!
  5. Nice pics Buckshot. ?Agree with Ronelle re flash?perhaps. ?Not too sure why you're unhappy? ?Compositions?are great, and?nice?and sharp (always hard with people hurtling past you!) Cheryl J2009-01-14 06:17:37

  9. Thanks for an awesome ride guys. ?It was tough, loads of fun and I really enjoyed it. ?Majic forest twice was fun - having not ridden here for ages.??It was?a?nice fun filled finish?at?the end?as?well- it made up for that hike a bike up the hill bit.... The views from Tygerberg reserve were amazing and the riding really fun and technical. ?Definitely worth it!! ? It was nice doing an event that was tough and technical - there need to be more of these. PS - the compulsory warm up was an interesting twist on the route :-) ?but ?the rest of the ride more than made up for it.
  10. Hi Guys I hope that the trails you are riding on Signal Hill are those that fall within the 'legal' mountain biking trails. ?Signal Hill falls squarely within the Table Mountain National Park which is run by South African National Parks. Along with AMARider there has been a lot of work with SANParks on documenting trails, obtaining?funding for maintenance?in places?like Tokai etc. ?One of the keys to working with SANParks is compliance by mountain bikers with 'legal' trails. ?The more compliance, the more we will hopefully in future be able to ride. I am all for new trail, but please check in with landowners before building. Cheryl J2008-11-09 13:20:27
  11. It does depend though. ?If I was doing an 8 day event, the two person team thing ?would be better. ?However, for two or three day events I personally prefer individual riding. Cheryl J2008-11-09 13:27:06
  12. Nope. turns out tis a known problem that xtr centre lock rotors are not compatible with all callipers. problem solved by acquiring xt centre lock rotors.
  13. Recently (this weekend) discovered non-compatibility: XTR centre-lock rotors and Hayes 9 disc brakes...... sigh. The tabby thingy on the Hayes pad gets hit by the 'spoke' of the rotor - which on XTR is black and chunky...
  14. The Cederberg Experience in October is a 3 day stage race for individuals.
  15. Dpds on where you are staying as to the options! There's the normal gravel roads - not wildly exciting technically but go on for quite a while. then there are options like the 4x4 route between Wuppertahl and Matjiesrivier. Rough, loose (in summer) and with some steeepp hills (500m in 3k's from the wuppertahl side). Also check out Kraaiberg pass from Biedouw valley and over to Kouberg pass (plus some 4x4 routes up that side). Plus the ride to heuningvlei and the back via brugkraal. Plus other options round krommerivier / sanddrif etc. just dpds on where you're staying! note: just be careful of what's in the wilderness area under CNC's control..... its nice, very nice riding but..... A good bet is to have a look at Peter Slingsby's Cederberg Map. It has the main roads as well as 4x4 etc tracks marked Cheryl J2008-06-11 13:28:54
  16. Johan's right. Best job is to find the nearest river... which helps for a bit. (I figure less mud grinding down the drive chain is better than water everywhere before I can get it home to sort out) Or - carry water in your water bottle specifically for cleaning the drive chain off.... 17. Max and Min heartrates are very individual. What matters is what range your own heart rate does. All the formulas are averages! and often based on unfit people. Know what your 'normal' range is and how your heart rate normally responsds. Then you can monitor and determine when its not 'normal' (for you).
  18. Good point....?i.e. a heart rate based session will lead to a different power curve than a power based session. ?And accordingly a different training response. Seems quite logical, actually. Where the?Doctor's?research does kinda get interesting for me?is?in looking at what is required from HR based training in?contrast?to power training. ?I.e. what do I need to do based on HRate to get an equivelant power based training session. i.e. to do?ramped?power?interval?strategy?only?utilising?my?HR?monitor,?I?should?do? a?steady?state?hr?interval?such?as?that?tested. Or something along those lines.
  19. Nice ratty... but its sooo pink. sob sob. what about a nice bling silver or black with or something. why is it always pink?? i ask with tears in my eyes. i mean this is very nice but its also pink sigh.
  20. A few pics from the time trial the winner of the stage - the only one in a LOT of pictures riding in this position (in the drops) (tx jasonw for spotting that one)
  21. Good Pt! Tx
  22. I was kinda wondering about real world performance.... I've had 'water resistant' trip computers indicating I'm doing 5km/hr when I'm clearly doing about 40km/hr in the rain......
  23. Hi I'm thinking of getting a Polar CS600. The question: Has anyone with one of these experienced any problems in rainy / muddy conditions? (minus power of course) Think of Sani2c day 1 2006. Mind you that was exteme! Tx!
