The real killer of the Tokai mast is the last 5.5km's - 500m of ascent. I think thats an average of 9% for over 5k's. Thank God its on Tar!

Um.. I just remembered , I tried a Fizik something or other (nizene?) that came with my second hand mtb. I tossed it after sliding around everywhere - non-ideal on my MTB!

I've got a selle italia ldy gel on my road & mtb. They're great. Never tried specialised.
