  4. Mhhhh Roadbike you say? Cant say the thought has not crossed my mind yet Ended up putting a baby seat behind the first bike I bought and my 20 month old daughter loves it so so so much that all the cycling this far has been worth just the look on her face.
  5. Ji Markmad, will try Hoogekraal and HIllcrest cant believe the places you get to with a MTB awesome We do Koeberg from my home, so around 9km to the start of the trail and then around 25 and the 9 back, so a good 43km.
  6. Tiny Update Cycling 15km at least 3 times a weeks and then a 30-40km over the weekend. Losing some blubber but can feel myself getting fitter, eeven starting to enjoy the odd looong uphill. Upgraded to a Merida TFS900 29er that was properly set up and did the cleat thing a few weeks ago, good news is I am not landing on my nose much anymore. This sport is awesome
  7. Hi Pieta PM sent apologies for missing this Doing it this coming Sunday from Melkbos, around 40km very slow:) sounds great, how far about, longer rides are becoming more fun and I am even starting to enjoy grinding out hills
  8. will be there will bring a few fellow chubby/ slow cyclists as well many a teddy
  9. Must say I decided to give CWC another (2) Chances First to ask about a Bryton 20 USB cable, was told R190 and would order and phone when it arrives, around 2 weeks later nothing yet, but hey its a cable and wont be paying for the staff xmas braai. . Went in on Monday to buy a bike seat for my 19y/o to put on a spare bike so she can join dad on a few gentle rides, went in asked the fella at the counter, seemed a little annoyed at being interupted but walked me over to the seats that was stacked on a high shelf and said. " we have these" pointing at it. Turns out it was the unit I wanted and had done some homework on, but that was it, no will it fit on this or that asked will it fit on a Hardrock, reply " should" So I took the unit, I certainly wont drive around CWC and not go in, lets face it the shop is awesome and someone there is hugely passionate about cycling, I would buy items on which I dont need advise, but not where I have tons of stupid questions, and as a noob I have a hell of a lot of those. This is just my experience, obviously tons of other people have had just the opposite.
  10. Would love to join, very slow but will bring extra teddies to make up
  11. Much old thread but....... Started riding to lose weight, now I am losing weight to enjoy the ride more. Seeing awesome places, Tokai, Jonkershoek, meerendal, Schapenberg etc etc And of course I realised that riding a bike today is as much fun as it was when I was a kid.
  12. Yip have a good LBS make sure its the right size, right stem, seatpost etc etc In my limited experience, a correctly sized and fitted 5K bike will more of a joy than an ill fitting 10K bike Good luck
  13. mRYellow I myself are a noob, so all I can do is give you my advice from a newbie point of view. I started buying a specialized hardrock sport with v brakes, then upgraded to a Scott Aspect 10 26 er, after all this I took the plunge and bought a decent 29 er, but most importantly its the first bike I had fitted properly and Imho that alone is what made the biggest differerance. So .... Get it fitted properly Look at the Titan bikes in that price range, 29er imo. Get something with a lock out on the shock at the very least, helps on dem uphills If you expect to ride a lot of off road discs are substantialy better The one biggest improvement for me was getting fitter, and get a nice bunch to ride with. I am sure the experts will help out her
  14. Thanks Chris Make no mistake, AWESOME shop, but I just get the impression I am not the target market (whether I can afford it or not) Its just staff would rather be dealing with the guy gearing up for the EPIC, and not the guy trying to shake a few kilos and get into the sport. And though it might not have been intentional it is still how it comes across to me when I walk in and start asking questions.
  15. From a noobs point of view Got some really good newbie advice and service from City Cycles. A gent by the name of Chris andanother young fellow took time to explain the dead basics over and over again to me Mate of mine bought a Momsen from Cycle lab in Tygervalley and had endless hassles, until they agreed to swap the bike out, he loved the bike but the workshop and customer service was a tad lacking. So i stay away. CWC, awesome shop, drool, but unfortunetaly I get the distinct impression they dont cater for guys like me, I bought GPS computer and got 2minutes rushed assistance before the sales guy left me in a dust cloud to help a more cyclist looking cyclist. Also went there looking for a bike twice but similar feeling and left without buying, sorry uncle Chris dont want to run your shop down, I can see you guys do a great job but just my feeling. Then my now LBS, around 50 km from home but worth it Geco Cycles, took ages explaining everything to me, then ages setting up the bike and o boy hat a difference, comfortable and loving it. I felt a tad guilty becuase pro cyclist should get this type of service, not guys trying to lose weight and have fun rides. Must say they have got my vote. But again, just my noob opinion
  16. Check Card i.e cash First bike 3500 which started me out and two weeks later around 10 k for a more considered purchase
  17. That is way cool
  18. RIP What a waste. Strength to the family.
  19. Thanks, loved Koeberg We are doing Jonkershoek on Sunday AM
  20. Right, so I have gone from doing 6km round trips to doing 15km 3 to 4 times a week and loving it. Tried Meerendal today and I must be honest I need to be a lot fitter to really enjoy it, stairway to heaven was rather tough on me :-) So I was wandering if you good people might know of a few farm roads or other routes that has great scenery that I can try with our motley crew for our (now regular) weekend ride? I was thinking - general cape town area from stellies to malmesbury type idea -20 - 30km -Some but not too many silly uphils (at this stage) -Great scenary - maybe a little brekky place nearby Thanks in advance
  21. eish

  24. Thanks guys, Nishiki just bought the Kindle version. As for motivation, my wife is a pitbul if she sets her mind to something. Right now she is very serious about me losing weight, you see my mom passed away with cancer 4 months and my sister 3 weeks ago with cancer as well, so motivation I promise is there. dre thanks, I will add that to my mental notebook
