  5. Hilltribe Cycling Club invites you to join us Depart from Broadacres (KFC side) 06h00 Route: Cedar road, Shortcut through Lanseria airport (a good opportunity to meet and greet new faces), RIGHT onto the R512 towards Hartebeespoort Dam LEFT at the Pelindaba T-junction ... Pecanwood, Tracking Station ... return via Sterkfontein Caves; Glenburn Lodge; Elandsdrift. The purpose of this ride is Time in the Saddle - so anticipate a ride time of 4hours. There will be experienced riders of various strengths, average speed 24km + en-route we can determine the need to split the group if necessary, but strong riders are encouraged to support others by setting and controlling an appropriate pace, sitting in the wind etc etc. cyclenut2009-10-27 07:14:27

  7. @splat - I take that to mean it's been published before ... sorry everyone ... clearly I don't spend all my time on the hub. After all, I'm only 25,000 posts behind HR
  8. There's a core group of roughly 10 riders ... but since the formalisation of the club and the ability to issue license this will no doubt grow. Saturday rides are predominantly road ... but MTB ride's are also organised ad-hoc by the members themselves ... these are communicated to other members who are free to join in. A firm favourite for MTB is the Lion Man where we generally make a weekend of it with the WAGS. Hilltribe will register you for road and/or MTB licenses. The occasional tour is planned and members will have first option on available spaces.
  9. I've been organising our group rides for three years now and finally decide to go formal by registering a club. If you live in Fourways and want to avoid the madness of William Nicol on Saturday mornings you're welcome to join us. We depart from Broadacres and do rides of various distances through the cradle ... 60km, 80km, 100km and occassionally distances beyond that depending on group requirements. There's also an option of 36km route. Start times are currently flexible between 06h30 and 07h30 depending on the season. And 6am or earier for 100km + rides. Joining Fee is R150, Annual Membership is R350 (not payable in the first year when you order a set of kit). The next kit production run will be in November, so the time to act is now. If you're interested in the rides or joining the Club please PM me your details.

  15. Riding back along cedar road in fourways on saturday I saw an MTB rider flat on his back .. being attended to by his mate and a lady who had been driving in the opposite direction - I don't think she was involved - I'm guessing just an eyewitness to this dude going over his bars or similar. Being on the other side of busy road I couldn't see much but did ask if there was anything I could do to help. I was told there was an abulance on the way. Sure enough when I approached Dainfern the paramadics were almnost there. By all means feel free to share the details of the incident if you know what happened but more importantly - Is this guy okay??
  16. Mine comes in @ 6.8kg - race ready. Solis Umbra (54cm); Equinox Wheels; SRAM all round

  18. http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/sram-issues-powerlock-voluntary-recall (is it worth having a Product Recall forum so they're all kept in one place)??
  19. there's usually a timing mat on the longer loop which the shorter route particpants will not cross- e.g Cansa Lost City. Official Result DNF/DQ. Can't stop them colelcting medals and cokes for which they are not deserving. It's up to conscience.
  20. Agree: a great place to ride - better value than the cycle park and more to keep mom and kids entertaine. Agree on the food comments - they don't really have a "breakfast on the go" option. The Sunday buffet, however, is great value - 120 pp. Had this yesterday.
  21. looks good - thanks
  22. I'm taking the missus away for long weekend next month. Are there any good trails / parks to be explored by MTB. Remeber - this is the missus / Feather Legs we're talking about, so nothing too technical. Would appreciate any info / maps / routes / coffee stops etc
  23. Nice wheels Gnarly
