  1. Riding not the challenge - clipping-in is the biggest problem
  2. Love mine .. 2 yrs no problems ... left them on for training over the passed 10months ... now I have to get some 80mm for racing
  3. same day as LA's Twitter ride. I wonder what the residents will think? (10,000 people expected for the upcoming Adelaide ride with LA and Robbie McEwan before the TDU)
  4. Love my DMT's - 3 yrs no problems.
  5. Why would anyone let someone walk all over them like that?
  6. It does' date=' but your specified all risks doesn't cover your bike while racing - only training. [/quote'] Nope: covered whilst racing too
  7. Specified items ... worked out cheaper ....
  8. Patrick - I think I can help - PM your e-mail address
  9. Bike prices are not much cheaper ... anything imported has heavy taxes. The Astana Trek (RB) was R110k against R80k here. There are a number of tours - just use google, you need to book early. You're biggest enemy will be the humidity.
  10. A perfect match for my new kit and then I noticed "Nissan" on the rear stay .....
  11. Function over Form: more to do with keeping in the heat than trying to look good (or bad)
  12. It's up to us to ride responsibly.
  13. An open invitation from Hilltribe Cycling Club Depart from Broadacres (KFC side) @ 06h00 (meet @ 05h45) Route: Cedar road toward Lanseria N14 toward Krugersdorp Hill Up the Hill and thru the town A loop around Randfontein Return via the Cradle of Human Kind The purpose of this ride is Time in the Saddle - so anticipate a ride time of anything between 4-5 hrs depending on stops be they human or mechanical. There will be experienced riders of various strengths, average speed 24km + en-route we can determine the need to split the group if necessary, but strong riders are encouraged to support others by setting and controlling an appropriate pace, sitting in the wind etc etc. If you're training for the Epic and want to join us on your mountain bike you are free to do so and wheel [sic]* accommodate you as much as possible. For those not up to the full distance of 110km(ish), due to injury obtained in training or Christmas parties, a couple of guys will turn back when we reach Krugersdorp Hill, ride distance roughly 50-60km. [* this one's for HR]
  14. So it's finally here ... please allow me my moment in the sun ...
  15. It covers both Road and MTB (used to be R110 plus R55 per discipline), but what I want to know is - if I only want to race "casually" for MTB do I pay R300 for racing license and another R75 for MTB cyclosport???
  16. Just ordered 100miler's for my new club. Have used the previous "gold class" for rides to Cape Town and KZN without issues. R950 is pricey. Don't get ripped off.
  17. a lighter helmet perhaps ... or get the current one re-fitted
  18. It is quite correct that a cost needs to be incurred for registering the additional amount (push for a 3-way split - you, attorney, bank) If you disagreed with the "registered loan amount" you should have queried this at the Attorney's before signing. sorry. p.s. the person doing the financial screwing is the attorney - the funds are paid to them. the person doing the lack of educating of options and implications is at the bank/originator
  19. SPD's on a road bike may give you a burning sensation on the soles of your feet - aka Hot Spot - caused by the small area of pedal to foot ... road cleats allow for a wider transfer of pressure - reducing the burning sensation. You can use either - but both are deisgned for specific purposes and should be used accordingly.

  22. an extract from RBR ... check out the vid. - I haven't tried the out-the-saddle sprint yet, although riding-off has been known to happen. What's the matter? You've decided to try riding rollers after hearing how well they improve pedaling smoothness (as opposed to riding your bike locked onto an indoor trainer). But you're skittish because there's nothing to hold you up and the bike could slip off the side. It looks like you'll need the talents of a unicyclist. <?: PREFIX = O /> Here's help: Actually, riding rollers is not as hard as it appears. It's sort of like riding a bike the first time. You're nervous and wobbly, but you quickly get the hang of it. The perceived difficulty is one reason trainers began taking over the indoor cycling market 25 years ago. Trainers offer stability, adjustable resistance and convenience, but no need for balance and smoothness. To improve those 2 attributes and add variety to indoor training, rollers are definitely worth considering. If you're not sure what rollers are, click to this 5-minute YouTube video called Stupid Roller Tricks to see a talented rider in action. When trying rollers for the first time, it helps to set them in a doorway so you can easily reach out to steady yourself. Use a moderate gear (not too low) and get a steady spin going, then try it without the help of the doorframe. Balance will come naturally, just like riding on the road. You'll quickly catch on. Just as when trying to keep a straight line outside, it helps to look forward rather than down at the front wheel. Later, when you no longer need the doorway as a security blanket, you can put the rollers next to a wall or have a stool just to the rear of the crank so you can easily step onto it. And don't worry -- if you do slip off the rollers you won't go flying forward across the room. There is no forward momentum. You'll just topple over. So for safety, don't set rollers close to anything that can hurt you if you fall on it, like the coffee table, TV or Fido the Wonderdog. Also, keep away little kids that might put a finger into the spinning spokes. (Coach Fred remembers seeing pro roadie Fred Rodriguez spinning away on a set of narrow Kreitler rollers at the Olympic Training Center. Fast Freddie not only removed his jacket while riding no-hands, he then took off his leg warmers!)
