  1. Like so - but with the external bearings top and bottom - http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/new-headset-allows-use-of-tapered-steerers-in-some-1-18in-head-tubes-25275/
  2. Hey guys, I am seeing loads of decent 1.5" steerer tube forks for sale or on special everywhere... Revelations, Totems, Lyrics etc There must be a way of running one of these on a standard 1,1/8 headtube (44mm). I am thinking something with external bearings top and bottom. Anyone try this? thanks
  3. true that...haha he sends this around though - so better to spot the fake one I suppose!

I mail him for ID and pictures - he sends them both immediately, nicely done - except on his ID he is 67 years old, and according to his mail he just relocated to Athens Greece for a new job and need to sell the bike for cash. A bit of a search showed the bike as advertised on a UK site in May - for 5500 pounds. The guy goes under the name Albert Benner. He stopped replying when I asked him for photos of himself with the bike. I attached photos of the bike and his ID. Beware of this guy! seems zero legit.

  7. OK, have to say this: Chris is a great guy, had a good chat and he is as sincere as they come! I will deffo pop into the shop to meet him in person.
  8. Saturday arvi - sorry - afternoon.
  9. Already phoned Chris, so no, I am not hiding behind my nick here.
  10. She bought on Thursday - rode same day, I saw the bike on Saturday arvi and she moved on Monday. With all the packing etc it would not have been possible to go back, and she left 5am Monday morning so also no good.
  11. Thanks Chris, not trying to bash you guys as I said, this might be a very isolated case. She as I said, moved to PE, so the bike is unfortunately not around here anymore. Luckily I know my way around a set of tools, so I sorted out all the pressures, bolt tightening etc. Thanks for the reply - well appreciated!
  12. Sirk, I fixed it. Thought that was kind of obvious from my post. But very few bikeshops, no matter who they are will leave a first time buyer to set up rear air suspension for their own comfort as this is too sensitive and too easy to damage the shock running pressure too high or too low. So pretty sure this was just a slip up.
  13. I didn't think it was a battle to start off with... it seems a lot of guys on here likes bashing me now for listing my experience...agreed I should have spoken to the shop. As I said it is not possible to take the bike back there to get the problems fixed. So yes; learn from my mistakes - both the fact that you don't say something (even if true) on here if you step on toes, and to speak to your bike shop before saying anything on the hub... especially if the shop in discussion has a major following!
  14. I agree it would have helped to phone them - in this case though, she bought the bike Thursday, I only saw the bike on Saturday and she moved to PE Monday morning. She bought the bike to take along as she does not know a lot of people there she wanted to have a decent bike to ride at least - I don't see how they would be able to do anything about it. JKP - it is a good price yes, but Kroff cycles could have done the same bike for R13k excl the pedals, helmet and tubeless. I don't want to offer up good personalized service for good prices - given this could have been a 1 in a 100 case - but still, what would they do if that little link bolt fell away and she crashed coming down Canary in Jonkers and got badly hurt - or the frame/bearings/shock got damaged because of the bolts dropping out? I am not saying it is the norm, I am saying it is an unpleasant experience.
  15. Unfortunately I am not the happiest CWC client; but due to getting a mondo burn here - I will adjust to make amends... My lady friend went there willing to spend quite a bit of hard earned cash on a brand new bike last week and they happily sold her the bike. She bought the Scott Spark 60 in lime green/white/black - with a couple of accessories for R15k. A good price considering the shop did a tubeless conversion pre-sale and she got a helmet, pedals and shoes all inclusive in this price. She went in the morning paid for the bike and arranged to collect it the afternoon when all is sorted as you would with a new bike. She collected the bike, girl by herself putting all her trust in what I thought was a decent LBS. She got home, kitted up and took off to Jonkershoek for a ride. being new to mountain biking, she assumed everything was in order with the bike and had a fairly pleasant ride. I went over the next day and immediately realized the bike was not set up properly. Here is my concern - other than the tubeless conversion, they did not have a mechanic anywhere near that bike. - The rear suspension was set up for an 80-90kg rider - she is small - so no suspension movement on the rear triangle, very little on the front. I am around the 76kg mark and with me on the bike the suspension barely sagged, and this is not due to magic Scott suspension design, this is because the shock was over inflated even for me. - The fork preload was wound all the way to positive/hard. - the top link between the shock and frame was not bolted on - the allen bolts supposed to be torqued to 5hm - was not tightened in any way - the one was 5 full turns out - as in turning with your hand, no tools needed - meaning one more ride and 'good bye bolt'. - The tubeless setup was decent but once again - inflated to over 3 bar. I know you inflate the tyres hard to get the tubeless setup to set - bet then either deflate pre hand over - or instruct as to what pressures would be good for someone of the buyer's weight - I did a once over the bike with my multi-tool and found quite a few bolts that was not even remotely tightened as they should be - I don't believe in over tightening and even with a micro-multi tool you could tighten these without any strain. - The center lock on the front rotor was loose PSS's should be the norm with all new bikes. a PRE SALE SERVICE - it takes a couple of minutes, and saves the new bike owner countless headaches! I should have phoned the shop before posting this, but the circumstances in this case also meant that the bike is no longer within service distance. I am not saying the shop is useless or slips up a lot, this might be 1 in 100, unfortunately it leaves you with an unpleasant taste in your mouth.
  16. He took quite a shot, but luckily he's as tough as that bullet and will be back on a bike by the weekend I think. Here's a better shot of his bike - from Bos' post: Also, would love to know where these bikes disappear to, I mean you cant just hide expensive top of the line bikes...

  19. I should not actually have posted pics of my bike with the flagpole...I just popped it in the bike when I bought it...my feet would not touch the pedals if I actually managed to get up there... I would love to slam it and use the bike for more all mountain riding, but Paarl has a lot of climbs; if you want to ride any trails, you need to get up them. The Fuji is staring at a new paintjob...the choices, the choices!

  22. Hey guys and ladyguys, I am a typical boy with toys kind of person...loves anything with wheels. Here are my 2 current favorites. I cant leave a bike stock, so none of my bikes ever are...unfortunately I have no way of justifying spending too much money on my bikes, so the parts are carefully chosen firstly for function/price, secondly for style (but it's a damn close second).Big smile The specs: Trailmonster: Mongoose Teocali 09 Frame w Fox RP23 Rockshox RVLTN 426 oil/coil Syncros FLR DS23 rims on BeOne 10mm t/a hubs Smallblock 8 rear and I cant remember what tire I have in front.
