  1. in response to Steve074.... For organizers of races to even try and get road closure is a mission! Ask the organizers of Berge en Dale, although they finally got permission for semi road closure after 14 years!! Metro are not keen at all, as this requires huge manpower from metro, although I am not sure of costs.
  2. this was due to the whole bunch of riders, maybe about 20 cyclists, all being on the wrong side of the white line. Actually, not just slightly over the white line, but on the opposite side of the road, in that yellow line! When are cyclists going to understand that the white line, or center of the road is at the limit of safety? It is mentioned at MANY races about the white line, but nothing seems to get done. Okay, there is a whole new debate!!
  3. It is with great sadness, that the organizers of the annual USN BEKKER BUNDU BASH, hosted by Westgate Wheelers, <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> have had to cancel the event this year!! The date was set for 18th August 2007, but due to various ?logistical? problems, the event has been cancelled. On behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to thank USN, <?:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Bekker High School, Esmed Medical Services and Don Deeb of Warthogs Bush Camp for their tremendous support over the last five years. We will endeavor to get this prestigious event back for 2008, and will utilize the various mediums available to announce dates, etc.
  4. and then there is the dangerous Hendrik Potgieter, which some air head has decided does not need an emergency lane, as the traffic congestion has worsened. Doesn't matter how careful you are, it will be some other idiot that will whack into you. Cervelo, bud, I have also had numerous incidents along Ontdekker, with 'incompetent motorists' not knowing where to turn, or in such a rush, swapping lanes, driving like the air heads they are.
  5. she used to ride for Westgate Wheelers, then licenced with United Wheelers. And she can definitely give it gears.
  6. me in YY, aiming for 3, will settle for anything better than 3h30. Serves me right for doing sub-6 in 2003 and 2004. Did the MTB thing last year, the Cherry Festival in Ficksburg. This year, dodging the T-shirt and tekkie brigade.
  7. did the Krooz on saturday, on my trusty hardtail Gerrie Visser. What a lekker ride, that is until the last 10km. Took some strain after the last waterpoint, but managed to get myself home. Sunday, a mate and myself had decided on doing the tandem bit, with our sons as stokers! What a lekker Krooz. The first bit of dirt was interesting, and saw one poor dude do a face plant. Enjoyed the time with our sons, and was mighty impressed with my mate and son, who pedalled up the boulder after the last water point!! Congrats to the organisers on a excellent race, and will be back next year.
