  1. All the Gravity - Life GT AL1 and AL2 bikes arrived yesterday. Did a huge build session last night.
  2. Liquidice78 - I have just been through this whole excercise in getting sponsors for our Downhill Team. In most cases the sponsors wont come looking for you, you need to go looking for them. An absolute must is a good proposal that you can submit to the sponsor that highlights you past and current achievements. Remember that the potential sponsor will be making some sort of investment or conribution that will always cost him money, be that in supplying funds or products, he is still giving out money. He will want to know what his return on his investment is in sponsoring you. You need to highlight what events you will be competeing in, expected competitor numbers, spectator numbers and how the event can create exposure for his brand. probably the most important aspect is what exposure you can give and create for him. Chat to newspapers and get them to post results of the events you compete in, create a Facebook page where you can post race results, photo's etc and get as many people as you know to 'like' your page. I can go on and on and you will be happy to know that there are sponsors out there who will help you, you just have to show them how you going to in a proposal. A very important mindset when approaching sponsors is - not what your sponsor can do for you, but what you can do for your sponsor. Good luck!!
  3. Different bikes for different folks. On the day i rode the GT Fury, i also test rode the Morewood Makulu and Kona. Didnt hate the Morewood or Kona, they just didnt feel right under me. The GT Fury felt perfect, therfore have 10 on order for the team.
  4. Full retail on the Fury AL1 is R24995.00
  5. The first 2012 Fury AL1 for the new 2012 team arrived and i am loving it. The rest will be here end of November. Big thanks to Nigel Hicks for letting me ride his GT. That was the deciding factor to us chosing the GT's. Big thanks to Omnico and Leigh's Cycle Centre for all their assistance with the bikes. Cant wait for the 2012 season to start.
  6. Dress for the crash!! I ride DH so it may be an overkill for XC. Im one of the few that wears a chest protector and long pants for DH. I wear the usual knee guards etc and my upper torso has been saved many times by the chest protector during those nasty moments in the rock gardens.
  7. To paint similar to ours will be in region of R1500-R2000-00.
  8. Pappa Bear - I can paint any helmet. My D2 was a carbon and wanted to retain some of the carbon look. DMC007 - You can send your helmet to me to paint. I have received helmets from Germany to paint and sent them back with no hassles.
  9. Ha ha ha ....... I have painted many TLD's.
  10. Thanks. Will get our team photographer to take some better quality pics tomorrow at our DH practise session.
  11. Got back into custom helmet painting after a few years off. These are our TLD D2 helmets that I painted. The blue / white helmet was a D2 Carbon to which I retained the carbon on the dark areas of the helmet. Turn around time is around 2 weeks for a full painted helmet. Everything is painted in (except for name and helmet logos) and covered with thick layers of clear for a final finish that looks and feels like a lightbulb. Sorry for quality of pics - taken with BlackBerry. http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu13/lawrencehenning/DHLHHelmets.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu13/lawrencehenning/LHHelmet.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu13/lawrencehenning/DHHelmet.jpg
  12. Candy apple is a bi-atch to spray (and very expensive) and even harder to touch up. Glitter paint needs plenty clear coat to get it all covered up smooth.
  13. Which colour ? Gold flakes or candy apple red ???
  14. Quote Diepseun - "how much does he charge for a custom paint job on a frame"? The cost depends on what colour you want and how intricate your design is that you want. To custom paint the same as I did our Scott downhill bikes will be in the region of R1000-00.
  15. I have a Scott High Octane 1 which I use for DHI in KZN. I will post pics once i get it back from painting.
  16. I also used Teepol in the early days of my motocross career to clean my race bikes. Recently been using Dirt Devil on my downhill bike and which works much better than Teepol and Prepsol.
  17. Placed my order with CRC last week Tuesday and it arrived at my post office today. I must say they have been pretty good with responding to my emails. I used Parcel Force and tracked the shipment on route. The problem with using DHL is that the parcel goes through a different system and subjected to more handling, customs clearing, customs inspections, receiver queries and inspections and often takes longer than expected. I know this because I work with international cargo on a daily basis. CRC allocate an EE tracking number and when it arrives in SA you can call 0860111502 to get the local tracking number for your parcel.
  18. I dont know if this incident would relate to mine. I drove over a badly repaired roadwork that damaged my tyres and rims to my vehicle. Took photos of damage and scene and contacted the Durban municipality claims department. You must take pics of damage and scene and also try proove that there was no warning of the hazard (roadworks boards etc etc). If it was on a road section (not pavement or off the road) then you have a pretty good case. I have claimed twice and both times they paid me out, but I had to prove that that they were negligent.
