  1. damn, 10 years later and I too have this issue with my brand new titan ('24 rogue dash) bike Tektro rear brakes.
  2. I've also added this layer of security on my iPhone. Tap and hold, menu pops up, select "Require Face ID" - added to all banking, shopping, email apps. Still, I would love to know what phone the victim had and what level of security he had on it.
  3. Is this a route one could do solo (I know a generally accepted rule of thumb is don't do any riding or hiking solo in Cape Town) - but these are fairly well populated on a Saturday morning, so relatively safe? Alternative safe-ish routes in Cape Town one could do solo? CBD & Southern suburbs preferred. Also, I am a beginner, looking to do some light trail / easy routes on an MTB.
  4. Can you share where you got it from and in what color? The yellow one is currently on special for R1600 but I’m not so sure I can pull off that color 😊
  5. Thanks everyone, this works out nicely as I will be in the Bellville / Durbanville area tomorrow and will pop in at the Specialized store there👍
  6. Hi I'm looking to get a helmet, specifically a MIPS approved/certified helmet. I'm looking at the Virginia Tech Bicycle Helmet Ratings (250ish helmets), some helmets have overall mid to low rankings even though they are MIPS. They put a particular helmet (a sample set of 4/5) through series of low and high impact tests. Of the highly ranked helmets I've seen that can be purchased in SA, I'm leaning toward (all in the R1400-R1900ish region): - GIANT REV Comp MIPS Helmet (rated #12 on the list - available from bike-addict) - SCOTT ARX Plus Helmet 2023/2024 - (rated #41, available from bike-addict, sportsmans warehouse) Then there's the TITAN Shredder MIPS MTB Helmet (2024) - available from bike addict and Olympic Cycles in Cape Town, Around R1400-R1500. It is MIPS, but not being on the list is the reason for my question about MIPS = Good helmet (i.e. good protection in the case of low or high impacts) or nah? The Titan's 5-YEAR CRASH REPLACEMENT HELMET WARRANTY is also a key selling point. An example of some MIPS helmets I would have considered to be good given the price, but rankings are average on the list of 250 - FOX Mainframe Mips Helmet (#133 on the list - between R1500 and R1700) - GIRO syntax MIPS (#132 on the list - around R1900+) My knowledge on helmets is very surface level, so if there are more factors to consider besides the above - safety first - (fitment, ventilation, camera mount etc.) happy to hear! Thanks
  7. thanks for the input everyone. If I decided to go new and pump the budget up a bit instead, thoughts about the following? https://www.cyclelab.com/product/1018164-bike-mtb-ht-alu-slvback-stride-deluxe-my23 https://www.cyclelab.com/product/1014413-bike-mtb-ht-alu-scott-aspect-950-my22 https://www.cyclelab.com/product/1017283-bike-mtb-ht-alu-titan-titan-rogue-se2-my23 https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/hardtails/products/titan-rogue-cruz-2024?_pos=26&_fid=83788ccc6&_ss=c https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/hardtails/products/scott-aspect-930-2023?_pos=39&_fid=83788ccc6&_ss=c
  8. Hi all, I'm looking to get myself into a bit of cycling and having read a few articles on this forum, looked at some videos, combined with a personal preference for mountain bikes. From what I've read, a hard-tail is a good place to start with a decent frame (potential) and I can look to upgrade components as I go. Size: I am just over 1.7m+, 80kgs+ and looking like a medium size 29er bike for me. I still have to do the sit-bone measurement thing. Purpose: some leisurely road cycles and maybe the odd gravel trail around Newlands forest (Cape Town) perhaps, but nothing heavy just yet - if it bites hard, I'll look to go full suspension in the future, but not now until I figure out where my preferences eventually lie. Budget: I see second hand might be a good place to start, and I'm budgeting about 10K for now, but can be pushed a little (and/or maybe negotiate some of the prices down based on bike + component condition). Since I do not have the knowledge and experience most forum members have, can you please offer an opinion on some of the bikes seen under Buy & Sell, that have good potential for me as a start point? Some things I picked up from reading to look at: cassette + rust, damage to front shocks, disc brakes, wheels spinning without bearing noise, cracks/damage on the frame, handle bar mount type/rusted pinch bolts etc. Nice to have: dropper post great, tubeless conversion already done. https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/hardtail-mountain-bikes/746257/29er-m-silverback-sola-deore-xtair-shock https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/hardtail-mountain-bikes/759082/merida-bignine-xt-edition-dropper-post https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/hardtail-mountain-bikes/775266/marlin-trek-gen-7-2023 https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/hardtail-mountain-bikes/773700/titan-trail-plus (not a 29er should I even consider?) Thanks
