  1. Hi All My girls are starting to outgrow their 16" and want to get them 20 inch. Any recommendations on which brands you have been happy with. I was leaning away from models with gears. More weight, costs and to go wrong. Do your kids use the gears? My girls are just turned 4 and 5 probably wont use gears for a couple more years.
  2. Any suggestions for going to watch with two little one? If I park along the Cable Station road, will we still get to a good spot. Plumb Pudding will probably too far to get too.
  3. I have just completed a restore on the exact same bike for a friend. Totally worth it. Unfortunately I did not take too many before and after pictures.
  4. Gumboots !!! I few years back the race village was just mud, and tractors were used to pull cars out the car park. Have fun everyone!!
  5. Hi All I have accepted a challenge from a work colleague to help "service" an old Raleigh Bomber 5 speed. Upon deliver, I would like to extend it to more of a restoration project. I full strip and rebuild. The bike is in pretty bad shape from sitting for years and not been services etc. I will post some pictures as I go, if anyone is interested. The biggest challenge I have, is my lack of tools for older bikes. : Would anyone be able to assist in lending me the following tools, which are pretty standard for any old English bicycles from what I understand. 1) 2 notch freehub tool - Park tool FR 2 2) Park tool HCW-11 . From some searching on the interweb, I may be able to get away with an adjustable spanner, but would prefer using the correct tool if possible, to avoid any potential damage. I have looked at making a 2 notch tool, by grinding down an old socket spanner. Again, would prefer the original tool if possible. If I cant do it myself, then I will take it to a bike shop to assist with these two components. But I prefer the challenge of doing it myself. I am happy to compensate in beer. PS, I am in the Milnerton area
  6. Then add consignment stock, shops that don't pay invoices, bikes been used as a spares bin while on consignment .......
  7. From (my limited) experience, the cycling market in SA is tiny. Go visit Eurobike to see just the number of brands most South Africans have never even heard of (of coarse not the Hubbers !) and the number bikes and products at the lower level and commuting market that will not likely ever even arrive on our shores. Yes, we are relatively large in terms high end product, but it is an inverted pyramid, compared to the other larger markets (e.g. more XT components than all the lower versions, where it should be less than 5 % etc). Other markets have the lower end commuting market as their bread and butter, with the high end bikes and components as the cream. Have a look at all the commuting bikes in the Netherlands to see the level of bikes and components (It is not S-Works and XTR). The bread and butter allows shops and agents to cover the high end spares etc, that are costly to carry. Yes, some of the bigger agents do make good money, but most of the smaller guys don't, and more often then not they don''t survive, let alone drive expensive cars .
  8. Yes, I managed to enter 2 x for the 1.3km
  9. For those that are interested. It opened today
  10. Hi, Does anyone have any info on the kiddies Argus this year? The website says entries are closed already....
  11. Isn't DHL just an optomised version of US Postal
  12. I can recommend a cheap plastic balance bike from Shoprite. My daughter had a cheap plastic one, because the one mentioned above where too big at the time. Bought her a Y-Bike for 2nd birthday and she stopped riding because it was too heavy. Went and bought a second slighter bigger plastic bike and loves riding again. I now have a brand new Y-bike sitting in the garage.
  13. Will definitely try make it with the family.
  14. 3 Times, and each time equaled dented card roof and boot, broken bike rack and damage to bike. Luckily no major damage to the frame or forks, just broken cables and shifters.
