  1. I bought a Excocet tandem 2003. Didn't think about chain - for they never break. Argus 2004 - Chain broke after 5 km. Pushed a Tandem with my wife (stoker) for another 5km to the next workshop. Took out 3 links and we went on. At Smithswinkel broke again same spot..... fixed it myself - 30min later. Went on to ou Kaapse Weg (was that year when they stopped the race to hot 40 decrees) Ou kaapse weg - chain broke again..... Pushed another 1km until next workshop - took another link out. With only about 4 gears to choose because of chain damage... we finished the Argus in an embarrassing 6hours. We aimed for 3h30 We were emotionally drained. Check your chain..... DB But - Chain lubrication will not make up any more time. it will make your gear changes better and cause less wear and tear. But a chain is a fixture to the gear you have. 2. the Q - ring is the front big gear blade. on the font gears i've got 3 gears(blades) do you use it only on the big one or all 3?
  3. I'm seeing my shop tomorrow about the Q-ring. Can you only put it on 1 gear or all 3?Decibach2008-02-22 03:28:36
  4. I heard of guys setting there crank 90 degrees apart. How can you keep rhythm together like that? Should the two cranks be 100% aligned?
  5. Would love the Idea of cycling at Kyalami. Imagine riding in Group N. (lol) really sounds nice. Didn't Andrew Mclean ride there in the past, providing training ect.?
  6. first I look at the beats per minute (BPM) It has to be between 80-120 lol. But that's to slow - so I double up on fast tracks. Let the music keep your legs pumping.
  7. Hi Just wondering if we can find out who has the biggest Club rides on weekends. Don't have to be CLUBS as such - maybe even just cyclists getting together and ride? I know that the Saturday morning rides in the South of JHB at the LIDO is well over 50 cyclists every weekend on Saturdays at 07h00. Where else and what times - Cheers DB
  8. I love taking my kids out on MTB - I have a carrier at the back, and when you hit nice gravel roads it's just you, them and the road. They enjoy it as well. Bought the wife a MTB with carrier seat and she takes the other one. This way the whole family are spending time cycling.
  9. Train on MTB Makes you work harder. Like the Idea of just going anywhere. - and safer for you have more road to yourself. But nothing beats that rhythm being kept on a road bike.
  10. I am getting back to things after a 10year being sleg. All I can say is that the races became very expensive... If you go and ride every Weekend you must budget an easy R1000 per month just to have fun.... but you don't.... cause the races are so poorly organized - trucks and cars comes flying past you... You're concentrating levels are on them and not enjoying the race. Even Training is very tense every day ... motorists just don't have any respect for cyclists anymore. Some of them try to see how near they can past you. But I love cycling.... and although the numbers at races go down... entries into clubs rise year after year... and you see cyclists every where on weekends, being road or MTB. Best sport there is.... I love it. DB
  11. Hi Does anybody know where a bunch of tandem riders meet in Gauteng area for morning rides or weekend rides ect. thanks
  12. No - we love speed (downhills), and even on flat roads it's amazing. We cant understand why uphills should be a problem.. must be something to do with your rhythm together. We are new on Tandem and starting to practice how to stand together. Thanks for all info.... Lucky for me I'm not the stoker
  13. Hi Guys Does anyone perhaps know where one could find any Tandem Training tips? Did find Andrew's tips on internet... but any more info would help Thanks
