  1. does anybody have a clip of the highlights of the race from the break up chappies to the end?
  2. From Twitter: Argus Cycle Tour done! What a cool ride/race. Congrats to @darylimpey on gettin' 3rd. Wind was howling out there. 5:21 AM Mar 14th via UberTwitter Reply Retweet
  3. yip, weight on the wheels is the worst. biggest upgrade would be lighter wheels, not only gravity weight, but inertia to get rotational speed up as well, that's why light wheels are a super upgrade.
  4. ha ha, the basic story is, if your combined body and bike weight is lighter, you will use less energy getting up the hills OR use the same energy as before and get up the hills faster.forum_images/post_button_smiley.gif
  5. P = w/t so then lets assume a perfect enviroment etc for both instances many variables not taken into account senario 1 bike 8kg's rider 70kgs vertical ascent 200meters time 300 seconds w = f x d work done = (70+8)9.8 x 200 = 152880 J P = w / t power = 152880 / 300 = 509.6 watts senario 2 (we reduce the weight of the bike to 6.5kgs) bike 6.5kg's rider 70kgs vertical ascent 200meters time 300 seconds w = f x d work done = (70+6.5)9.8 x 200 = 149940 J P = w / t power = 149940 / 300 = 499.8 watts OR we can say that you reqire 2% less energy expediture to achieve the same time up the hill
  6. The benefit of a light frame is that power meters and other "heavier" accessories can be added to the bike, and still have a sub 6.8kg bike. Mark my words, within 2 -3 years, we will have sub 500g frames, just a stiff as the current ones. Why, because they can. Maybe they would even look at disc brakes for road bikes?
  7. stewie, looks awesome, thanks Thys
  8. Stewie911 - post pics as well. I would like to see what they looked like once fitted. Were did you buy them and how much? thanks Thys

  11. Johannes, what is the source of the power output sensor for the VDO Z3? Hub, crank, ?
  12. thanks guys, your comments ROCK! Johannes, the graph looks hectic man!! 180HR, I'd be dead if did those intervals! The Break, i had to smile. it's typical for me to have the gadgets, but I really want to improve, and not only have the bling to match the bakkie! Aren't you a bit of a gadget man yourself?!
  13. hi guys, looking around at costs of power meters, my eye has fallen on the polar RS800 with the WIND polar power meter. The costs seem reasonable (compared to others) and the cheapest option out there at the moment for power measuring. Does anybody have a similar setup or that exact setup? Have you had good/bad experience with this? Anybody else have comments? They will be much appreciated. Thys
  14. tankman is right, the only real solution if it's out of warranty is to perform open heart surgery on the unit.

  21. Hi Hubbers, I would like so advice on power measurement equipment. From my limited research, it seems quite expensive but seems to be the way to go to improve performance. What is the best way to go with regards to: which product measures power the best / cheapest?fit only on the trainer or on the bike as well?any cost effective solutions you guys have found which work? (trainer / bike) thanks and regards Thys
  22. very nice! hope you really enjoy it. remember, there is no end to the very expensive upgrade cycle, so rather be happy with what you have and enjoy a castle every now and again.forum_images/post_button_smiley.gif
  23. cycling is very much a personal satisfaction thing and most of us cycle for the enjoyment of it. we are not out there to win the prize money etc, it's for personal fulfilment and achievement. I personally half died on the DC and at the last big hill outside swellendam, my team car offered to take me to the top of the hill and for me to ride from there. They told me I was dilerious? and looked in a very bad way. I said no, I don't want a lift, because then I would know I didn't finish it. I waited 10 minutes and pushed that 1.4kms up that last hill and cramped and free wheeled home. I can say that I did it on my own steam. That means something to me and those I tell. My point is, for that guy/girl who cheated, (and I am sure there were a few) they only cheated themselves and we should let that take from the joy and achievement we get out of cycling. So I wouldn't recommend a "name and shame" for us to feel better about ourselves. Lets just go out there and enjoy our cycling and be satisfied that we have achieve something very special to finish a DC on our own steam.
