  1. That is a very valid point...DON'T slow motorist down. Weather that is like you said at a stop street or Traffic light or riding abreast.
  2. Sorry you are wrong, you are not supposed to STAY riding in the yellow lane...you should move there, let someone pass and move back. Driving there or riding there continuously is illegal and I have seen Traffic cops dishing out fine for exactly that.
  3. Thank you, 2 people who understands me
  4. Whatever.....until you have riden on my route with me...I dont think you will be able to understand....... Edit: And what do you guys to improve the attitude of the REST of SA wrt to adhering to RULES? Don't answer, because I know = not much as it is to difficult = we rather come to the hub and complain about cyclist.
  5. I am not asking others to do what I do. I gave you a reason why I cross some red lights, because I feel is it SAFER to do so than stop. At some lights I stop and wait as it is the safer option. I am saying that people in SA will HATE all the time, and today it is cyclist, tomorrow runners, then whatever next. How come you comment and one aspect of my post, lets remove the part where I told you what I did and look at the amount of laws being broken by motorists. Let’s say I did as you say, stopped at all the lights etc. What would your response have been to all the motorists doing the things I saw this AM? My point is that we in SA are fighting a losing battle(I am not saying stop the fight) I say we are LOOSING...we have no assistance from the authorities, fellow road users etc. People do what they want on the roads (leave cyclist out of this for a moment) You cannot tell me that they are acting like this because of cyclists. THAT IS MY POINT!
  6. Well done for spotting that, I am still learing....and can only learn if you kindly point it out. I is only getting the lend /borrow fing right sometimes now.
  7. I did not say become part of the problem. I say 2 things 1 = Motorist have c@rp attitudes. 2 = Our laws do not cater for cyclist and sometimes we have to do things to stay alive(is Jump onto a pavement where there is sign saying NO Cyclist) 3 = Stop being so harsh on fellow cyclist
  8. Whatever.....
  9. So right.....
  10. I keep saying this and you dont get it...even if you remove cyclist you will not improve the attitude of drivers....get it?
  11. Yes at you and Wannabe for always saying that we can improve the image of cyclist....I dont think it is possible. I said, look at how the motorist behave WITHOUT cyclist around.....bunch off idiots...so my question was "if you remove all cyclist from the roads for a year" will the motorist behave = NO. South African do not respect normal rules or each other.
  12. I did not say it is ok to do so....I am saying that the Motorist in SA are a lot of lawless, respectless idiots....and then we moan and say we want to clean up our image?
  13. Let me explain....but remember CARS DO NOT see a cyclist You get to a light 2 lanes in each direction, 2 lanes crossing those.....left turn and right turn lanes.... Now if you want to go staight you can not be in the far left as someone busy talking on their cell is bound to decide at the last moment they want to turn left and clip. So you are in the go straight lane...and if you start riding when the cars go, you are halfway over the intersection when someone decides to swap lanes..you get clipped. So what I do at some intersections is get to the light and slowdown...stop if traffic is crossing my path, wait...now light is red for me, and going red for cars crossing my path...then I go slowly checking for traffic. There is a about a 4-6 second "gap" when all lights are red and then the arrows come on...so I used this clear the intersection and get to a safe place on the other side. But people view this as NOT STOPPING.
  14. +1
  15. I was not part of the problem this morning just an observer? And stil they do what they want. So how are you going to change the attitude of your fellow south Africans ?
  16. 100% correct. That is what I mean. This counties laws are a joke when it comes to enforcing.
  17. Not at all what I am saying. I say if I feel it is SAFER to go though a red light, don't judge me or tell me I make motorist irate. That are allteady. I am not saying to break the law, I say that due to the layout of certain roads I HAVE to cross when all cars ate waiting for the light else I get killed. I am also saying that we are wasting our time posting on the hub how cyclist irate motorist. They are lawless irate and irritated allready and I do not think that cyclist are making it any worse
  18. It is the lack of respect on the road! On my commute this morning I noticed the following traffic/rules/laws being broken. 3 women talking on their cell phones 2 Red traffic lights being ignored 1 car swapping lanes over solid line without indicator usage 1 car overtaking into oncoming traffic (there were more but these are the worst ones that stood out) That excluded the non-seatbelt wearing, general driving like idiots. Now if motorist do not respect each other, or the laws of the country....they will NOT respect us. So I stand by my statement, riding on the roads is a survival game and we should ride the way WE feel safe. If that means I go over a red light when ALL other cars are stationary I am doing it. If/When someone shout at me here is my response..."Sorry!!!" If you had to remove all cyclist from the road for a year you will still have the same drivers(that do not respect anyone else) that will shout, hoot etc, they will just find another “target” It will NEVER change as long as PEOPLE in this country do not respect each other or the laws.
  19. By entering a race surely you have PAID for the result?
  20. I understand that, but why do you have to be a member of PPA to see your time online once you have a chip and paid for the race?
  21. What you guys forget is that PPA does NOT oragnise races....they merely faciclityate....they do not check that they organiser has enough water tables, marchals etc. PPA advises and that does the timing...that is it!
  22. When you are new to cycling, and you pay to enter a race, pay for a temp number, pay for a chip etc....Why is your time NOT displayed? Why do you have to become a member of PPA to see your time?
  23. agree with that part
  24. How does AC "know" it came from a steak?
