  1.

However, I am even less thrilled by "Chainmail" using a public forum to discuss internal club matters. :cursing: Chainmail, have you bothered to discuss this with the club committee yet? As I understand they are quite open to discuss this and to explain their reasons.

Why can people not discuss this? As for the "explain their reasons" seems like the "club" was not consulted in the 1st place and the commitee is acting on their own.

  2. That's crazy!! The DC is R375 entry and it's almost double the distance!!!

Any road closure? Any water points ?

    Co

Compare apple as with apples man.

But yes it is still a lot of money.

If you don't use the wAterpoints maybe do a 2 nd round or a half round and stop and use them :-)

Or suggest to the organizers that people with different finishing times get a different discount. Sub3 you get 50% off , sub 3:30 40%,sub 4 30% and the rest pay full as they are using the road for longer?

  3. How xan this impact damage be from the fall as clearly the damaged part is INSIDE a protected casing? Being the lowers.

The report does not say that the oil caused the impact damage.

To get to this part you clearly have to open the fork.

I can not believe that people here say just move on and accept this????

I bet you a techie dropped this part while servicing the fork.

Maybe Johan can explain here how a fall can cause THAT type of damage inside the fork ?

    Johan??

  4.

because greeting someone is acknowledging the fact that they are doing something that you love - its like saying "hey buddy - good on you!"

you must be great company at a party

Then why do people come and moan for pages when you are not greeted, or not wear a helmet.. It is not anyone else's problem.

What he does, wearing a helmet or not paying his tax.

  5.

and those talking on their phones and those eating and those scratching their balls ....the list goes on. The OP did not word it very nicely but the fact remains that cyclists have a bad name on the road adn WE can do something about it - one of those ways is to make people aware that when people see you without a helmet, then that means you have no regard for the law. The more we make an issue of disobeying the law the more it will stick in cyclists minds that it is not a good thing and then it will stop. Individually by making a cyclist aware, I can do something - not so easy for taxi drivers and phone talkers and ball scratchers

    edit: edited text

You live in a dream world!

This argument is as stupid as moaning about cyclist not greeting. I don't know you, why should I greet? I don't greet everyone else who drives a car!

  6. i would say the point is - in a game of squash only you and your opponent see if you are wearing safety glasses. An adult riding on a public road advertising to all and sundry that its ok to ride without a helmet is a plonker in my book too.

There is a chap here in maritzburugh who also rides without a helmet - he is very friendly, but i have told him he is not setting a very good example

Hope you also speak to the taxis for setting a bad example

  7. Well - now that I have everyones back up (except the mtb'ers)... :whistling:

This morning at 07:00 whilst driving home from squash - I rode past some roadie probably in his 50's riding on Michelle Avenue (JHB South) which is a very busy road - WITHOUT a helmet!!

I think he's mad - does he not hear about all the cycling deaths or perhaps he thinks he is taxi / car / bus / truck proof..??..

    How is this your problem?

How many mothers have you moaned at recently driving with their kids not buckled up?

  8. The only thing to remember when going 3x10/9 to 2x10 is that you will lose range. It's your choice to lose that range top or bottom. This should be based on skill level and riding terrain.

If you live in Tzaneen - keep that 3x10.

If you live in Bloemfontein a 1x10 should suffice.

Like I've said many many times - I don't see the advantage of 2x10. Makes no sense to me.

You dont loose gears. You just start riding differently. This spinning at 150 rmp doing 1.3 km/h is for the birds anyway.....2 x 10 just makes you use a little more power like on a road bike and you keep your momentum.....using a bit more mucle but gonig uphile at 4 rather than 1.3 km/h is much better for the technical stuff anyway.

You dont like it cause you have not tried it.

  9. If someone has been arrested then it can be public knowledge so NO reason to withhold the persons name.

Naas why not warn gunners about Gumtree also?

You accuse TheV off buying something that might be stolen? How sure are you that EVERYTING you have bought in life is legit. Not just cycling stuff but anything from wood for the braai to speaker system?

As people trading on the hub we can only do our best to not buy something that obviously looks to good to be true.

Your post has NO value to the hub whatsoever.

  10. Oh please. Beach volleyball!! Sure it's a fun passtime on a hot Summer's day, but don't fool yourself into thinking it is remotely close to the heritage of the Olympics (remember we are coming from gladiators and chariot races) and skill requirement of a gymnast. Maybe we should have beer pong next.

So what "skill" is there in running the 100m?

  11. The Olympics lost it's cred ages ago when it allowed jokes for sports like ping pong and beach volleyball become considered. when you take a look at the life of a competitive diver or gymnast, the level of skill and dedication demanded far outweighs these 'sports'. What's next? Olympic darts or hackey sack?

    You can not be serious?

So what is cycling doing there then???

  12. I am asking, cause no matter what gets done with this thread, the Mod team is damned if they do and damned if they dont.

As the Op of this topic, which way would you like it to go ?

I dont really care anymore, flip a coin, do what you want....like Dangle said already your position has gone to your head and that is what I wanted to point out...achieved that .....

  13. The Avatar used by fandacious showed as your avatar when I made the post. If it was a Hub problem I apologise. If not, you alone then know if you did it or not. Consider yourself warned.

Must have been your non-Apple device you use....

I did not change my avatar, (EDIT) been the same since I joined

  14. Hi Niner,

Spinnekop has already given an answer to your questions, but hopefully this will provide some clarity.

Slowbee is simply carrying out his duties as a moderator. He is one of the more active moderators in terms of carrying out actions (deleting, closing, warning, etc.). In most cases where we receive reports on content, it's a clear cut scenario which we've dealt with before and the actions to be carried out are straight forward.

In other cases input from the moderation team is required, we'll discuss the best course of action and one of us will carry out this action (as was the case with the Batman thread and many others).

The ASG thread was a simple case, a request we quite often receive and Slowbee's actions were spot on.

Often members post a thread and realise it was either out of line or in some way unnecessary and request removal.

I agree, in some cases the question / comment and ensuing discussion might be of value to others and we may look to retain the thread or at least portion of it. Based on the responses in the thread and the short period of time it had been open that did not seem necessary in this case. A thread with more than a page of valuable discussion may be a different story.

We do endeavour to save a topic from deletion or closure by removing individual posts, however this is not always possible. In some cases closure of a thread (or even deletion) is necessary and we reserve the right to do so.

Not every one will agree with the actions and by all means question them, but do so with some respect and in a constructive manner.

    I hope provides some clarity.

    Regards,

    Matt

    Like Scotty said!

If you guys were applying the rules then you should have locked or deleted this one for going off-topic?

No need to clarify or reply.....
