  1. Oh yes and it is the red ones.
  2. Hi DB I've got a set of coolstop brake pads lying in the garage. Still in the packet. You can try them and see...
  3. This could have been my story, except that I decided that I was going to balance at the robot and then decided that I was going to clip out after all, but then I was already too slow and too close to the pavement and was more concerned about scratching my wheel than falling. I took the impact with my body and there was only a little scratch on my left crank. I'll never forget their laughing faces in that taxi!
  4. Is there anyone who can honestly say that he/she has never ever fallen where the fall had something to do with not clipping out?
  5. Found it! http://www.davincitandems.com/dv2.html I doubt that people in SA would have it though. So those people must have changed the timing. Maybe they set it 90 degrees apart. I've heard some people do that.
  6. There's been a post a while back or a friend sent me a link, can't remember (will try to find it) where some tandem manufacturer made independent tandem cranks. The stoker could coast while the pilot is pedaling and vice verca. In the reviews people who tried it said you won't go back to fixed cranks after you've experienced it.
  7. Well at least it?s sorted out now and the probability that it would happen again is statistically very low. All of the best for the Fast One. I wish I could, but unfortunately I won?t be able to make it this year.
  8. Sounds Scary! How long have you had the new tandem? Are you planning to do the Fast One?
  9. So Big H... Did they have it in stock?
  10. To be honest I?ve never considered importing bicycle parts. It sounds like a good idea though. If you can maybe place a post on the hub two weeks in advance of placing the order and a list of suppliers hubbers can order from, I?m sure there will be some interest. Maybe someone from Gauteng must take the same initiative I?m sure it will save on courier costs.
  11. Hi Chris. I was fortunate to get hold of an old Hansome tandem for 2K, saw one advertised for R1750 a while back. I also bought it to see if it will work for my wife and I. Our baby is 3 months old now and she's still breastfeeding. We haven't gone for a ride yet, but I'm doing the 94.7 with my brother in law in it. Did the Berg en Dale, Harmony, Argus and Vasbyt (151km) on a Titan tamdem this year with a buddy of mine. With him being the owner of the tandem I was always the stoker. What increadible fun! Two is much more fun! I'll let you know how the Hansom compares to the Titan in a race. The Titan has three chain rings in front and the Hansom don't. I'm hoping that by rinding q-rings we'll be able to defy gravity and won't need the granny gear... It might be worth while spending money on a decent tandem. Like Sandstone said, you'll get your money back if you sell.
  12. I have tremendous respect for Andrew. Andrew McLean and Graham Cronje won the Panorama Tour an a Tandem this year... Happy Birthday Andrew! Wishing you many blessed and happy cycling years!

Here?s an accurate test Get two top cyclists and two identical tandems. Build a cage to cover the chain rings on each tandem so that the riders can?t see what type of chain rings are being used. Fit one tandem with normal 39, 53 standard chain rings and the other with q-rings of the same size. Don?t let the riders in on the objective of the test, they might be biased. Let the riders climb a hill of approximately two kilometers as fast as they can. Use the ?old? stop watch (or more advanced timing equipment if available) and don?t make the times available to the rides until the test had been concluded. Conduct the test over twelve days at the same time each day and let the riders use the other tandem every alternate day so that they don?t recognize a difference and can perform the same each day. It would be interesting to compare the results of this test with the results of the power meter test. Without this test the study would not be conclusive.
  14. Here's a picture of my Hansom. It's still the picture that the friendly hubber I bought it from sent to me. My wife and I still have to have our first ride. She's had our second son two weeks ago to the day. I bought it for social riding. First have to see if it works for us. Be on the lookout for us in next year's Argus.

How bad is klapperkop? Has anyone climbed Golf Club Terrace past the Checkers Hyper? It's not that long, but it's a horror! I've climbed Kruger's dorp hill and that is mild.
