  1. I got the 661 kneepads and am very happy with them. I used to use the 661 vegi elbo guards, they are fairly lightweight so nice for all mountain use now I have full body armour which is better suited to DH.
  2. I have looked on crc. I will probably end up getting something from them if I cant find something second hand locally.
  3. This weekend I crashed at urban assult and broke my left hand rear break leaver.I have a spare hayes 9 front break so I am looking for one of the following: 1) A new shimano left hand bread leaver 2) Hayes 9 break hose (long enough for a rear break) 3) To swap my hayes 9 front break for a rear break of comparable value, I will also have a spare shimano caliper and break hose and a broken leaver for spares to throw into the deal if someone is interested in a swap. I will check what shimano caliper I have on the bike. It is probably an entry level one though. The hayes 9 uses has a flip flop leaver that can be mounted for left or right handed use and the pads are virtually brand new. I replaced the pads just befor I found a avid code 5 front break at a good price.
  4. Hey RiyaDH and Pitstop. I have heard there is a shuttle day in Paarl on Sunday so might head through to that else Ill got hold of you guys depending what time I can ride.
  5. Hey if you keen to ride in Tokai on Saturday morning or Sunday this weekend LMK, Im keen for a ride.
  6. What is the points break down for placeing at province and SA champs?
  7. Thanks for the heads up. If the weather is bad I wont be there but was wondering whats it like to push up the track?
  8. Hey Just wondering who is thinking about going to contermanskloof for the shuttle day this sunday?
  9. I remember reading about this topic applied to track cycling years ago, might of been in the cyclists training bible. What the author said was that track sprinters like to run small front chain ring / small rear sprocket as it feels more responsive while the track time trial specialists tended to run larger front chain rings and rear sprockets. The argument for the larger front chain ring/ rear sprocket combination was that it was more efficient as the chain links did not have to bend as far as they moved around the chain ring and sprockets. Not sure if you will find any real information to back this up though.
  10. I can get lenses of CRC, I already have one spare. The shops I popped into in cape town all said they stocked lenses for the goggles but did not have any in stock at the time. They also mentioned they were struggeling to get the oakley goggles and lenses from the supplier so I desceded against that option. It will probably take the same time to get the stuff shipped in that to wait for the local shops to get stuff in stock that they dont normally store.
  11. In the end I got some No fear goggles of CRC for R200 and bought a dual vented lense for R100. No import duties charged luckilly. I have used them for one ride and they seemed to work well. I guess ill wait and see how well they last.
  12. Hey Me and some friends are meeting at tokai tomorow at 9 to do some DH riding. Anyone is free to join if they want.
  13. Just saw this on gumtree it is old but a cool way to get into DH. Might even be an upgrade from my ralie RDH 7 come to think of it but i have spent enough money on my bikes lately. http://capetown-westerncape.gumtree.co.za/c-Stuff-for-Sale-sports-bicycles-fitness-Giant-DH-Team-Downhill-bike-W0QQAdIdZ278163874
  14. I got the old magura Julies ( I think 2002) on my XC bike. They are still the low pressure ones and I am happy with them. I should point out that I have not riden with any other brakes on a xc bike though. All I have to compare them to are the hayes 9s I have on my DH bike.
  15. Hey guys. Thanks for the inpu it is very usefull.
  16. Hi I will need to replace the tyres on my DH bike soon. Was just wondering what tires you guys are using / have used and what you though of them. On a slightly different note what tyre pressure do you guys typically run? I do most of my riding at tokai. Thanks in advance for the input.
  17. That sucks. Hope replacing it does not take to long.
  18. Cool Guys. Thanks for the advice. I want to try the road caset some time. Will just make getting uphill a bit more chalenging. Anyone know if you can run a shimano derailur with sram shifters? At the moment I have a sram x7 derailer on the back tith x5 shifters, I think. There are just more places I can get shimano stuff. Anyway it is not an urgent upgrade at the moment.
  19. Hey Noob question but I need to replace the derailer on my DH bike. Which cage length should I get? I would guess a short cage should work, and be less likely to get caught in stuff when I'm riding but thought I better check. Thanks in adveance for the advice / opinions.
  20. Hey guys. How was the race? I went through for practice on saturday but descided to skip the race. had a lot of other stuff to do and I felt I got my moneys worth of riding in on saturday. Anyway just wondering how the race went and what the final turnout was like.
  21. Hey guys Who is planning on going to the race this weekend? I will probably go through. Never ridden the course at Eden, anyone know what it is like?
  22. No I ended up replacing the clutch on my motorbike instead. Hopefully I will make it out this weekend though.
  23. Bleak only got this now. Good to hear you riding again after your fall the other day.
  24. Hey I'm keen to do some more DH riding this weekend. Im free saturday and sunday morning this weekend. LMK if you are keen. From Melch
  25. Hey Guys I am looking at getting some goggles for DH. So far I have looked on chain reaction cycles. I was told I should try and get Oakleys as I will be able to get the replacement lenses quite easily. Anyway the options available in my price range are the Oakly O frame, Proven, Proven otg and L frames. I was wondering if anyone has used any of these and what you thought of them. I have a bel helmet. Not sure how that compares to others with respect to the goggles fitting properly. I read somewhere on the hub there is no import duties on goggles, have any of you guys imported a set befor and know if this is true? Anyway thanks in advance for the advice.
