  1. We aiming to have a 70km open this year. Nobody owns the club or makes any profit out of it so we operating on a tight budget. Give us a shout next time you up and I can see if we can hook you up with some locals.
  2. After a year of hard work, minor setbacks and awesome support from the community we have opened our trails. We are a community project with an aim to not only offer top class trails, but also to create employment in our area. We currently have two previously unemployed locals now employed full time as trail builders. Our aim is to increase tourism into our beautiful area and in turn jobs in the tourism industry. Below is the announcement from the club: Cathkin Trails, a community project, has opened it's first fully marked 18km trail. The trail starts and finishes at the Okhahlamba buildings next to the airfield. Trail fees are R50 per day or R200 for a weeks pass. Park and Ride venues are: The Nest Hotel, Ardmore Guest Farm, The Valley Bakery, Drakensberg Brewery. Guest Sign and Ride venues are Goodersons Monks Cowl and Champagne Sports Resort. A map and rules will be at these points. All riders MUST sign an indemnity, pay their fees and receive a wrist band at the establishments mentioned above. No pay - no ride. Please ensure all others you encounter on the trail have a wrist band. Problems on the trails can be reported using the mySOS app or at the above establishments. We are not stopping there. In January we will be working on phase 2 and phase 3 will follow shortly after. Phase 2 will link onto phase 1 and bring in some untouched plantations, grueling climbs and exciting single track. Phase 3 will also be linked and open up some stunning views as you ride at the base of the little berg. The fee will include all trails, there are multiple entry points and park and ride facilities if you are not staying with one of our sponsors. We will be opening up sections to be named should any corporate like to get their brand out there. Please feel free to contact me. We are a bunch of passionate cyclists and trail runners who are also go getters. Let me know if you would like to organize training camps or even corporate events in the area. We have the facilities and also access to top cyclists who will guide and coach your clients, staff or friends. See you on the trails
  3. Chat to http://www.capecoffeebeans.co.za, they are very knowledgeable, I get all my coffee through them.
  4. The picture was a last port of call as I had no slips when the assessor came around. Haha, if I had known this thread was going the insurance route I would have added a lot more detail in the original post. A couple lessons learnt: If your frame gets replaced remember to take down the new serial number. Make sure you have pictures for just in case. Make sure the cops come to the scene when you reclaim what is yours ( although I am certain I would have been stabbed)
  5. The bike was under household, the long story is the frame has been replaced due to the original cracking so I couldn't go into bike shop records, I did however provide insurance with the bike shops and the importers number should they want to contact them, but they wanted a pic of me on the bike to prove ownership. It wasn't just my bike that was stolen, our garage was broken into and they helped themselves - we did get paid for items that we have the slips for. this is not a go at the insurance companies - I should have had separate insurance for my bike I didn't go into details on the insurance part as the aim of the post is "I got my bike back".
  6. Social Media is a dangerous thing and I cannot afford a lawsuit for slander. I just intended this post to be a happy I got my bike back one, I know I was totally in the wrong. I had the Police hammer this into me. I don't support vigilantism either, it was just a case of I can't afford another bike and the heat of the moment I took it back, knowing 110% it was my bike. Please provide more details, that is an awesome idea.
  7. I learnt the lesson the hard way. I have since sorted security out at home and chain my bike down in a locked and alarmed garage. I never want to go through this again. Like I mentioned before, it has taken months for this to get sorted out to the point it is my bike and can post this. I now have the frame number and what parts are on it (that is what saved me - my brother and dad have pimped it out for me and it was near impossible for the gentleman thief to do so). As a matter of interest. I have a type of black shoe polish I can't get out of the suspension links. They changed the bike colour to transport it it seems and have removed 90% of it to get it back to white. I'll post a pic this weekend.
  8. Its Church Street - I'm actaully not too sure where the Lib is I was going up Chapel towards Hayfields side of town and turned right into Church. See why I was nipping, not a nice part of town.
  9. I totally agree with you - what I forgot to mention is this happened a little while back and I've got the all clear from the cops before posting this. It was a long couple of nights as I did think I was going to get arrested, but I could not wait 45mins with a crowd forming around me.
  10. Last year we where robbed and I lost my GT i-drive. I was gutted and insurance didn't want to pay out as I didn't have a photo of myself with my bike. Fast forward a couple of months and a customer got chatting at work and I left late. The stars aligned and I was parked in the front at a robot and a white GT i-drive with white Fox forks came riding past me. I had a closed look and there was a Specialized Carbon seatpost and a Rasta on the saddle. I jumped the red robot and followed him into a busy street full of commuters heading home. He had no idea I was following him. I called the cops and they told me to wait 40mins until a vehicle was able to come out. I parked my bakkie and ran after him. I pulled him off my bike and a small crowd formed around us. I took a chance, loaded the bike onto the back and him in the front praying he wouldn't stab me. I sold the idea of a reward but he soon realised we where heading to the police station. He begged me to go to the taxi rank and talk to the person he bought it off. I started to nip myself as he was getting desperate and people do stupid things when desperate. He bolted out the bakkie and I didn't give chase. I just went to the police station to have it struck off the A1 form so if insurance ever did investigate they wont see the bike I said was stolen in my garage. At the police station the police wanted to charge me with robbery as the previous "owner" needed to accompany me. After going back and forth a senior member had a listen, explained I couldn't have done it in a worse way from a legal point of view, but he understood the circumstance. He took my number for any further questions should they crop up. My friend the Rasta hammered the breaks and I am busy replacing them, broke the wishbone, gears needed to be reset and fiddled with and added lots of dings to it. All in all, bikes back, last correspondence from the cops was positive and although it started off as a ball ache they followed up and apologized and patrol our street often now. http://i1154.photobucket.com/albums/p534/snowbeast26/utf-8BSU1HLTIwMTMwMzIwLTAwMjQ4LmpwZw.jpg My boet giving it a once over before the CANSA 12hr relay in Winterton - First ride since I got it back http://i1154.photobucket.com/albums/p534/snowbeast26/utf-8BUGlldGVybWFyaXR6YnVyZy0yMDEzMDExNi0wMDEwMy5qcGc.jpg 5mins before I was reunited - the cops could not use the picture as you cant make out his face
  11. First you gonna have to spend money building that old boy up and then have to ride it in front of your mates, rather save your cash for a newer DH bike/frame. Nige, you race in that WC?
