  1. We aiming to have a 70km open this year. Nobody owns the club or makes any profit out of it so we operating on a tight budget. Give us a shout next time you up and I can see if we can hook you up with some locals.
  2. After a year of hard work, minor setbacks and awesome support from the community we have opened our trails. We are a community project with an aim to not only offer top class trails, but also to create employment in our area. We currently have two previously unemployed locals now employed full time as trail builders. Our aim is to increase tourism into our beautiful area and in turn jobs in the tourism industry. Below is the announcement from the club: Cathkin Trails, a community project, has opened it's first fully marked 18km trail. The trail starts and finishes at the Okhahlamba buildings next to the airfield. Trail fees are R50 per day or R200 for a weeks pass. Park and Ride venues are: The Nest Hotel, Ardmore Guest Farm, The Valley Bakery, Drakensberg Brewery. Guest Sign and Ride venues are Goodersons Monks Cowl and Champagne Sports Resort. A map and rules will be at these points. All riders MUST sign an indemnity, pay their fees and receive a wrist band at the establishments mentioned above. No pay - no ride. Please ensure all others you encounter on the trail have a wrist band. Problems on the trails can be reported using the mySOS app or at the above establishments. We are not stopping there. In January we will be working on phase 2 and phase 3 will follow shortly after. Phase 2 will link onto phase 1 and bring in some untouched plantations, grueling climbs and exciting single track. Phase 3 will also be linked and open up some stunning views as you ride at the base of the little berg. The fee will include all trails, there are multiple entry points and park and ride facilities if you are not staying with one of our sponsors. We will be opening up sections to be named should any corporate like to get their brand out there. Please feel free to contact me. We are a bunch of passionate cyclists and trail runners who are also go getters. Let me know if you would like to organize training camps or even corporate events in the area. We have the facilities and also access to top cyclists who will guide and coach your clients, staff or friends. See you on the trails
  3. Hi Rory, Dragon peaks is a couple Km from one of our many start points.
  4. Sorry guys, haven't been on the forum lately, but we are up and running. Cathkin Trails, a community project, has opened it's first fully marked 18km trail. 5. Just an update, signs are at the printers and the first routes will be officially marked in the next two weeks. If the scenery and trails where not a big enough draw card, our routes will be going past the famous Valley Bakery and newly opened Drakensberg Brewery. I have done extensive product testing at both establishments
  6. In the next few weeks Cathkin Trails will be opening its doors officially. Our trail network is located in the Cathkin Valley and will have multiple entry points from the participating venues. Our aim is to increase tourism into the area, which in turn will create more employment in the area. As is we have two previously unemployed Gentlemen join us as full time trail builders along with Kirk Hollis of Rockslide MTB. We are registered as a PBO and at the moment are reliant on the local establishments donations to keep us running. Please go across to our Facebook group and feel free to contact either me via PM here or drop us a message on Facebook. Cheers
  7. Thanks a lot for the replies. I've just gone and raided my Dad's spare box and found a BB exactly the same as Otero's first pic. I eventually called my boet who works for PYGA and he explained the difference. My GT has an ISIS BB (can I say that without having my phone tracked?). So now all I'm looking for is a cheap crankset just to get it going, then the fun starts. I have a Fox RL32 for the front and the rest of the components are coming from my old Idrive. I'll start a thread when I start building.
  8. Thanks man, some forums get overly technical.
  9. Chat to http://www.capecoffeebeans.co.za, they are very knowledgeable, I get all my coffee through them.
  10. Howzit, Off the bat I am not a very technical person nor a racer, I just ride to see whats on the other side of the hill. I bought a 2008 Mongoose Meteore Team off a hubber last year sometime and over Christmas we stripped my GT i-drive (original was bought in 2004!) in the hope of building up my Mongoose. Once the bike was stripped bare we realised the BB's where not compatible. My question is, if I order a GXP BB, are they all the same? Will my old cranks fit? This is a link to a french guys build to on the same frame to give some sort of indication. http://veloptimal.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=248353 Cheers!
  11. Howzit, We are roughly the same height build. Personally go to a couple of shops, take the bikes you like for a spin and see how they feel. Also see how the shop treats you. You will be spending some good time at your local bike shop with services and repairs so find a shop with good customer service. I haven't ridden the Vipa so I can't pass comment.
  12. Xbox 360 has a couple of training "games". The MMA trainer has a good core and strength program that uses the Kinect. some of the stuff is brutal
  13. Candy, did you ever see the puffadder it got its name from? Second biggest I've ever seen. Biggest I ever saw was on everest, motivates you not to fall on your way down
  14. The picture was a last port of call as I had no slips when the assessor came around. Haha, if I had known this thread was going the insurance route I would have added a lot more detail in the original post. A couple lessons learnt: If your frame gets replaced remember to take down the new serial number. Make sure you have pictures for just in case. Make sure the cops come to the scene when you reclaim what is yours ( although I am certain I would have been stabbed)
