I commute IN the bus lane from Civic Centre all the way to Paarden Eiland stop and back after work IN the bus lane. I find it much safer than riding the cycle lane so close to the pedestrian's. You are right about watching for the buses who hoon it down the road, but that keeps the road clear of potential hijackers!!

Going to start communing from Hout Bay to Northgate Business Park (Paarden Eiland) soon. Drove around yesterday working out how to get there without too many kms on the road and I think I have found a nice route going via Lisbeck Parkaway and then riding next to the M5 on the greenbelt. Not to sure about crime on that route? Only thing missing from the puzzle is a gravel bike....

Is anyone regularly cycling the other way....

Also keen to start commuting but I will be coming from town out to Paarden Eiland in the morning and back in the evenings. Going to see if I can cycle in the myciti bus lane both ways?

Hi guys I will soon need to commute from Hout Bay to Northgate area. Is there any update on the ongoing security issues on the N1 cycle lane?

I am looking at purchasing the Vitus Energie Carbon CR Rival from CRC. (Looks like a very good deal!) I see the cost to deliver to SA is 200 pounds more from delivering to UK. From the above advice I can then add another +- 35% for customs, VAT and duties. That totals to an additional R11 000. Am I better off just to fly to the UK for less and bring back my 'used' bike. Coming from the UK, I would incur no other real costs!

Long shot I know! I think I left my orange Bell sweep helmet with my Garmin 310xt inside on the picnic bench outside the Jonkershoek Cafe. I have phoned both the Cafe and Gate with no success. If you were riding Jonkers on Saturday and may have seen the goods please let me know. Thanks in hope!! Adam

Just heard someone on CapeTalk radio mention that yesterday as he was cycling into Hout Bay from Constantia side at 5.30am, just past the grave yard, 5 guys came out onto the road and tried to hijack him. He got hit on the head, but managed to divert to the other side of the road, and due to his speed managed to escape. Please be aware.
