  1. I'm sitting with a huge smile reading this thread, I've never joined a club for the simple reason you always get people in the "bende" who all wants to be Trompie.. I cycled alone for very long time on a stratch of road with at least other people cycling there until I felt strong enough to join a bunch, and if I get dropped I do'nt blame the bunch but simply my own ability. I do a fair bit of all the disciplines and as good as the Mtb thing is, its only when you fly in a well organised bunch all working in unison, communicating only by gesture, that you experience true "Esprit de Corps" Funrides irritate the crap out of me because everyone wants sit in the bunch enjoy the slip, never work in front and then feel like a hero in the last 2k's. Nee wat take some time, get to know a few cyclists join a bunch untill you find one you like and join them for weekend rides and leave the "bendes" to their own devices..
  2. Warm en nog 'n bietjie warm!! If its cool in the morning, dont start with jackets and stuff, make suare you stay hidrated and take a couple of Crampblocks along..
  3. Ha Ha Exactly what happened to me at K2C, felt great for the first 75km and kept passing people and then the cramping started! From there it was nursing the pins all the way with hordes of okes passing me with me shouting, cramp block? cramp block? They looked at me with blank stares, surely thinking "what a chop! Will never ride a long ride again with those bl;errie pills! Enjoy your training!
  4. Bos, Have you taken your mtb up to the mast at Tokai, nou daai is 'n bult! Had a long conversation with one of those scientist blokes at the Sport Science institute on studies done worldwide on interval sessions vs tempo long rides. Almost all the studies indicate that the best gains both for endurance and Power output comes from interval sessions. The problem is that you need to know pretty accurately where your specific Lactate threshold and Vo2 Max is. This can only be determined with blood samples while you'r on a indoor machine! They do this for you at Newlands for around R500. Interestingly he also told me that the Swedish cross country ski team now exclusively do interval sessions and no more long distance endurance! Also biggest issue is rest after such a session or all the effort is wasted. Only problem also is that it mostly is do do these! I rather enjoy the leasurely rides as well!!
  5. Happy to report that my Ghetto conversion now did the K2C and a couple training rides, and no problems whatsoever! I love it! Valve tool also works great to remove the core of the valve to add some Stan's. Get it from any Midas.
  6. Is hierdie nie veel makliker nie??
  7. I suggest you google the Woodworking sites, can remember that years ago I came across plans for a (they call it a stove) that burns on woodshavings and sawdust that was basically a 40 gallon drum with pipe going out, The whole stove then provide heat for workroom. Google words like: slow burning stove etc. good luck!!
  8. If I have to watch that ad one more time!! They obviously thought that TDF would be a good time to air it 10 000 times! Jeeez
