  1. I'm getting fat
  2. Quickstep showing everyone how it's done.
  3. Exactly. That's just stupid and has absolutely no benefit to speed or safety. Just makes you look like a box and puts everyone at risk. Just be safe. Don't show off.
  4. Ok it seems I have offended some people with some of my comments here. I am not saying everyone has to be a racing snake. I am not saying Enduro/MTBers are not allowed to ride the CTCT. I am not saying that only people who smash sub 3s are allowed to do this race. The CTCT is not just some local race, it's massive. And I completely understand the appeal. What I am saying is this: Everyone has been complaining about the safety in the middle and back bunches. And with good reason! Two people lots their lives because of it on Sunday. So why is it that people in the middle and back bunches are all of a sudden pro and try to win the race from there, with a complete disregard for anyones safety? That's my point. That's why I keep saying that if you want to race, do the other races in preparation. If you get seeded in a racing bunch, then you are allowed to race. It's in the name, after all. The rest of the bunches are funride bunches. If you still feel you want to smash your PB, then by all means. That is more than fair. But don't ride like a box and put other people in danger. Accidents happen, I get it, but a lot of accidents can be prevented if everyone just took a second to consider the consequences. Just be safe out there. Don't do something silly that you might regret for the rest of your life, just because you wanted to stroke your ego.
  5. I understand that being fit, but having bad seeding means that you have to fight your way through the back markers, but my point is, if you're so fit AND CONCERNED WITH DOING A GOOD TIME, why is the CTCT your first race? Why not do a couple of races before hand to get a decent seeding with riders of the same ability. Then you are guaranteed a fast time. My point is, there is more to putting in a fast time than being fit. And the preparation is more than just training.
  6. Very romantic idea, but many times the bunch will just slow down right with you when you try to peel off. But you are right, that is how it's supposed to work. It also prevents the surging that occurs when one rider has to come from the back and pass the rider in front.
  7. Geez.. Don't even get me started on juniors
  8. Not to be rude, but there are plenty of events throughout the year to improve your CTCT seeding. If you (or anyone, not directed specifically at you) are so serious about doing a fast CTCT, why not do the preparation properly? A fast CTCT is just as much about the build up as race day itself. Do more races, get fitter/ faster, get better bunch skills and get better seeding. There is no downside. Not doing this is pure laziness. I'm not saying everyone HAS to do this, but then don't come and act like a pro and ram everybody off the road come race day, because you want to do a sub 5. Then it is supposed to be a funride. Sorry, I know I say "you" a lot, but this is a general comment. Not directed at you specifically.
  9. I fully agree. The fact that this is not treated as a funride already kinda shocks me. The race has already been won before most people even start. It annoys me so, so much when I see people in the middle bunches acting like pros just to stroke their own egos but with a complete disregard for anyone else's safety. What exactly are they trying to "win"?
  10. I know, I am very aware that accidents happen in every bunch, but I still feel much safer up front. I still feel that it is something that needs to be given attention to. I race at Killarney every Thursday and we touch shoulders, lean on each other and average a speed of 45kph. Yet a crash happens once a month, if that much. So please explain why it is that at much higher speed and what is perceived by many as "dangerous riding" are there fewer crashes in the racing bunches? Also bear in mind that while it seems that crashes happen in the front more often, those riders also race a lot more. So if you crash once a year in the racing bunch, but race every weekend, the you crash once out of 50 times for arguments' sake. If you crash once a year, but race once a year in the middle or back bunches, your crash ratio is 100%. So by that logic (correct me if I'm wrong) it does seem to be a bit more dangerous at the back. Anyway, I guess I'm just still a bit annoyed at the fact that I couldn't ride with my bunch and that I missed my sub 3 because of a mechanical and and.. so perhaps don't take what I'm saying too seriously.
  11. I started in & bunch yesterday, but sadly I hit a pothole and cracked my rim on the Blueroute. My father was kind enough to bring my set of training wheels, but dealing with road closures and coming from the northern 'burbs, I lost an hour standing next to the road only 20kms in. By the time I got going, I was riding "with" 2G or there abouts. Worked my way through the bunches solo and came down Landadno with the 2D bunch. The accident with the marshal had just happened as I passed. Horrible sight.. very sad to hear about his passing. I realise what I am about to say will probably sound rude to some, but I feel I need to say it none the less. The racing bunches are always accused of riding dangerously, but this is definitely not the case. I feel a lot safer in the racing bunches than I felt yesterday with the middle groups. Yes, sure, accidents happen, but for the most part at least the racing bunches know how to handle a bicycle and know how to ride in a bunch. It just looks dangerous because it happens so much faster. In the middle bunches (especially in the funride world champs, when everyone is a pro) people swerve all over the place, there is no bunch etiquette what so ever and in fact, most of the time there are no bunches, just groups of 5 trying to ride each other of the wheel, because of course this will make them faster in the long run. Bunch skills and etiquette is , quite frankly, pathetic in the middle bunches. It is something that I feel needs to be focussed on and talked about and taught by PPA or whoever. You wouldn't shove someone who drives once a year into a racing car onto a track full of other cars would you? So why do people who cycle once a year think it's fine to just show up without any regard for other's safety? Anyway, rant over I guess. Was glad to be able to finish in the end.
  12. Missed my A seeding by 0.8 Very frustrating.. Oh well. Have to just race hard at Tour de PPA
  13. Good point.. Well, here's hoping!
  14. I hope so, because I am in 1B Looking at 2016, 1D was a sub 3 group. Having said that, the weather was perfect that year.
  15. Sorry, I've already been signed Is anyone else extremely nervous, or is it just me?
  16. I saw the youngster on the Pina afterward at the finish. Apart from some road rash, he looked ok. Nothing serious.
  17. Happened just behind me. Sounded horrible.. but a crash always does. It seems that every race, there is a crash in C batch.
  18. Thanks Defender. I managed to find the results on PPA website if I filter cat 2.
  19. Any news on the Cat 2 league results? Are we not getting results because of the misdirection by the marshal?

  22. At least we can suffer together
  23. I will be popping my Magalies Monster cherry on Saturday. You guys are making me poop myself. I entered for the 70km thinking "how hard can it be?" My setup will be whatever I am given to ride. Will most likely be a Spez Camber. 120mm travel front and rear Probably a 28t 1x11 setup If it is stock standard, Spez Purgatory 2.3 up front and 2.3 Groun Control rear. Dropper post if there is any single track to handle. I will go to this event purely to survive. My roadie legs are not going to get me through this at race pace.
