  1. If it's one thing Cape Town has loads of, its scenery... and fire.
  2. This is not a race anymore, being labelled as a solidarity ride alludes to the probability of it not counting as an official seeding event.
  3. Announced as "Show You Care Solidarity" ride...
  4. The expo is still a go, from the organizers.
  5. Perhaps give the peninsula a complete miss... Start-M3-left at Muizenberg-Stellenbosch-R304-N1-Kloof Nek-Camps bay to the end stretch... ±25Km longer (134km), but no killer climbs. I did a map & everything Yours sincerely, 2 Cent
  6. We used a cleaning service recently, the only new variable in the equation & then there's the census guy from a while back... The hard drive was not merely a back-up, but rather storage for a file server. My bike was perchance at the LBS for a service. I doubt that they would've taken it though since I think it was a premeditated "hit". If it were your run of the mill break-in, they woudl've gone into the study & bedrooms & turned the place, which they didn't.
  7. Looking at the all the posts here, it seems the consensus leans towards fowl play on the part of the security companies. So where does that leave us? At the mercy of the people we pay to "protect" us? And for how long do we put up with it? What are our options? Bomb-proofing our homes? Sadly, this may be our only option bar vigilantism...
  8. Ok. So my laptop is being lobotomized & my security company is robbing me in more way than one. Lovely.
  9. Thanks! Will definitely use this on the other devices.
  10. I wonder though, how will they get into my machine if it's password/biometrically protected? And in hindsight, I should have encrypted all my data...
  11. That's some heavy stuff. I'm sure lots of us can recount stories of the serendipitous arrival of security companies. I should have studied forensic computer science & track down whomever I please or find suspicous behaviour if I suspect any...
  12. lol... I'll fit one of those. Can one set it to disintegrate?
  13. ADT, but not for long though. We're definitely changing, once their report finds its way to the insurance...
  14. You may be right. We've become too content with letting the insurance kick in & replace things. I'm ready to go Dexter on these thugs.
  15. Thanks Splat... yeah the coppers said there's been a spate of break-ins in the adjoining suburbs. A colleague just told me that it may be a gang (the front door gang or somehting that) who "specialize" in this sort of break-in.
  16. That's what I think. It must be somebody that knew what was there. I'm in Claremont (Cape Town).
  17. Unfortunately is wasn't a mac. An HP Pavillion dv6730ei to be exact... I will be getting a mac now, though.
  18. dankie tuna... meskien moet ek my "designer breed" ruil vir a meneer met n ketang ;]
  19. So yeah... I'm the most recent victim of a home burglary. My TV (46" let me add, no small feat to carry, so there were at least 2), a laptop & a desktop hard drive (2TB with about 500gb or so of free space). But get this, that's all that was taken. They came in through the front door (between 0900 & 1100 we guestimate); cut the driveway gate lock, crowbarred the security gate & hit the front door lock to smithereens. All this in record time since the neighbours didnt hear the alarm which leads us to think it might have been bypassed somehow. So after spending most of yesterday with the security company, insurers & handy man, I'm devoting some time to tracking these degenerates down based on a hunch I have. If any hubbers know some people who know some who know how to do certain things we won't mention here, drop me a line. Sooo over being the victim. over & out
  20. At the end of the day... would you rather have a machine that brews from a bean that YOU can grind or only be able to brew from a prepacked pod? Options or no options? Would you buy a car that could run on a fuel of your choice or one that only runs on fossil fuel... (I sound like a Santam ad)
  21. Yep. Had the Meccano when I was wee lad, loved it. The size of my collection gradually diminished as I aged (hence my "whats mine is mine" attitude these days). Bought my boy one of the Space Chaos models, he prefers Lego though... **pffft** kids.
  22. Das ist true, but they're not really the sets one builds & breaks up. It gets built & planted on a nice high shelf out of the reach of little fingers in daddy's study. Besides, daddy makes sure little buddy has his own bucket of blocks... lol
  23. Hi guys, Sorry about this minor hijack, but I'm in the process of replacing all the cables (Campag) on my bike as well and if there's one thing my few years on this planet have taught me, it's if you want something done right... well, you know the rest. As you were
  24. And to this day, they still manage to fail parlessly at providing a professional service to all their customers and not just a select few.
  25. The Oatmeal; great site, but still calling it Legos like Americans do. Check this..."Proper Use of the LEGO Trademark on a Web SiteIf the LEGO trademark is used at all, it should always be used as an adjective, not as a noun. For example, say "MODELS BUILT OF LEGO BRICKS". Never say "MODELS BUILT OF LEGOs".Also, the trademark should appear in the same typeface as the surrounding text and should not be isolated or set apart from the surrounding text. In other words, the trademarks should not be emphasized or highlighted. Finally, the LEGO trademark should always appear with a ® symbol each time it is used."
