  1. Free beer ? What free beer? Maybe there was nothing left after I finished after 5h40min... Jeez you might say, but it was my first MTB race ever! And that climb ... liewe donner!!! But then again, I'm always gonna struggle being 100kg and almost 2m tall. Do the pros actually ride that out? I think you must be superhuman or something to NOT get off your bike and push it out. I was completely gatvol at the top of the climb. And the decent was just as hard , hard on the body and hard on the bike. Luckily did not have ANY mechanical issues... beginners luck? Did not see a lot of game, probably because I was more at the back of the bunch... About the aid-stations, liked the bananas and cold water, did carry a camelbak with a carbo drink and some energy bars.... For a first time MTB racer (??? ) and Lionman entrant, it's difficult to give an educated opinion I know, but compared to road races (running and cycling) it was pretty standard I would say, would have liked some coke as well.... EXCEPT for the scenery.... it was amazing, dis lekker in die bosveld!!!
  2. Roadies will never greet first (I don't even want to get started on riders from THAT club), if you're a runner, you're even lower than snake poo. Mounties are a lot friendlier.
  3. My Merida 96 HFS 3000D (dual) comes in at about 12.5kg. Pretty standard specs except the tubeless tyres and bar-ends. Got the biggest frame I could get (21.5 inches, I think XL?) for my 1.96m and 100kg fat ass. Also had to replace std seatpost for longer one, seat changed as well. Doubt if that will have a huge impact on the "std" weight Loving it BTW !!!Gillie2009-05-15 03:51:49
  4. I never thought that getting your butt chaffed is even possible. So for that reason I was very curious to why my wife was laughing at my behind when I got into the shower after the Ironman this year, only then I realized what my mate meant when he said "smeer jou ass goed met chamois cream" The water I poured over myself in the 35 degree heat also did not help.
  5. Howzit guys and girls Saw quite a couple of tri-bikes the past weekend doing the Magalies cradle ride. Was wondering if I could join some of the guys as I don't want to do it alone. So give me a shout if you like. Thanks
  6. I'll remember that, hopefully a smile and not a grimace in my case
  7. Ja, maybe I should stick to the "mainroads", probably safer as well
  8. Yes, I will be riding alone at this stage, so yes, looks like it might be side of the road and pavement for now... grrrrrr
  9. Yes, it is basically from the Discovery building corner of fredman and west, to cedar square in 4ways
  10. Hi there Anybody know of a MTB route between Sandton and Fourways? Maybe it has been posted in the past, apologies for asking AGAIN then. Thanks

If I do it again, will organize the traveling arrangements a bit differently. Maybe we should all boycott the next one, just to tell the organizers to get their act together.
