I know the thread asks for trails in Gauteng! But if you are prepared to travel I little further....2,5hrs to Mpumalanga then the best long, flowing, downhill trails are at Tranquilitas Farm in Waterval Boven. Here are just 3 of the many runs there are that are 4km or

Dont know of any place that has 5km of bomber downhill singletrack 2hrs from Jhb. Do You ????

Tranquilitas in Waterval Boven is great, Camping is only R70,00 per person, there is 24hr security, great pool to cool down in and only 2hrs from JHB. Also rock climbing for those who can't ride a bike yet. Yes, the trails do get harder the faster you ride, especially the awesome new singletrack sections built by Glenn Harrison. Family friendly too, I try to go as often as I can.

I am 1.83m and ride a Large with a 60mm stem. Seat height 78cm No problem. An XL felt a bit stretched for me

I think the lions in the reserve may be the reason for no MTB trails.

Waterval Boven. Tranquilitas Trails, the black route is as fast as you dare and the Rim trail and decent on the mountain loop is as exiting as anything that I have ever ridden.

Happened to me as well. Same Giraffe the dark coloured one. Was with 2 smaller giraffes, and took a swipe at me with its head narrowly missing. Was a bit shaken by the incident, its not like you can run away and climb a tree to escape. Ostrich chased my wife as well, that was funny. Had some encounters with guinea fowl as well, attacked by a few when they had their chicks with them. I suppose its the time of the year with all the newborns around. Oh yes, and the snakes start coming out as well now. Thats mountain biking for you in Africa, not for sissies.
