  1. i suggest a 26er
  2. cool movie!
  3. actually tight fitting pants are the leading cause of testicular cancer because the testicals overheat when they get rammed up against your body. but dont take MY word for it, ask lance armstrong.
  4. i like to wear baggies (over a pair of lycras) because i have pockets to put my cellphone and house keys, but more importantly it doesn't rip when i fall - some of my friends are forever tearing their lycra on the most minor off's, and then they have to ride semi-naked all the way back. i'm all for practicality vs posing and trying to look like burry stander on the epic.
  5. now why would you want to advertise the fact that you are wearing bibshorts??? maybe they lost a bet
  6. i guess it's in the way you where brought up, some people are just trailer-trash
  7. no one cares whether you have a runny nose, keep your bodily fluids inside your body. instead of evacuating it at mach 5, spare us and swallow it because the rest of us dont want it spraying all over the place! i've honestly never found myself in a sport situation where i needed to explode the contents of my nose to the outside world. it is a dirty habit that exhibits poor self control and zero respect towards those around you. it's right up there with peeing in public and picking your nose.
  8. i dont greet people on the spruit - they way i see it is that they should get out of my way or pay the price.
  9. blowing your nose without using a tissue or something, spraying it all over, is possibly the most disgusting thing any one person can do! it would be really frowned upon if you did it say, in a restaurant or in church, yet it is deemed acceptable if you are sitting on a bicycle? riding a bike doesn't exempt you from etiquette, basic manners, and having personal hygiene. if you did this in such a manner that it sprayed all over me or my wife, i would shoot you in the face!
  10. heck, simply seeing someone in bibshorts makes ME laugh
  11. i was inclined towards the BMW too, but after some research i have found that: every owner has a problem with the suspension. the BMW has a 15 litre tank, while the triumph has a 18 litre tank. they say the triple of the triumph is smoother than the twin of the beemer. the triumph sells for 5k less than the BMW. in my personal opinion the seat on the BMW is too hard for long trips. but no doubt, they are both great bikes!
  12. KTM cape town sells a 690 enduro with a 990 body-kit and large fuel tanks, they call it the oryx and it sells for about 110k. google it. i had both a ktm 950 and a ktm 640, and while both were fine for two-up touting, the 640 single cylinder was sorely lacking on the open road, especially when it came to overtaking. it's personal preference, but i wont ever go smaller than an 800 for two-up touring.
  13. afaik the KTM 640 adventure is no longer in production. the tenere 660 is probably the best all-rounder at the moment, but is not ideal if you have any plans to take a passenger with. it certainly is the best looking of all the DS bikes on the market at the moment, and the large tank makes the most sense! (ive done trips on a KTM950 adv and found that even with 22l capacity you can never carry enough fuel on an african trip)
  14. triumph tiger 800xc for me please!
  15. again, the versys is a very nice bike, but definitely not a true dual sport bike ( a bike meant for both on-road and off-road). here are a three things that you want for any kind of gravel road longer than a few hundred metres: spoked rims - upon taking a moderate hit, spoked rims absorb energy by bending, but they keep going. mag rims crack and break, leaving you stranded a large diameter front wheel, preferably a 21 inch long travel suspension neither the versys nor the vstrom has these features as standard. dont take my word for it though, just research it and you will find that once you start doing dual sport riding, you only buy something that is purpose built like the list in my previous post.
  16. while the vstrom is a good bike, it's not ideally suited for any kind of gravel riding, rather check out: triumph tiger 800xc bmw gs 800, or 1200 ktm 990 adventure yamaha super tenere 1200, or tenere 660 do some research on this forum, it's all about dual sport motorcycling and the guys are super friendly - http://www.wilddog.z...forum/index.php
  17. rouxtjie, i'm just saying, if you worry about grams, try and get rid of kilo's first - why spend all your attention on a leaky tap, when the burst geyser goes unfixed, get it? each to his own i suppose...
  18. says ME, i have both, so it is easy to compare the two, duh and what about bodyweight. some guys try and save 80grams here, and 20 grams there by fitting carbon seatposts and handlebars, but meanwhile back at the ranch they are 10kilo's over their ideal body weight - would it not make more sense to drink less beer and cut down on 10kilos than worry about a few grams on your bike?
  19. yes you can, it's just more fun and a lot faster on a dual susser. but dont take my word for it, what do i know, after all, all the fastest machines invented by man come without rear suspension, so i guess suspension is a conspiracy.
  20. i totally agree! the ride should be about quality, not quantity. ie. instead of trying to ride a 60km dirt-highway ride, rather challenge yourself to a shorter more technical 25km ride and have fun. what's the point in racing on every single ride? you alienate your ride partners, never get any better, and dont have fun because you feel guilty for slowing down to take in the scenery and trying a challenging obstacle. i recently got rid of my super light hard tail and got back onto a full-susser again after trying to convince myself for too long that it was better to save the weight and that one could have just as much fun on a hard tail. well, surprise surprise, riding just became fun again!!!! and the best part is, i dont notice the extra weight, i only notice how much more fun it is to go fast on the downhills and breeze over technical bits!
