  1. the spruit is a busy place, be courteous and expect other users.
  2. to the douchebag on the spruit this afternoon (between bryanston drive and 12th ave) who had the nerve to shout at me to "keep to the ...er, erm.. uh. LEFT!" - get a grip you retard! if YOU are the one doing mach 1 around a blind corner, common courtesy dictates that YOU take evasive action when you come around said corner and find someone in front of you facing the opposite direction. you have no right to anything, let alone to shout instructions at other people. I know what you look like, next time i will put my arm out and clothes-line you as you come past. ps. not that i owe you an explanation, but i feel that to put things in context for the other readers on the forum - the reason i was on the right-hand track was because I moved out of the way of your buddy who was on the left, ie. MY side of the track.
  3. not another 29er thread

  5. really? which costs more, using knobblies for 100km on a road ride, or paying R400 for a set of road tyres?
  6. no one cares if you cut 30 minutes off your time because you still aren't anywhere near winning the race, so you might as well keep your knobblies on and try and improve your personal time instead, without taking the easy route of fitting slicks and fooling yourself into thinking you are faster. it grinds me how so many people think you simply cannot under any circumstances do the 94.7 on your MTB if you don't have slicks fitted. To them the idea of doing it with knobblies is totally absurd. - WAKE UP people, an MTB rides just fine on tar!
  7. on the contrary, the consensus is that the people who put slicks on a MTB for a once-a-year joyride like the 94.7 are the actual posers - you are cutting 3.56400349456 minutes off your time of three hours point NO ONE CARES!!!
  8. why would you do that race on slicks? you're not going to win it on a mtb with slicks, so who are you trying to out-do by putting slicks on? just suck it up and be a mountainbiker for crying out loud!
  9. "yes, but everybody is doing it and in fact they've sold more 29ers.....blah blah blah." everybody's wearing their hats like this, but that doesn't make it look less stupid. .
  10. the problem is that try as you might it simply looks wrong - just because something is practical, it doesn't mean it makes it less of an eyesore - think of a 29er as the Crocs of the cycling world...bwaaahhahahahahahahahaaaa!!!! .
  11. the problem is, people with bigger engines, wheels, more expensive bikes etc etc are over-compensating for a small weiner.
  12. life is not all about racing, ffs how many people drive around in formula one cars?
  13. ...is that it messes with the Coriolis effect of the earth - every time you pedal the earth slows down or speeds up on it's axis, thus aiding natural disasters like tsunami's, tropical cyclones, and the hole in the ozone layer. if you care about the earth, you won't ride a 29er
  14. this is no laughing matter. a friend's brother t-boned a car about 10 years ago when an old lady reversed out of her driveway - he broke his neck. he lay there unable to move or feel anything below his chin, was on life support for months, and is still wheelchair bound. he was a top athlete at the prime of his life, studying at varsity, and with his whole life ahead of him. now he suffers from constant depression. i really hope this person is OK.
  15. or drive it off a cliff...
  16. check the fuel tank for leaks
  17. and toe-clips. you modern day wussies think it's difficult learning to ride with SPD's? try these things - designed as a medieval torture device, they eventually found their way onto mountainbikes in the early 90's. their key function was to ensnare a shoelace and take you DOWN when you try to put your foot out! http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g77/krazy-eyes/pd1171.jpg

  19. If you dont remember atleast 5 items below, you have no business on a mountainbike! shimano 200GS, the best thing since sliced cheese (although skeptics resisted rapid-fire technology for a good couple of years)) http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g77/krazy-eyes/images.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g77/krazy-eyes/shimano200gs.jpg cantilever brakes. WAY better than u-brakes, but still impossible to get the pads set up. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g77/krazy-eyes/m734black_1569_general.jpg cateye vectra. better than the cable operated mechanical speedo's sold by the bike shop and the OK at Sanlam Centre. 20. OK, i get your point. just saying, i have done this race 3 years in a row and have never actually entered, lol.
  21. geez, some people totally overthink a situation. just enter and be done with it. and swop as many kids as you like. heck, put the garden boy on the back too. NO ONE CARES! or better yet, just do what I do - dont enter at all, pitch up at the start gate at the time/slot you desire, ride up to the 50km mark (which happens to be near my house) and drink beer for the rest of the day as you laugh at the guys who still have to go ANOTHER 50km!
  22. with regards to what happened to my friend - i did not make it a race issue, it already was. after conversing in a black language, the cops took the word of the trespassing nigerian over that of the law abiding property owner who defended himself against the raving aggressor. you have to be blind and deaf to not notice abuse of power and lack apathy by black police officers towards white people in this country. sure it's maybe the exception, and not the rule, but i for one wont take that chance. the less cops are involved, the better. i'm tired of politically correctness, and pussyfooting around the issue. why may a black man accuse a white person of racism, and instantly gain sympathy? but when a white man accuses a black man of discrimination, the white man becomes the racist.
  23. i support the OP's decision to not involve the cops. using pepperspray, even in self-defence is VERY serious. a friend of mine was once charged with "assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm" - that, my friends, is one charge below attempt at murder. my mate was fetched by the police from his house at 1am, cuffed, thrown into a police van, and then and locked in a cell for using pepperspray in self defence on his own property! sure, the prosecutor threw the case out before it even went to court, but the traumatisation, legal fees, and bull***t he had to endure to keep himself out of jail and from getting a record left a bad taste in his mouth. the fact of the matter is that the police in this country like to get back at the white man by pulling stunts such as the one mentioned above. they stick up for their previously disadvantaged friends by taking the word of the criminal over the word of the victim. do you want that kind of trouble for yourself by involving the police, even if you know you acted in self defence??? i don't! i also ride with pepperspray, and have used it too when a security guard at an open-mall tried to "confiscate" my bike while i was pushing it along and looking in the windows of the shops. confiscate? confiscate? CONFISCTATE THIS!
