  1. Nice track hey zac.A. I broke my RD in the first 5km's. Was stuck in the lower 5 gears on the back and all 3 in front. What was your time? First 16km's was rough for me, made up good time on the last 24km's. Did it in 2 hour 30 minutes pretty average but I'm pleased! Was my first mtb race :D.

One thing that was bad is the shorter races merging with the 42km, don't like sitting behind someone not getting away.

  2. Been discussed a few times, would like to see it on a poll. Would be interesting how people differ on this topic.

Would like some input from the ladies as well, not if they shave or not....but what do you girls reckon? Yes the guys should shave, no they should not shave or shave but only if you are a athlete.

    Discuss!

  3. Thought for the day-"In order order to understand any situation you need to be in one"-alot of people talk about apartheid like expects. a lot talk about affirmative action like they designed it. whether you are for or against, you expirienced crime against you or your family. put your self in shoes of someone who lost a father at the age of 10. what would you like to teach him? that hate all blacks couze one killled your father or trust in the Lord as he is the giver of life?and no matter what anyone says or does it's how you react and what you become that makes another 10year old without a father want to become like.black or white there are 10year olds alike and they all grow up to be men like us immagine if all black 10 year olds in 1980 who lost their parents or family because of apartheid where to fataly hate the opressor, they would be 32 year olds murder weapons ruling our country. this is what hate does it destroys passion builds, let's all be passionate about our country and fight the real enermy "crime"

Stopped reading at "expirienced", get a spell check please.

  4. If you think that crime isn't racially intent you are lying to yourself. Sometimes I am sure it isn't but in most cases it is. How is it that the white population only consists of 9.2% out of nearly 50million people. Out of the 50 people being killed every day in South Africa I would like to know if it is only 9.2% white people, cause that would be logical.

We are the rape capital of the world. And we have some of the highest baby and child rape figures in the world.

There has been over 4000 farm murders in South Africa since 1994. How is that not racially intended? that is roughly 2 farmers getting killed (and most of the time it's torture and the wife and 6month old baby will get raped and then killed) every 3 days!

While a baby and his babysitter was killed our president was trying to get rid of a painting with his genitals (which imho is more than fair if you have so many wifes and children you can start your own school).

Malema is singing kill the afrikaners and no one says a thing. The south african girls hockey team plays against England and guy behind the cd player puts on "die stem" instead of the national anthem and there is a huge outcry. Die stem has nothing to do with apartheid. I was written in the early 90's.

Why is it that the black population continuously makes a very big mountain, blames apartheid and feeds the nation with hate towards the white population whenever something small happens. Rape and murder is never spoken about, farm murders are never spoken about, raping a 5 month old baby is never spoken about.

I haven't seen a white politician going on about farmers or white babies and wifes being killed like that.

I am sick of not being cared about when the white population is the majority who fuels sars pockets. I am trying to move on from apartheid (of which I wasn't apart of so by the way). I don't want to keep being reminded how my nation messed things up. Are the Americans also being reminded about their dirty past? Are the Britain's also being reminded that they started black labour?

I want to move on can the black population please do the same?

  5. Recommend Cycle shops:

    CT - gecko cycles

Stellenbosch - Masons cycles (don't like flandria or bmt)

Paarl - Local bike mechanic, Pieter Rossouw, best value for money by a very big margin. If I lived in CT I would rather spend R80 petrol money and take my bike to him. Stay very far away from croff cycles.

  6. Very poor communication from the organizers as well as race tec. My first time I will be doing the race and thus far the experience is not very good. Send an email as well as sms's to annelize with no replies. Had to wait 3 days to get a response from race tec. I finally sorted myself out but struggling to get my transponder registered.

  7. We could maintain a online directory here, name location and contact details of mechs that shown themself to be worthy of the golden badge.

The problem with the cycling industry is that bikeshops are not prepared to pay top dollar for well trained mechanics.

Instead of naming and shaming the shops why don't we rather make a list of those awesome mechanics who do excellent work? With their permission of course.

Excellent idea. So start the thread. Just get it stickied so we can come back and find it.

  8. Just interested why we not doing the name and shame thing?

I really think we should....honestly, there are so many bike shops out there costing many guys money, time and a lot of effort. Why not point them out and save people the trouble of going there.

  9. As opposed any other reason for starting a business? <_<

Meant to rip you off, to charge you overpriced prices on components and services and not servicing properly.

In Paarl we are very fortunate to have someone like Jaques Rossouw's dad. The oom has been servicing bike for many years. Asks me R250 for a service and then he does everything, want to upgrade? He gets the best prices and gives good knowledge.

His main focus is to get you out and riding. That is all he want's. He is not in it for the money, he says cycling is already so expensive he is just trying to lighten the load. Now I know the lbs's also has to make a living, pay rent, employees and run risks but hell, how can one shop charge you double that of another shop or triple that of crc on a R1000 item? Doesn't make sense to me.

Just my thoughts on the matter :D

  10. I agree, international prices as a rule are cheaper, however I found that building up a good relationship with your LBS can be advantageous - they are offering me 15% discount on cash purchases. Although they still sometime come in higher than the international price, it only does so marginally making it worth my while to shop locally.

I know a lot of guys say that but I believe the majority of lbs's are just there to get your money, I trust masons and gecko cycles but that's about it.

Buy components from cwc and have the local bike mechanic service my bike.
