  1. You must know and accept that not all riders buy bikes from game, never shave their legs and ride on dirt roads with their raleigh helmets, tekkies and rugby broekies. I ride hard everytime. I push myself to get better and more fit, and thats how I enjoy myself. Don't judge or comment negatively about me, cause I don't do that to you.

    Each to their own.

  2. Sorry....I am still a noob so you have to forgive me.

I always run away when people buying speakers start talking about wattage, same concept.

In your opinion top 3 front and rear hubs? Considering price as well.

My thinking is just, you bought 370gram rims, doesn't help you stuff them up with heavy shimano xt hubs...

  3. Thanks Johan.

Any experience with Kore hubs? See they are R1200 front and rear and weigh about 75grams more than a R2000 set of hopes. Best pair of value for money hubs then I rate.

If you order ztr crest rims on kore hubs laced with DT swiss revolution spokes you get a 1605gram wheelset for a steal of R3300!

  4. Ok so I bought myself a pair of crest 29er rims, now I am searching for hubs. Going to build as the cash comes in. Want to get the hubs next and when I got the cash spokes and have a pro build them for me.

Thing is I came across these wtb hubs

These hubs are well priced and weigh much lighter than hope pro's...so what's the catch?

I have a GT zaskar pro 29er frame, unshure of how wide the rear hub should be. 10spd setup.

  5. I am 1.86m and started off on a Medium, then upgraded to a large, and it didn't feel so lekker. Bike didn't handle very well so later I upgraded again, now on a medium 29er.

I normally don't trust any advice given to me by bike shops. I also don't trust all the measurements and fitment advice on the internet. I don't follow strict rules, climb on the bike, ride it and adjust the seatpost height, spacers on stem, stem length according to how YOU like it. If you like how it feels and handles then I wouldn't change a thing.

If you feel it is too small (bike frame sizes differ in top tube - length from the seatpost to the stem, and seat tube length - length from the bottom bracket to the seatpost hole), then the best bet is to sell the frame and buy a second hand frame alone. That will cut the costs lost to a minimum.

Do remember that when you pedal and either one of your feet are at the lowest point there should still be a small bent in your knee. It shouldn't feel as if you are stretching your legs to pedal.

  6. I run Mountain King 2.4 UST up front, and Race King 2.2 UST at the rear.

This combo did Sani2c and Mankele Avalanche - I don't think you could ask for much more.

There is no question that it is fast but it is pretty loose at the back end.

That must be some heavy tires. Is it really necessary for tires so wide? Do you ride a DS?

  7. I had race king ust's. If you have the ust they are double walled. Already durable and strong so no need for the protection version. They didn't grip as well as rocket rons, on the back wheel they have better stopping power but on the front go for x-kings.

  8. on a 32gb I can't seen why you can't run alac on it. 32gb is more than enough for my library, but then again I'm not one of those guys having a 100gb library for bragging rights. I have what I want and listen to.

A DAC is out of the question. Using it for cycling. Besides having a DAC will only make a difference with decent earphones or headphones.

  9. That's decent man well done. Thinking of joining the ppa, think it's worth it starting off earlier and probably riding in a stronger bundle. How does the ppa groups work?

    No Francois I'm not.

Are you a member of PPA. If not, your result won't be posted. It's one of PPA's rules that only paid up members results are posted since they cover the cost of timing the events.

That can't be right since they do list temp members names with resuslts....last year's results also including temp results.

  10. Interesting inputs, so endmondo is out on the touch. I have a dock so would like to stick with apple, itunes works a treat but the moto is worth a look.

Classic is a bit heavy for my use RB but as you said, for car and office it's the one to go for. If you add R1000 so that's R3000 total you can get the 32gb touch. Now that's a nice deal. Touch is outweighing on the scale. Got a HD video camera (would be nice for some mtb races), you can get that holder to put it on your stem and put the odd movie, youtube video or app on it. There's even apps for sms'ing for free to other touches and iphones. Seen some free call (with wifi) apps as well, like skype for instance.

The iphone is a bit out of my budget. Mom's phone is almost due for an upgrade but the 4s goes for R470pm. Maybe mtn has a good deal on the 8gb iPhone 4.

  11. Somehow my iPod shuffle broke and i am getting a R700 voucher. I would like to get some input on the matter of your iPod.

I use mine mainly for outdoor activties. More battery life is always a better thing, that goes for space as well. The shuffle is only 2gb and battery life is pretty poor. So i am deciding on the nano or the touch.

In sa the price diff is only R200 so my main problem with the touch is it's size.

What do you guys have/prefer? Touch can take some nice apps like endmondo, battery life is x1.5 as good and 8gb is ok. Is the nano's size a no brainer?

  12. Very poor communication from the organizers as well as race tec. My first time I will be doing the race and thus far the experience is not very good. Send an email as well as sms's to annelize with no replies. Had to wait 3 days to get a response from race tec. I finally sorted myself out but struggling to get my transponder registered.

Thanks to no response on my post, email or sms, I am not on the results on racetec. Couldn't get my transponder registered. Thanks a lot for that. Really appreciate it.
