  1. This year's gimmick. The promotional videos are a hoot "Since I can now store my tube and bomb inside the frame, SWAT has transformed by life, who I am, the way I am" Useful for smuggling dagga into Afrika Burns.
  2. I was in Rotorua in New Zealand last year for a week and every second bike is a Reign - and that is not the rental fleet. There are a couple of Yetis, Santa cruzs and others around, but the standard go to bike for enduro trail DH stuff there seems to be the Reign. Everyone seemed to love it.
  3. Do you have to wear baggie pant to ride that trail now days ? Last time we did it was in lycra with uncovered knees and it seemed okay
  4. Look at the comments on Pink Bike - everyone reckons it is a throw back to elasonomer things in the early 1990's.
  5. The 650b Pyga - http://www.pygaindustries.com/frame/the-onetwenty650#tab-6 See the reviews, it cleans up the competition and one can get a basic slx/xt build for around 35-40k.
  6. Lots of control mate, I would have started going nuts after paragraph 4. Shops have nice big glass windows....
  7. I also have South African wide feet that don't fit into narrow euro and especially sidi shoes. I found that Northwaves are great, they seem to be wider than most. http://www.wiggle.com/northwave/cycle/shoes/ Just watch out of the import duties if you do have them shipped in. they are classified as clothing by customs.
  8. Does the S7 have a similar "camel toe" effect on the front like the S5? http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/assos-t-fimilles5-bib-shorts It may be an italian thing though...
  9. If you submerse your bike often it may be an option - give them a call to ask for the best point - my Giant has a small hole in the bottom of the bottombracket. Otherwise, take out the headset and bottom-bracket and give it a few days to dry out.
  10. About 7k? I sold a 2008 one for about R8000 before the 29er / 650b palava happened.
  11. Go to Crown Cycles or Luke in Tokai. Olympic are a rip off. The last time I took a bike in there was to get the brakes fixed and when it come out the bottom-bracket was knacked. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the BB bearing etc before I took it in. Got it back, jumped on to see if the brakes worked and the BB was stuffed and needed to be fixed
  12. Very true. After buying and selling a 29er etc. I am back on my old 26er and loving it. The shops are trying to their utmost to convince us that 26ers are useless - "make a windmill out of it at AfricaBurns" But they actually just fine and good for purpose.
  13. One needs to remember that a 650b is not 27,5. It is closer to a 27. It is about 1/3rd of the way between a 26er and a 29er in size.
  14. But back to the subject at hand - many of prices in the hub classifieds are ridiculous. All these guys selling 2-3 year old Anthem 29er's for 18k (post one or two Epics) when you can buy one new on special for 18k. As for all the guys who think their 5 year old 26er are worth 15k or more??
  15. Maybe your wife does ride enough each week?
  16. The review by bicycling mag last year of all the top 29er's rated the Giant above the Scott. The only bike to beat the Giant was the Pyga which costs a silly amount The scott has an issue with the back-shock unless you are getting the absolute top models. I would not buy any bike at the moment as the 2014 models are just about to be released in the next month as which stage all the 2013 bikes will be on special. With the shift to 27,5, there are going to be a lot of people trying to sell 29ers and you can pick up one cheap. I am trying to sell a Giant Anthem 29er at the moment and it is not easy.
  17. Apparently the PO has been on strike for 3 months. Waiting for a CRC order for a month now. Can't they even put out a warning of this? E.g. Don't post anything, there is no one behind this front office.
  18. Ordered from CRC four weeks ago and not a sniff of anything. I did though go for the cheap shipping option. Was anyone else aware that the SA Post Office staff have apparently been on strike for 3 months?? Hence the log-jam. Just a word of warning to all, don't choose the cheap shipping option.
  19. None of those. Got a Koobi PRS. http://www.koobi.com/koobisaddles.aspx The upper is top grade leather built by Sella Italia, the undercarriage is a modern version of the tennis-ball suspension concept. I have tried many, many saddles but this is by far the best. It removes 90% of buss or noise. Comfort wise, it feels firm, not squishy, but the comfort is great. Your *** feels like you have been riding soft-tail compared to a super rigid hard tail.
  20. It is one of my pet gripes as well. Not just bikes but a lot of other components such as saddles or stems or handlebars. Bought a new bike at the LBS, saddle is uncomfortable as hell, they recommend a different Specialized XYZ saddle, "these really work for some guys". Fork out another R1400 for the aftermarket saddle. As uncomfortable as hell. Can't take it back after two rides. Same with handlebars and these 29ers. The Giants came with flat bars, uncomfie (and so say heaps of folks on the web), LBS recommends new carbon bar with slight bend for R1400. But you can't test it. If it doesn't improve matters you stuck with it. One can't just keep on forking out sets of R1400 until you find a set up that works.
  21. Dropping the saddle by 1cm will help. Putting a wedge in your shoe under the insole will help. About 1 inch wide, 3-4mm of paper wrapped in masking tape and taped into you shoe going down the outer edge. 3-4mm on the outside, taypering towards to inside. It lifts the outside of your right foot slightly and just takes the strain off your ITB.
  22. Also consider the American Classics if you heavier that 80kgs. Apparently the ZTR Crests are only for skinny ous
  23. I saw that leopard (or one of very much the same size) in Jonkershoek two years ago. Riding by myself after work on a week day. Right up near the top at the waterfall above the 2nd contour. Came around a corner and it was just sitting there. So I stopped but by the time I stopped I was 2-3 meters away. First thing that goes through your mind is "Cool !, a leapard". Once you stopped, it suddenly strikes you "juss that is a big leapard hey?" and then "Sh.t, if this thing attacks, ..." Thankfully it just moved off down the hill through the fynbos but it was awesome to see.
  24. I am 1,76 on a medium Anthem 29er and find it a little tight with a 100mm stem. But I did try the large and it is HUGE. Feels like a land-yacht. More than one review has mentioned that they actually need another size between medium and large on the Anthem 29er. Google the topic and you will find numerous discussions by folks between 1,75-185 trying to figure out which anthem they should be on.
