(a charge that would carry a jail sentance) would make motorists think twice. do you really think that motorists from continental europe are that different to their SA counterparts when it come to cyclists. imo they are not , just S**T scared of the law.

at the Windmeul Wine Farm registration from 11am Cat 1 & subvets - start at 1pm , 170 kms Cat 2 - start at 1.20pm - 120 kms its basically 2 laps of a 57km circuit.

Registration is at 11am , i'm not too sure of entry fee so i don't want to commit.

the last time i rode with so many riders at Killarney was back in the 90's when Di Roberts ran the show. there use to be 3 bunches and she would call out the names that she allocated to each bunch. woe betide if you were caught in the wrong bunch. scratch +2 would go off and when they were seen going past the home straight then scratch + 1 would be off. when scratch + 2 entered the home straight scratch would be on their way. it was generally scratch +2 = funriders, scratch +1 = licensed vets,u16's and scratch = elites. she event had a lighties race from 5pm to 5.45pm

some hard racing today - i drove the lead vehicle for cat 2. breakaway on each lap that gained at least a 2 min gap. most impressive was 14 yr old Devin Shortt who built up a 2 min lead on lap 2 but then ran out of legs. the last attack almost stuck but was reeled in by Robbie Rodrigues and another rider with 10 k to go. Robbie won. same in Cat 1 , 5 k's in, 5 riders got away and maintained a minute lead till the last few k's. Willie Saayman takes the win. left before sub vets came in.

3 of our young riders were verbally abused & threatened on Sunday when they pointed out to a motorist that his whole car was protruding out into the intersection causing them to swerve out of the way. they got his reg nr and when they recounted the story i told them to report it to the SAPS. they did and the SAPS were a great help. they spoilt this okes Sunday afternoon with a visit to his house. he of course denied threatening them.

i have a word doc from an attorney who is going to approach the criminal law committee of the law society of the northern provinces to discuss ways of prosecuting cyclists who break the law. i will pm if anyone wants to read.

its about time cyclists mobilise to have the law changed. if a road user is killed due to an accident the onus is on the other party to prove innocence or guilty of a lesser offense than murder.
