  1. Hi guys I want to change my recently acquired rock show Reba 100mm to 120mm travel. I've done some YouTube clip watching and determined that I will need a new air spring shaft gizmo which is longer. (Gone are the days when you could remove a spacer I'm told). Has anybody done this lately and if so can you confirm that the spacer approach no longer works and also where did you get the spring shaft. Is Cape cycle the best source of rock shox parts? Thanks Kevin
  2. Truly a beauty DJR, absolutely no expense spared! I have a steed of my own to share: Colnago attain Roughly 95 model (not 100% sure) Complete campag veloce groupo Carbon upgrades all over (Easton bar, seatpost and forks) Italian matching wheels Fizik saddle Medium size (52 cm square geometry, similar to modern medium but I stand to be corrected) Everything modern Italian except classic steel frame with chrome lugs and hand signature from the man himself (a few minor nicks but 100% origonal). I got this from a guy with too many bikes and enjoyed it for about a year but have now got a bianchi Oltre which I ride. Being a race snake I ride my new bianchi exclusively and am selling the Colnago with a sore heart to gather up some money. Asking R9 800.00 Kevin 083 564 2384 Melville jhb
  3. Hi guy. I'm from JHB and My current trails comprise: -Van Gaalens -Heia Safari -Avianto I was hoping guys that ride these areas would take the time to post what other gems you have found anywhere from the cradle area, muldersdrift, krugersdorp to Hartebeespoort so that guys riding outta JHB can explore something new. As a starting point what happened to Kings Kloof is there anything like that still running?
  4. I know which section your talking about, I really hate those too.. Where you riding a hard tail? I recently got a soft tail (previous shard 26') and I can at least survive those now, I used to loose all speed and get shaken like I was riding a bull! Kudos to anyone that finished tho man, its a seriously tough race!
  5. I rode 2013 when i was very unfit and died, this time I way fitter but the route was much tougher (I thought). I knocked 1:30 of my time but I rode through the finish line with one leg cleated in and the other in full cramp which has never happened to me.. My body was saying stop for FFS! Still a really awesome race that I always use as my benchmark and will definitely train even harder for next year!
  6. It's good that you're feeling it now (as opposed to just thinking you're unfit). First step in becoming a true ninja! Well done on the time that's blitzing!
  7. Definitelly sounds like over training to me. Try slow down the time trials to work for a week or two and make sure you're getting enough calories (eat a few avos) and sleeping enough too. You'll probably come out the other side like a raging bull! Check out the concept of polarised training if you're not familiar, basically 80% of your training must be done at a painfully light exertion rate and 20% at full taps to make sure you recover sufficiently. On a side note I had a similar experience once that turned out to be salt deficiency, I had a few electrolytes and came right quickly. Could be that too.
  8. I say a good balance would be 2/3 road training (for fitness and speed) and 1/3 MTB (for the fun and skill aspect). Also dont leave out the intervals during the week. But long road rides at sub-lactate threshhold level are very valuable. I can actually feel myself slowing down if I don't get on the road bike for too long, leg strength and power is just replaced with weak high cadence cowboy styles
  9. can anyone tell me where who did the photos, jetline? Don't mean to be mr negeative here but I found the route to be pretty unimpressive The trails were boring and polluted and I'm not really a fan of riding along the highway on a saturday morning. That said the huuuge turnouts, helicopters and the stars that attend definitelly give te event a feel of importance. The event is also very well organised. Just the down and dirty route wasn't that amazing.
  10. Very interesting. It's counter intuative to go to gym and spend 2 hrs at a low HR for the 80% part of your regime but the evidence clearly points in that direction. To the laymen (me...) what heart rate should I be staying below during the base 80% part of
  11. Try bikefit (www.bikefit.co.za) in rivonia (Mark Williams and his crew). Mark was the coach of team barloworld and konica minolta ladies teams. He's really good. +- R680 a month and its a serious service where you ride in the studio with your bike twice a week on ergo trainers. Ive been there for almost a yr and I've gone from 80th percentile to comfortably below 20th percentile now. his methods really work. PM me if you want any more info.
  12. Entry organised! Yay, thanks gcaquisto! How tough is this race compared with the curro hazeldeen one a few months back?
  13. Hi If anybody has a ticket for the marathon let me know please (083 564 2384). Seem they are sold out! Thanks Kevin
  14. R25 breakfast and its top quality! You can park your cat there as well. Its on main rd, very close to the kyalami castle entrance road.
