  1. Have I damaged the battery pack or just fried the charger?
  2. Typical - never use technology in a rush @ night!!! Can I use a generic charger with the same output? Or must I get a Blackburn one? Thanks OneTime for the help!!!
  3. Oh crap!!! NO!! Just checked the charger and it's 120V!!!!!!! Now what? Have I buggerred the charger up?
  4. So this is the situation. I bought a new Blackburn X4 light online from the US and it arrived today. Very eager to get it working (despite the summer weather) I plugged it in to charge and besides a red flicker for 0.5sec - nothing!!! The charger got warm and gave off a strange smell, but no constant red light to indicate charging. So, can anyone advise what to do. Is it: Normal for there to be no red light while charging? The charger that's faulty? If it is the charger, can I get a generic one to replace it or do I need to try and find another Blackburn one? Please help.... Thanks
  5. thanks guys for all the input. i agree with the riding solo thing. i did a duathlon 2 weekends ago - thought i was ok on the bike - but got wipped in the race....my legs just did not keep up with the rest of them...so riding with others was a huge wake up call. only problem is to find a bunch that is a bit stronger than me...most of them are very fast and i'd end up riding solo anyway! i'm actually a runner so the cycling thing is pretty new...and i'm discovering that i'm using way different muscles! my hams are strong but my quads weak....time on the bike.......
  6. Just thought I'd share what a positive experience I had with these guys. I bought some items off their website, and although their shipping wasn't the cheapest (sent via FedEx) it arrives within 7 days (from the US - that's fast). Plus, after I had paid I noticed that they were offering a further discount on some of the items I bought - which I didn't know about. I emailed them and the next day, they had refunded my credit card with the discount. Really a fantastic experience!!!
  7. Thanks BnG - very concise! Think I'll give it a go myself!! WOW!!! The Hub is a wonderfull place!!!!
  8. So, I've managed to get a good deal on a new Rock Shox Tora fork. The question is ... can I install it myself (not having a clue how to) or do I need a professional bike mechanic to do it? I'd like to give it a go myself to learn something new but I'm afraid I make a hash of it and ruin the fork. How simple/complicated is it to install? What tools do I need, etc? Thanks for any advice...
  9. Anyone got any suggestions on supplements/immune boosters that actually work? I'm embarking on a training programme and can't afford to get sick every second week coz my immune system is run down... Thanks in advance for the advice
  10. Hi guys, thanks I've figured it out. Seems you have to make sure that the watch SHOWS a connection to the infrared port to ensure that the transfer takes place. Thanks for all the help
  11. Yup tried all of them. Doesn't seem to be a problem with the ports or the infrared device as I can send the data to the PC but not from the PC to the watch. Damn frustrating.... Going to try phone Polar South Africa and see if someone there can help me... Thanks for all the advice so far
  12. Hi there is only 1 user defined. If I send data from the watch via the infrared to the PC it lands in the correct folder in the Polar directory but doesn't appear anywhere in the software. When I try and connect to the watch via the software the process just hangs... nothing happens - just says 'connecting' and then nothing? Is there perhaps a setting on the watch itself that need to enable?
  13. Hi Guys, Can anyone help me with the Polar software? I've got a s725x that I'm trying to upload data from into the software. Through the IRda USB thingy, I'm able to send data from the watch to the software which lands in the harddrive in the Polar folder but doesn't appear in the calender, but I can't seem to retrieve the data from the watch via the software. (ie the software can't connect to the watch). Hope this makes sense and someone can help me. Thanks in advance
  14. Might be a stupid question but humour me... How do you know when it's time to change your chain (road)? Are their any telltale signs? Done about 2000km on my current chain - should I look at replacing it?
  15. Well, no refund for the BB . Not surprising I guess. Got a long-winded story about what a good deal got, etc. Anyone know of a thread of blacklisted sellers, so that I can warn other Hubbers? Can only find the one of recommended sellers/buyers.
  16. Hey OneTime - was just kidding.... I know it wasn't malicious.... Just hope no-one else has a bad experience with this guy...
  17. OK, so it's official - I have been shafted!!! I took the replacement BB to the mechanic and he's confirmed that it's not much better than the previous one. In the interests of other Hubbers (and to avoid the wrath of OneTime) the Hubber I dealt with is 'Hill Climber'. I've asked for a refund for the BB and would've asked for a refund for the crank as well if it wasn't on my bike already and I didn't have to pay again to have a new crank installed! Whether I get a refund or not - only time will tell! Such a pity to have a bad experience spoil the otherwise fantastic forum that is the Hub. Guess I'll have to be more careful in future!!
  18. What about Admin setting up a Poll for Buyers and one for Sellers. Something that you can add to and where you can vote for the buyer or seller you've dealt with. It's not ideal but at least a Hubber looking to buy can view the poll and see if the seller is listed and how many votes he has. Simple solution for now until there's a rating system in place...
  19. I'm all for the second hand market and think the Hub is a fantastic forum to find really good bargains. That being said, a rating system would be great. I've bought a number of items off eBay over the years and their feedback system is fantastic. Before you buy, you can check the sellers feedback and rating and make an informed decision about your purchase. In my recent purchase, I'd be able to leave feedback and comment on my transaction which would affect the sellers future feedback and dealings on the Hub. If you're serious about doing business on the hub, you'll value your rating and ensure that your feedback, service and products are all inline. Then this sort of thing with products described as 'new' won't happen. And if it does, at least there'll be some sort of recourse with negative feedback.
  20. Just bought a crank & BB from a Hubber that he claimed was 'new'. When I received the crank there were scratches and scrapes all over it. After I got the bike back from the mechanic who fitted it, he told me that that the BB had been overhauled 'at home', the bearings were extremely rough and that I should consider changing it as soon as possible. Definitely not 'new'! When I asked the Hubber about it, he said he mjust have sent me the wrong BB and would send another one. I've just received it and it looks worse than the previous one! I need to take my bike back to the mechanic to see if it's even worth fitting!!! I wonder how far admin is with setting up the rating system... Anyway, my rant for the day!
