  1. Avid as good as Shimano ?
  2. I bought my wife a Scott MTB with Deore LX gears and Avid discs. On a downhill she pulled the brakes and it locked up. I had to release some of the fluid to get her home - Mistake. It took quite a long time to reblead the brakes and even now the pads are still rubbing against the ring. SO- Avid good or Avid c@#$% ?
  3. By the way- This white line crossing similar to Boonen's goes unpunished in SA cycling as well I hear
  4. My wife demanded to know why I was sitting with such a big grin on my mug
  5. Are you living in the same Continent as we are ? He is not even close to thirty yet and have you ever seen anybody as enthusiastic about the game and as willing to put their body( and neck) on the line? I agree he is like a young Great Dane puppy who does not know what to do with all his power and energy, but this guy along with Spies, Brussow, Kankowski and Smith has no equal as far as loose forwards go in world rugby at present.! Besides he hardly touched the oke's eyes
  6. The horizontal little bar at the back of my f.d. has broken off?????? Has this happened to anybody else and can you just get a replacement or do you have to replace the whole deraileur?
  7. Listen to your piers' date=' MTB is king. And it's alot safer.[/quote'] I beg to differ. One suffers many many more falls in MTB than road. I tried MTB and fell 4 times in my first race and 2 in my second - none of them were my own fault On the road I have only had 1 fall in 2,5 years!!! Last year on a training ride on a MTB, I went over the handlebars and broke both hands and wore a neck brace for 3 months. Since then I have heard so many horrific MTB stories. Folks - MTB is DANGEROUS!! Stick to the road. I agree.I have been cycling for 15 years and have had 3 serious falls in that time. I decided to give the Epic a crack and started doing some serious off road. During December I fell three times and all of them could have been more serious than what they ended up. I know you are going to say my technical skills are not up to scratch- But since I have been talking to most of my serious off road buddies I have seen some serious injuries. It does depend on the difficulty of the trail that you are riding. I am currently riding the MTB on the road- REALLY SAFE !
  8. Personally I think they should start by puttingn up clear road signs at the top and bottom of the big climbs and at the entrance to the park stipulating the rules. It would be very hard for somebody in civvies to enforce any rules on other riders- You will get donnered !
  9. Is Tyler racing again i.e (Has his dope ban been lifted ?)
  10. The route was extremely technical and I had to push( and so did many other guys ) up a lot of the times, After having climbed up Montagu pass( a monster). In retrospect it probably was a good preparation,, but did me no good in terms of self confidence !
  11. I did the two day MTB race this past weekend from George, over the Montagu pass , Through a couple of farms and to Lovain guest farm. The route was extremely hard and technical and it just about made me loose my appetite for the Epic. Took me 6 hours to complete the 80 km first dayl route. Question: Is the Epic as technical and dangerous as this race was. I have to admit this was a big shock to my system ! Would like to hear your input. Thanks.
  12. Hi, I am in Mosselbaai and am looking to start a nice group ride( 3 hours plus) early mornings. Mountain bike or road Looking to start tomorrow at 05:30. We could meet at the main entrance to Diaz beach. Any takers ?
  13. The saga continues. The lbs is not able to fix and and they are not even willing to send it to Shimano because the back up service is so poor. Will Campag shifters work on an Ultegra 9 speed rear and front derailer ? I've had it with Shimano. Also my second pair of shifters in 3 years ' time.
  14. I cannot believe that they still deliver bad service in this day and age of the internet and THE HUB ! This sort of publicity is not good and any inclination I had of buying a Specialized has gone down the drain!
  15. I have a set of Ultegra Sti's and the rear shifter has seized up and does not want to move up or down. Diagnosis ?
  16. I am a member of the Land Cruiser club as well as the Hub and I have to tell you that the rules there are much more rigid than on the Hub. There is also no anonymity and you have to submit your real name to belong to the Club. I do not think it wrong to just advize somebody that they are overcharging on a certain item. I do think a lot of the critisism is aimed at people making cynical remarks when somebody is advetizing something. Some tolerance an consideration please !
  17. You guys should know Bennie is the top sales shop of a well known bicycle brand in the Northern Cape ( a f**&& huge piece of earth believe me) You don't just get those sort of figures because you deliver a bad service. Go Bennie
  18. Everybody wants to race at optimum haematocrit levels- Hence the doping. It is only natural according to my mind for somebody who is sitting with a heamatocrit level of 46% to want to up it to just within the legal limit. Some guys get it right by high intensity workouts at anaerobic levels or at high altitude training. Some guys never get there. Why not allow guys autologous blood transfusions . Everybody's haematocrit is 50%. Problem solved
  19. Is Astana using Campag at the moment ?
  20. Amazing what a rider can do for the sales of a bike brand. Cervelo seems to be the flavor of the month !
  21. Lance stopped cycling for the wrong reasons in my opinion. Sure he missed the family, but what I read between the lines at his gala dinner speach in Sandton, was that ever losing the TDF was not an option. Why would you stop doing the thing you love most while you still have the physical capablities ? It must be quite frustrating for the team leaders at Astana to think that they may all be relegated to super domestiques again, since LA has not been known for his Jens Voigt attitude !
