  1. Yeah, not that long in days, but a long time in terms of hype and to maintain for that amount of time. If this was indeed his aim he should have done it closer to the time.
  2. Sounds to me like you finally got the message and are running away with your tail between your legs? If you want to make such a strong stance then best you stick to it...plus 7 Dec is still a long way away...
  3. He is not a martyr...many drunken driver that have killed others in cars have been charged with murder so I don't actually know what you are on about...
  4. This is exactly what everyone is saying. We know the difference and that one is pre-meditated and the other not. The argument is that you KNOW what can happen if you drink and drive and by making the DECISION to follow through with that action could ultimately lead to the death of someone else, which should then be seen as the your decision to kill someone knowing that it could happen.
  5. How else do you then propose getting people to not drink and drive if there is a lesser sentence for someone killing another because they were drunk and driving?
  6. Indeed we do read and it comes across that you have some reason to defend him! To put into perspective...the cyclist killed in Kalk Bay by the SOBER bus driver who didn't flee the scene should now be charged with the same crime as someone who decided to kill someone and flee (you mentioned Involuntary manslaughter?) because he was drunk? They are 2 totally different 'crimes' and should def not be treated the same! The drunken murdering of drivers on the road doesn't only apply to cycling but cars as well. If you make the decision to drink, get drunk, drive, and ultimately kill someone then you should be charged with murder, plain and simple!
  7. And what emotional state is the family left with? Their loved one's life was taken away and in your view the punishment shouldn't acknowledge this (the death)? Would this then just be yet another pointless death in SA? I mean, for gods sake, he took someone else's life and now he should have the right to freely live his? I don't think so!!!
  8. I now have to baby sit Sat morning so won't be able to make it Guess my trainer and TV are going to have to do the trick.
  9. So you would prefer to have a face full of snot that a biodegradable banana peel in the bushes? Sachets are evil and always drink my gels out of a tube to keep in my pockets, but blowing snot in people's faces is completely unacceptable! If you know you have a problem then drop to the back or go off the side of the bunch to do your thing, pretty simple really.
  10. You can count me in
  11. Will be checking in to see if I appear they do look rather good!
  12. I do understand your point too, but from the one doing all the work it does get rather frustrating (and tiring) when you are pulling a little group on your own. It is a tricky one, because we all love the sport and all want our best time possible. I also think that is more evident in a small group than a large one when people don't/can't help.
  13. I had the exact same experience! Formed a little group of 5 and it was only myself and another willing to work...cyclists seriously need to learn to help or struggle along on their own. All n all a really nice race and really enjoyed the challenge mamba gave
  14. I will keep checking to stay up to date but you can count me in for the 24th
  15. Haha, this is also true. From what I've heard this is quite a fast race so may not be wise to look around too much. A def no-go if in a bunch so here's to hoping for at least some views.
  16. I would def be keen! Need someone to push me further and training buddies as opposed to group rides tend to do that better.
  17. Doing that race in Langebaan this Sat...any definite plans for the 24th as yet? Would love to join!
  18. Keen for that ride on the 24th!
  19. Can't WAIT for this ride! Stunning ride in the reserve with very little wind and a great day out!
  20. OH MY SOUL!!! That is INSANE!
  21. That would be great! He completely out rode Wiggins (except for TT) and he had to wait for him on the climbs. Should def be a thrilling 100th DTF next year, especially with the final stage being ridden at night!
  22. Official statement by The Great Ride: "It is with great regret that we have had to cancel The Great Ride Western Cape Cycle Tour. In order for an event to be successful we need riders. Unfortunately we have only received 12 paid entries. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your partnership along this journey and for expressing a valued interest in The Great Ride Western Cape Cycle Tour for 2012."
  23. If that's the case then I def think KE should sue him for losses...unless of course DG turns on him and implicates him. Going to get messy I think !
