  1. As part of the Winelands region of South Africa, the greater Stellenbosch area features an abundance of trails, one of which is the Bottelary Hills trails network. Covering a total of 76km, these trails offer scenic beauty and incredible views of the winelands, Table Mountain and False Bay, and combines a variety of different elements to form a well rounded MTB destination. The network can be accessed from 7 different starting points, all of which sell day passes and something to eat or drink, and it also happens to be a few hundred meters from my doorstep. 2. Western Province DH for 2015 kicked off in hot and dusty fashion this weekend at the Helderberg Trails, just outside Somerset West. The track had undergone a few changes in the form of an updated rock garden, a couple of loose and washed out switchbacks and a new finish line approach. The rock garden is situated right at the top of the track, giving riders very little time to settle into their run, leading to a number of ejections. Just before half way, the ever changing, loose and dusty switchbacks lead riders into the 'snake pit', from which the track stays mostly unchanged. Click here to view the article
  3. There's something truly special about riding unknown trails and new terrain. Whether you've traveled across the globe to get there, or it's a local trail that you've overlooked or not had the chance to ride yet, it's that feeling that reminds us why we do this. The uncertainty of how long this climb actually is, or what lies around the next bend, keeps you fully focused in that moment, and removed from the rest of the world. Click here to view the article
  4. It was back to Delheim, just outside Stellenbosch for the annual Dirtopia Delheim Enduro this weekend. As per usual, the race consisted of 5 fun stages, some with freshly built, loose and slippery single track. The tree tunnels and hard packed gravel/clay surfaces on stages 2 and 3 meant full aero tucks and seriously impressive speeds, naturally favouring the DH riders. With any event this time of year in the Western Cape, the relentless heat plays a role, but luckily we were blessed with a cool and cloudy day, perfect for racing. Click here to view the article
  5. A 5 month long break in racing, saw the Western Province Gravity Enduro host round 3 for the first time at the infamous Contermanskloof MTB trails. The wind-swept, barren and dry surroundings presented a different kind of beauty and the 3 special stages left the 87 riders wanting more, despite a nasty wind and soaring temperatures. The 3 timed stages totalled a distance of 6.2km with an elevation drop of 546m and an average gradient of -8.3%. Click here to view the article
  6. The Enduro scene is growing nicely here in Cape Town (and in South Africa) and it's great to see so many new faces enjoying racing and having fun. Click here to view the article
