Sounds like a plan - i am keenAnyone else keen would be good to ride with a few gents enroute grab a coffee at vida at camps bay Unless any locals want to show us around??
  9. Going out earlier will help hopefully there will be more structure and you can form some sort of a group.Unfortunately many factors are outside of your control, As long as you have done your training and prepared for the day you will be fine.Have you done a 100 km ride solo in your preparations? if so what time did you do it in? Even if you cant form a solid group for the majority of the ride jump on any group that passes, if they drop you that's fine catch the next one. With you having done the race a few time, you are familiar where along the route you many need assistance (extra power) pace yourself to those hurdles make sure you smash them there after compose yourself and carry one.

Anything else you require? want us to ride your bike for you?Its quick out the start chutes, - you have a slight climb as you start to enter the suburbs (with in first 15-20mks) - when you exist the suburbs get into a nice bunch and basically push right through to simons town (make sure you do some of the work on the front!!) - after simons town, turn and climb smits winkle (nice climb quite steep to start and then tapers), - your group will more than likely split on this hill you decide where you want to be - there after some rolling hils (nice place to fuel) your split will normally stay together up to Chappies. - Cappies - first little chappies (just a warm up) then big chappies (this is where you start to pray!) and hang onto the mountain goats at all costs. - Down other side of chappies (its fast watch the toll gates) enter hout bay - watch the cornering within hout bay - Exit hout bay and hit suikerbossies - (you normally start questioning why you actually doing this as sport is supposed to be fun) the hill is relatively short (compared to Chappies) but quite steep. Again hang onto the mountain goats as this is basically the last push - your group will split again (you MUST be in a group when you go over the top of the hill) - down the otherside of suikerbossies, personal preference but this is the best part of the race - the pace will start to dramatically lift as you enter camps bay - work with the group as there is a small climb as you pass the veda cafe at camps bay - you want to hit this with speed - enter the suburbs, watch for the SHARP left hand down to the beach road - onto the beach road and then the hammer gets dropped and it s field day to the end - have a recovery drink straight after, relax for the afternoon - Tuesday back on the bike again

Mike Bike are you going to pull the bunch at 6.38
  16. Glad to hear you ok - sounds like a gangster paradise down there. If it is a regular route for many is it not worth trying to coordinate a weekly morning ride so that everyone can ride in groups. In JHB we have the engen2engen group ride (in Bryanston). Its completely in formal, you arrive at the garage and depart at 4.45 (Tue to thurs) do predominately the same route each morning ride, riders join and leave the group along the entire route. There are major benefits, you meet people, you ride in groups, we have some elite riders with us so the pace can be insane, if a technical problem someone is bound to stop with you and you get yourself into a good routine Some mornings particularity building up to key events you are can be in a group of 50 to 70 riders (maybe even more) I am relocating to Cape town in the next few weeks and i would love to participate with a group similar to this.

Last year i can recall the best deals were from CWC - but it was mainly on bits and bobs not really helmets etc - there was an Oakley stand there, but cant comment on whether there were deals or not

my understanding is that most of the parkades only open at 6am - i have a 6.38 start - any idea where to park from just after 5am?
  19. Didn't do the race so cant talk from experience, however look at the finishing times of VA and VB there were plenty of riders all within a min of each other. Groups must have been massive

    Argus 2014

I need some assistance! We had a sound plan for a group of us to come down to the Argus this year, things have dramatically changed and fallen apart I have decided to do the trip myself, at the moment i have not yet confirmed accommodation and was wondering if any of the locals can advice me. I have family to stay with in either Durbanville or Kenilworth, how can i get to the start (Start 6.38) as i am led to believe it is chaos in the morning with the road closures - any options of a kinda 'park and ride' facility - maybe a group of guys arranging transport? Other option i find a hotel within +-10km radius of start and try get in there for the Saturday night
  21. Apologies double post, HUB just hung
  22. Perfect weather for racing, BL - first climb was a nice reasonable pace. Next climb seriously go caught napping and missed the sudden surge in pace. Second BL group was good Thanks the big guy in the midvaal kit - pulled me through the cross winds. Cradle was interesting, to all the shorter distance guys trying to catch a free ride, you did nothing more than to disrupt the group and then get spat out the back 200 m later - why? just stay clear! Todburg hall climb was were i called it a day (and i saw black stars!!) slowed right down (mainly to try stay on the bike) Not to chuffed with time of 3.08 put was a good church session just praying for the end to come Why do we do this to ourselves
