  1. I also were bonking the last 30 minutes it was such an effort to stay behind another guys slip stream going at 20km/h I guess.

    Argus 2014

I think they sometimes have to adjust the winners time to get the best approximation of everyone's index for a race. They updated the 99er winning time also from 2h30 to 2h26. Example: Say the quality of the field is not that good and someone who normally gets a 10 index for the Argus gets a index of 5 for that race for a given beta of 1. So this guy finished in 2h37:30 and would have gotten an index of 5 if the beta is 1. If they change the beta to 0.5 then it will result in the cyclist ending up with a index of 10 for that race. But this will be totally unfair to the rest of the people with slower times than him. So if you adjust the winning time to 2h26 then this guy allready have a index of 7.8 for that race. Then you don't have to adjust the beta that much to get the best approximation for everyone's performance. In this example, if you assign a beta of 0.78 to the race, the rider will end up with a index of 10 for that race.

And they might have cut the group sizes of the racing groups which I would call a bump if that's the reason you are not in it anymore.
  4. I don't see how strava classify the slight uphill from the turn-off to Pniel to the start of the helshoogte ascend as a cat 3 climb. its 5.2km with an avg incline of 3%, the fast guys do that segment with a avg speed of 30+km/h. Myself (an average rider) averaging 24-25km/h on it. The race starts about about a third of the way into this segment. Don't see people really dropping on this segment. The actual Ascend of Helshoogte (and where I think some people will be dropped) is the 1.9km segment (Cat 4) with an avg incline of 6% and the fast guys do this in 5 minutes. I aim to do it in like 7min

If you break away from B then you will probably catch A / VB / VA / % as all of them start one minute earlier than B lol. Are you then going to attempt another break-away?

    Argus 2014

Impressive, but there is a 3,03 and a 2h59 on racetec for the L group of 2013.

This is very nice stats. But there is always a few outliers. There is one sub 3h finisher in the L group of last year!

If Group T is anything like last year's group and conditions the same then you should be looking at 3h35 to 3h55 50th out of 700 came in at 3h30 200th - 3h40 300th - 3h45 400th - 3h50 500th - 3h55 You can search for last years argus event here and have a look for yourself (Option 4) http://racetec.co.za/profile/my-events/

Some races might have a too high beta and the people who did those races might be slower than you but end up starting in a better group just because you did not do that specific race. So if everyone did all the races, then only will it be "fair". I think I recall that the PPA One Tonner got a great beta while Die Burger beta was not that great even though it was windy.Tour de PPA and Bouckaert(123km) also got pretty low beta's. I know they use a mathematical approach to determine the beta but its not perfect.

This is not entirely correct but seems to be close for the lower groups, my Index is 26.36 and I am in H and someone with a 23.5 seeding is in G. The Index'es of the Argus group is not the same as the index'es of the PPA groups.
  11. Is the route now 90km like DMC007 profile says or 101km like this thread OP states or 108km like the tour de stellenbosch website says?
  12. I actually dont even take any gu/energy bars. I just put enough glucose/maltodextrin in my rehidrate mix. The littering also grieves me.
  13. I was in Group E and there were some strong riders working in fornt (Someone helping us?). We caught group D after 70km and then we were also quite a big bunch. I only saw one guy going down on the gravel. Very happy with the results. We had 40 sub 3hour results from E. Good job.
  14. Hi Malpiet You can check the route and profile out here: http://www.99er.co.za/images/route/99er.png
  15. Ok I went to get my I Looking forward starting in a stronger bunch!
  16. Thanks for the feedback. It is just strange. So Die Burger is also counting 100% for your seeding. According to PPA it can only count 50%. http://www.pedalpower.org.za/index.php/results-seeding/seeding/how-we-calculate-your-seeding/ You need more than one result to make up your total seeding. Generally all rides that count will count 1/3 of your total seeding. In other words, the average of your best 3 results will be used. The exceptions to this are events which have intermediate checkpoints along the way. Currently those are the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour, Die Burger Cycle Tour and the Ninety Niner which will each count 50% (half your total seeding, provided they were one of your best two results).
  17. Hi Have anyone else noticed that the PPA seedings changed? I think they have a bug. Before the Tour de PPA I only had race results for Die Burger 2013. I was eligible for group N for Tour de PPA. I had a 20% penalty added to my Burger Index as I only had one event. Now that penalty is gone and I am eligible for group I according to the website. But they havn't done a seeding run since Tour de PPA. Any thoughts? I don't want to go to PPA for a reseeding and take advantage of a bug.
  18. Ok thanks Skubarra and skistar. I have Burger 2013 and Tour de PPA 2014 results now on Racetec so hopefully they use them
  19. Does anyone know how the seeding will work for the 99km Road Race?
  20. Thanks, had a suspicion that the wind must have been hectic given the times.
  21. Looking at last years results, the times looks longer than than Argus times and it was 106km. A mid pack group G rider finished in 3h40.
  22. Starting in N - Hoping for a sub 4h ride...
  23. It was a nice tough ride See you guys next year!
  24. How does coconut oil feel on the stomach. Ive added like 50ml of mct oil previously in my fat shakes and my stomach felt quite uncomfortable afterwards.
  25. Hey Berry. Will you be doing a ride tomorrow morning? Keen for a ride before I head of to the East Coast.
