  1. Agree with you. The vehicle entrances crossing into the road just before the finish of the cycle race is also a big balls up waiting to happen. We had a few issues trying to pass the cars following the ladies race as well. But don't stress too much about this year, there's large roadworks due to start soon around Harties which includes widening of the bridge we went over, so let's wait and see what next year brings. I'll possibly rather go to Shova again.
  3. It's one of the best places to ride, so much fun... Just be cautious first time around when you don't know the corners. It is really only that first twisty downhill that has the blind corners
  4. Just a note to all the first timers; first do a cautious lap to check out the descents as the road was not designed for high speeds like we're used to riding outside the reserve. (Especially at +-15km into the big lap). My friend nearly lost his life there smashing into the barriers a few weeks back and the although the authorities were very helpful there is no quick way in and out for medical assistance. Go have fun, it's probably one of the best places to ride your bike in Gauteng
  5. Exactly what I was thinking, solo tactics will be influenced a lot. Nevertheless we'll make the best of it and enjoy the racing. See you guys there.
  6. All planned race dynamics for the solo guys out the door then but I guess there's some positives and negatives to draw from this... Hoping they'll manage the logistics i.t.o KOM points etc. Generally more user friendly at the Jock than what we've experienced at TOGH. Out of curiosity, how does your TT work? Team format as per TOGH or individual? Haven't seen any details on this. Enjoy the last bit of training, I rate TOGH tougher than Jock but it all depends on who rocks up on the day.
  7. You guys doing the team category?
  8. Hi Patchelicious, We are also heading down to Golden Gate this weekend, will follow this topic for some mtbing advice, if the locals can assist please. As for the road, i agree the Fouriesburg road has a wide shoulder and some nice flowing bends and steady climbs, nice and quite if you want to do a group ride. The Golden Gate route is stunning and a must do, especially the loops (Blesbok) just past the camping site and the pass (Lichens Pass) coming from the west. If you like steep climbing and switchbacks this is where you want to be, but be sure you're fitness is right up there as well. I have done this route early morning in the past, cars seem to drive rather slow within the park but i can imagine it gets risky on the section between Golden Gate and Clarens. Maybe a good idea to drive into Golden Gate and cycle from there, depending on your fitness level. Use Strava as a guide, that always works for me.
