  1. The aim: to bring 100 000 bicycle based tourists a year to the Western Cape within ten years. The implementation: Full Sus spoke to Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism in the Western Cape, Alan Winde, and while WC Government is putting the structures in place they need you to take action too. 2. Spectators were treated to a nail biting sprint finish at the Onrus Caravan Park (just outside Hermanus) on Sunday, 03 November 2013 when Team Pendale’s, Ian Franken and Andrew McPherson were seen battling it out with Team Infocus Racing’s, Owen Green and Donovan Le Cok. 3. It's kind of odd that out of all the bikes I rode at the Africa Cycle Fair, the four that stood out fit into two specific categories: full suspension trail and steel hardtails. I guess they are the two types of bikes that were most interesting to me, but they were also the ones that were the most fun out of any at the show. In so far as I could judge a bike based on a small offroad loop, here's what I thought of them. Click here to view the article
  4. I'm a huge fan of Marzocchi. They've always had that 'bolt on and forget' reliability. Not that I condone it, but I had Z1 Freerides on my old Heckler for 5 years and didn't need to service them once. I agree that it's basically all about marketing and if Marzocchi could make a bigger impact in SA then all the better. The thing with the RS Pike, you know, that bladder thing? Marzocchi have been doing that with their motocross bikes for ages, and have put it into their forks now too. I'd like to see more than just them though. Like Manitou (which did have a presence at Africa Cycle Fair, see the half bike on the couch), BOS (which, based on reviews, sound fantastic) and X-Fusion (also sound great, and reasonably priced). It really just comes down to what people see being raced too. What's winning is usually taken as best. Where it's actually what people are being sponsored by. The big guns have the big bucks to put their stuff on the winning bikes. My next bike will hopefully have a Marzocchi up front, if not X-Fusion or BOS if I had my own way.
  5. Top freeride and DH riders explore the hills in Valparaiso, Chile. The hills are steep, the speeds are epic, and the cojones aren't lacking. Click here to view the article
  6. Both local and international mountain biking enthusiasts will be taking on the demanding eight day Absa Cape Epic of 718km with 14 850m of climbing during next year’s event. With its unexplored landscapes, the stage locations of Robertson, Greyton and Oak Valley Wine estate await the most prestigious mountain bike stage race in the world, before riders again finish at the Lourensford Wine Estate. 7. The ABSA Cape Epic Route for 2014 was launched at two functions this week, one in Cape Town and one in Johannesburg. As always the route will be testing, but it is the human spirit that will prevail and this week on MTB Talk SA Brad Brown caught up with a few of the individuals that are, and will be involved in the 2014 edition of the race. 8. Cycling South Africa’s track cycling stars were afforded the opportunity to participate in the invitational Revolution Series, which kicked off in Manchester at the weekend. The national team is currently finalising their preparations ahead of this coming weekend’s opening round of the UCI Track World Cup series. Click here to view the article
  9. Looking back at the Ironman World Championships in Kona a week and a bit ago, South Africa really performed well as a nation at the event. James Cunnama came fourth, the highest a South African has ever placed in the race, while we had another two amateur age groupers, Kyle Buckingham and Matt Trautman, in the top 30 overall. 10. 2013 has been an amazing year for African cycling. Daryl Impey became the first African ever to wear the leader’s yellow jersey at this year’s Tour de France. Chris Froome then went on to become the first African born winner of the grand tour (And let’s be honest he is more African than he is British), and then Louis Meintjes won silver in the under 23 UCI World Championship road race. 11. http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Project-Freeride-whistler-rcmp-2013.html An interesting story about stolen bikes around Vancouver. Down south, we're not the only ones with the problem of having our beloveds taken from us.
  12. 13. Volvo has introduced its revolutionary cyclist detection system to go hand-in-hand with its pedestrian detection and auto braking systems. The system incorporates full auto braking that automatically brakes if a cyclist swerves out in front of the car. This should be of particular interest to South African cyclists - finally we have a car on our side! Click here to view the article
  14. Port Elizabeth resident Francois Geldenhuys produced the fastest overall time on Sunday in the Road Race which coupled with his Time Trial victory on Saturday meant that he completed a pair of victories in his age category on a gloomy day in Noodsberg at the 2013 Msunduzi Road Challenge.
