  1. Interesting video on the biomechanical effects of shorter cranks:
  2. No. It is affected. Lets do the math, and test it: The actual MA should be calculated with the radius to the outside of the tire, but I can't attach my scale to that, so just using to the end of the spoke where I can attach it. I measured 2.65kg when I tested (not using the most accurate of scales.) Now lets shorten the crank: I measured 1.65kg when I tested.
  3. You are right that changing the crank length changes to overall gearing. But the idea is when you put a shorter crank on you put bigger chain-rings on so you keep your overall gearing the same. The benefit from the shorter crank comes from smaller hip angles, not the change in gearing.
  4. I think they are great for road bikes. But for anything with a clutch derailleur they are a bad idea: The constant lengthening and shortening of the chain results in power lost to the friction in the clutch, and causes the clutch to wear faster.
  5. I see that Mount Grace climb has a peek gradient of 9.1%
  6. Well run event! With only 4 months training, it was a suffer fest for me. Very glad I took the full sus MTB! I was watching guys with Gravel bikes with narrower tires, and it looked very uncomfortable.
  7. Wish I could go that wide on my gravel bike. The widest I can do is 45 front 50 rear.
  8. Lekker bike. How wide are your tires?
  9. The route changed slightly (5km longer). I've updated the above, so you'll want to re-download if you have already downloaded.
  10. For lower price range - I'm very happy with my Sigeyi AXO.
  11. Hmm, I believe you are correct. 1.37 in
  12. I believe that Alpina is an Italian make, so it's most likely the old Italian standard: Inner diameter: 36mm Thread: 24tpi Width: 70mm Else it will be BSA standard: Inner diameter: 33.5mm Thread: 24tpi Width: 68mm Take the old BB out, measure the ID and width with vernier calipers.
  13. 10 Days to go. Plotted out the route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49577645 https://www.strava.com/routes/3319657390443857844 Still trying to decide on Gravel Bike vs Full-sus MTB... Comfort vs speed
  14. I'm entered. Last year: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.918443413617844&type=3
  15. There are roads around the cradle with cuttings like that, e.g. here, but I can't find the exact location (I tried.)
  16. Yip. That was me. Lekker to see you again.
  17. I really enjoyed my ride yesterday. I think I missed the thrill of sitting in a big group of compliant riders doing 60km/h and not having to pedal hard. Also I underestimated my fitness, so taking it easy in the fist half, meant I had lots in the tank the second half. Well done to the organizers, very well run event.
  18. Also given the downhills are in the first half, I find it easier to get a good bunch to draft with.
  19. I hate the fact that I care so much about it 😭😆
  20. Found it! I can email them with this 😁
  21. Ok, thanks, that is useful info.
  22. It was on Racetec till about 2016/2017 at which point they seem to have removed old races. http://results.racetec.co.za/results_by_person.aspx?PID=87039 Did you ride 1997 or 1998, and if so, is your result there?
  23. Unfortunately all I have is a medal. No photos.
  24. Here is a bit of a rant for me: This is my 11th 947, so I was looking forward to wearing a yellow number with pride. But alas, I was only listed as having 9 finishes, so white number for me. Looking at the portal, I can see they are missing my 1998 finish. This result was listed on racetec for a while, but it disappeared from there around 2017. Oh well, will just have to wait for next year for my yellow number.
