  1. Have a look at the Fox Flux. You should get it for under a grand on buycycle.co.za I have the 2012 model which might still be available at a slight discount. They have good "back-o-da-head' coverage and its pretty comfortable
  2. Here you go...Lab tested cheap v pricey http://www.helmets.org/testbycost.htm
  3. I think everyone is confusing 2 crucial elements here. Doing business and networking are 2 different things. Cycling and golf has its own place in business. Back in the day execs were fat guys who visited the office twice a week to make the do or die decisions (and played golf the rest of the time). The culture of business has changed. Now execs are balanced individuals that train in some way or form at least 3 times a week and are visible at the office when not chasing deals. Cycling is great for networking. People meet out on morning rides or at a congested race etc....You will meet a lot more people through cycling than golf. Golf is great for doing business. 4 execs together on the course with no-one within 50m of your detailed discussion. This is where you build that personal relationship with the banter and left field compliments. Then sign the contracts on the 19th. Cycling isn't replacing golf in business it is merely complimenting it.
  4. First and last for me. Waited just over an hour at the bottleneck was then diverted. I broke my chain going through the first tunnel and screwed up my drivetrain. Basically was trying to finish the race on a SS(ok i had 2 gears, small ring and middle ring). So i was already tired and irretable. sidewall got cut when we went under the highway and i went to my car from there. Never agian. I do think I need to build myself an SS now, it was very rewarding doing those climbs knowing I dont have granny gears to fall back on.
  5. Don't joke. That happened to me. Tyre in the face...luckily it just climbed of the rim and didn't pop. One of the petrol attendants thought the place was being robbed and could have given Usain Bolt a run for his money. Funniest sh*t ever.
  6. +1 on the gorilla tape. Did my wheels on friday. Front Bontrager X-Mud TLR and back Bontrager XR2 Team issue TLR on Alex rims XC Comp. Butchered some toobs for the valves and got the tyres seated by going to the garage. I tried seating it with my Park Tool floor pump but that seemed impossible(for me at least). Buy a big bottle of stans(you're going to use it agian) some gorilla tape and valves R300. Spend some time on YouTube. Try it out with your current setup and if it works you saved R1200. If it doesn't work get some new tyres and try again. Doing it yourself is a learning curve and it will only benefit you in the long run. The more you know about fixing your own sh*t the less randelas you end up spending at your LBS for stupid things like REPLACING TYRES. DIY
  7. Dude take it to Rietvlei. The guys at just cycles are a bunch of elitist pricks. Went there when i was looking to buy my first bike and when the guy heard me say "entry level" he suddenly showed no interest. I ended up spending my 20K at Kayalami Cycles.
  8. All online shops do that (Not the Nigerian ones of course) Online shops offer full refunds when it comes to stock availability. They will always try and punt something else first, but eventually it will be a refund.
  9. The problem is that your wife will never be comfortable on that Avalanche....Its way too small.
  10. I understand your frustration...I have CDO. Its like OCD, but in alphabetical order...The way it should be!
  11. Good day O wise Hubbers. want to start my own project and would like to know where to start. Got an old Yukon, 94'-95', that is in pristine condition. I think i want to keep the frame original and just ad SS bling to it. Will I find a gold chainring to fit the original cranks or should I upgrade that first? I think i can keep the wheels as is for now and just clean them. Any other advice will be greatly appreciated.
  12. You should have taken some of the free cable ties
  13. Thanks ill try to stay out of the way.
  14. Thanks Talus. Are there cut off times by which you have to complete the race? Sorry for all the questions but like I said this will be my virgin voyage.
  15. This is gonna be my first race. Can anyone give me an indication of what the time would be for an average rider? If I go on my times at the vlei(mix of blue and green) I should be doing it in 2h50min. Is there a time restriction in these races?
  16. Probably my fault for the sexual insinuation....was just mucking about Great thanks Gavin. Checked out the site now. Will make my booking shortly.
  17. You guys should seriously consider a career in marketing. That was very well done Can one book "threesomes", or are you not into that?
  18. I did not know that i could pay at the hut..Thanks for the info Bobbo. I now have a card and will make sure i always have one. I noticed on my way home that a few guys turned into the veld off Hennie Alberts across from the driving range(Old Meyersdal area). Do you know where that leads or have you ridden in that area? I mostly ride alone and don't normally wonder off into velds for safety reasons.
  19. Just remember that the shop is only open on Tue-Fri 8am-5pm and on Sat-Sun 8am-1pm. I made the mistake of going on a Sat at 13:30 and couldn't ride because the shop was closed and i couldn't pay for my ride. I then went there on the monday thinking i could get a card but yet again the shop was closed. I now have a 10 ride card and wont make that mistake again.
  20. Ill try Thaba next weekend. Gonna take the wife for a few laps of the yellow trail tomorrow at rietvlei.
  21. Ill try thaba next weekend Edit: autocorrect
  22. So I usually ride the green trail at rietvlei but I felt so fresh this morning that I decided it'll be blue for me. It was awesome. The jumps toward the end were so much fun the rock gardens are difficult but doable and I even had a meerkat running out in front of me for about a km around the vlei. I have one question though...who the $!@? Is Wendell and why is he taking revenge on me? I almost died going up that hill.
  23. Sure I'll keep my eyes peeled. Thanks again for the info
